#Feb1 : Deliverance, protests and anniversaries !!
And today is another Friday in Egypt which means a big day for protests and may be clashes in Cairo and in other governorates. Today protests are called the Friday of Deliverance. The demands of this Friday ranges from ousting President Morsi to bringing down the Muslim brotherhood to bringing down the constitution.
Today also is the first anniversary of the horrifying Port Said stadium massacre where 74 young men were killed in the clashes that took in the coastal city’s stadium in the infamous football game. I think you know that we are paying the implications of that game. Over 50 have been killed in Port Said the past week following the famous trial in Cairo. There will be mass protests today in Port Said from Mariam mosque.
Right after the Friday prayers which will finish soon several rallies in Cairo and Giza will head to both Tahrir square and to the Presidential Palace.
There will be also protests in Alexandria, Fayoum, Luxor, Suez, Ismailia, North Sinai, Kafr El Sheikh, El Mahla, Aswan, Qenna, El Miniya, Tanta, Sharkia, Damnhur and Al Mansoura.
I fear from violent clashes.
Today I will cover protests from the street but rather from my desk so wait for a live blogging session insh Allah. You can follow the coverage after the break.

At 2.30 AM ONTV managed to reach to his wife and to speak with her on the phone on air in one of the most bizarre calls aired on TV. The poor woman was speaking from the police hospital in Nasr City and besides her some police officer telling her what to say !!

Well amazingly the supporters of the President and Presidency especially those from the Muslim brotherhood are more than ok with what happened from stripping and beating to Hamda Saber and even support it.
Some so-called Islamist and news pages associated to Muslim brotherhood began to spread strange lies about him like he was attacking the security forces with shotgun , that he took off his cloth to run faster , that he took off his clothes in that dirty weather and did some dirty signs to the the poor soldiers !! If Hamda Saber was a MB of course , things would have been different.

As if we are having a date with all the horrifying videos in the past 24 hours. This video was published by Op Anti-Sexual Harassment documenting on camera the a group rape in Tahrir square last 25 January's night.
Several sexual assaults were recorded on that night. Sadly that morning there were less sexual harassment unlike any other day !!
I knew about what happened in Tahrir square after 5 PM last January 25,2013 but I did not have time to speak due to that on going agony marathon in the country. It is not the first time something like to happen unfortunately and it will not be the last too realistically speaking
Personally I will not lie to say that I began to be worried from going to Tahrir square alone now especially after 4 PM specifically to that area , the hell area between Tahrir square and Mohamed Mahmoud street near Hardee's.
Now for the record from two years all those who are brave enough to declare their war against sexual harassment in Tahrir square are the feminist movements and the civil independent initiatives from two years ago starting with Harass Map to Tahrir Body Guards to lately Op Anti-Sexual Harassment.
The police does not care or want to help at all.Already I do not have doubt that the Policemen do not respect much the protesters of women or even from men.
Now unfortunately the Islamists are using the incidents not to combat what happened as social disease that actually defames Egypt and its men but rather are using it to defame the Anti-MB Anti-Morsi protesters in the same way SCAF and Pro-Mubarak/Shafik/Omar Sueliman used to it to scare people from Tahrir square and its protesters.
Sadly enough most Islamists attacked the famous Blue Bra girl in public when I remember.
It is worth to mention that the so-called Islamists and MB way to combat the sexual harassment is to segregate women from men and to keep women at home.These so-called Islamists now are wondering why the media is focusing on the incident of stripping Hamda Saber and ignoring this video despite it was published by Non Islamists from Human rights activists and initiatives !! Millions of Egyptian viewers witnessed that horrifying video in Tahrir for the first time last night in Al Nahar Channel "Non Islamist Channel" in Mahmoud Saad's show.
Last night two brave girls Yasmine El Barmawy and Hania Muhib spoke in front of the camera on how they were sexually harassed and attacked in Tahrir square.Dr. Manal Omar , the famous psychiatrist believes that these sexual assaults and gang rapes are actually intended to happen in Tahrir square to defame it and scare women from coming to the square that became a symbol for protesting in the world.

Villa Casdgali : Rebuilding is more than possible if only there is ...
I wanted to blog about that hidden diamond in the rough I found out unfortunately only by accident during the Simon Bolivar clashes in 2012. Yes that hidden neglected villa caught my eyes when I went to the square after the clashes that took place there between security forces and protesters. I did not know its name then but then I found out that its name is Villa Casdgali and it has got a very interesting tale. I took bunch photos for the villa from outside on two different occasions.
It seems to be beautiful but badly neglected. It looked to me that it was being used then as a shelter for the street kids especially its main fence was broken and anyone can get inside easily.
As I was alone in both times , I could not go around the villa to see if I can get inside it. The Staircase was badly damaged as you can see.
I was planning to write about it but I could not with all the jazz taking place in Egypt since last November 2012. Last Friday the beautiful villa caught fire during the clashes that erupt from time to time for no reason between protesters and security forces. The fire was put off and parts of the villa were damaged but the villa itself was not damaged.
I did not know how the villa looked from inside and it seems that the fire was good opportunity to know more its history and its amazing interior. Thanks to Cairo Observer , we knew how much damage the 19the century villa is suffering and how beautiful it is from inside.
The little chapel is beautiful.
Little history background about Villa Casdgali
It was built late 19th century by Austrian Edward Matasek “who designed many of the 19th and early 20th centuries landmarks in Cairo” for the Levantine family called “Emanuel Casdagli” that lived in Egypt during that time. Needless to say that during then Garden City was the crème de la crème society most exclusive neighborhood with all the embassies and Royal palace there. You can read more about the history of the villa in Egy.com by Samir Rafaat.
The villa turned in to a school after the nationalization like many other villas and palaces and was named after Ali Abdel Latif of Sudan. The idea is good and bad at the same time. You educate generations but at the same you kill some time fantastic architecture landmarks like Villa Casdagli. Despite it is officially recognized as heritage site since 2006 and that United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the American Research Centre in Cairo (ARCE), developed a comprehensive restoration project for the building in 2008 , there are no restoration works at all in the sit. As you can in the photos. It is a miracle that it still exists.
It is worth to mention that in 2010 Al Abdel Latif school was relocated so the buildings now are empty.
The villa is looted and partially destroyed as you can see. There is no protection for it at all despite a state owned building officially.
Anyhow I wish and pray that Villa Casdagli turns in to some sort of Cultural center and a library in Downtown Cairo instead of turning it in to some sort of governmental institute.
In the end I will quote the amazing Cairo Observer FB Page when it said : Regarding the now burned/damaged Villa Casdagli: rebuilding is always possible, what is needed is a political will to rebuild.
I think this also applies to everything in this country too besides Villa Casdagli.

A Story of a simple Egyptian Called #Hamda
And Hamda Saber has become the most famous and controversial citizen in Egypt in the past 48 hours. The man has earned an international fame after he was filmed in the most humiliating moments of his life while he was being beaten inhumanly by CSF conscripts naked and dragged in the cold streets of Heliopolis. That clip has been shown all over the globe worldwide already
Hamda Saber turned to be a simple citizen who was not protesting in the area. He was in the area along with his family “his wife and daughter” because they were doing some shopping for their daughter Randa who is engaged and was supposedly getting married. It seems that the family was curious to see what was happening when the clashes started and everybody was running. When the CSF units started to push back against the protesters in the streets of Heliopolis people began to run everywhere.
To make it easier here is a a simple timeline using video clips from TV shows since the start of Hamda’s agony and tale.
Radio Misr , a popular state owned radio station got a call from concerned citizen claiming that he saw Hamda taking off his cloth from the 8th floor before arrested by the security forces !!
Well we saw Hamda live on TV and we got eye witnesses including my friends who saw him being stripped by the police.
Then in the afternoon Hamda appeared on National TV defending the MOI and claiming that the CSF conscripts who were dragging and beating him on TV were actually saving him from the protesters who attacked him and stripped him from his clothes !!!!!!!!!!!! He thanked the ministry of interior and kept smiling amazingly on Camera.
Amazingly he repeated these statements that one believed at all on Al Hayat TV.
After couple of hours Randa ,Hamda's daughter began to speak to the media stating that she was with her father when the CSF attacked and that the Ministry of interior was blackmailing him and them and this is why he accused the protesters on air.
What happened him is considered a huge insult to his manhood when we speak about Egyptian Eastern mentality aside from all the human rights talk. Dr. Manal Omar , the famous psychiatrist said that Hamda Saber was smiling in front of the camera in that stupid way in an attempt to escape from that horrifying humiliation , to escape from reality.
Hamda is the simple Egyptian who walks besides the wall as we say in Egypt to avoid trouble.Now he found himself the center of the universe in Egypt battling the Pharaoh’s mighty soldiers in their own house with no help from the outside the world. He is the Egyptian who seeks for better living in extreme poverty. He is the true reason why the 25 January revolution took place.
Hamda Saber does not understand human rights because he is from that class in Egypt that got no rights and he is ok with that.He does not understand or know that he should not support Mubarak's regime because he is one of its victims .
I am not from the team that says Hamda’s case is a waste of time and the media should focus on other issues. I do not know what else the media should focus on , it is as important as other stuff.
Yes the ministry of interior got ton of disasters that should be exposed including the crimes it did in Suez cities but we should not ignore Hamda or his case.
Hamda's story got many details that are direct reflection to many of our social and political problems when you think about it.
What is scary is that there are hundreds of Hamdas being violated and tortured in Egypt yet behind closed doors

Hamda Saber appeared an unknown completely naked citizen on air while being beaten mercilessly by CSF forces. He was detained during the clashes. We do not know his name or where he was taken to for hours. His nephew and family recognized him.Saturday February 2nd 2013 Early morning.

Then comes the biggest moment in our TV tabloid history worldwide : On confrontation between Hamda and his daughter Randa on TV in Amr Adeeb's show last Saturday. Randa was speaking to Amr earlier in the show then Poor Hamda called accusing TV shows of paying to his daughter to say what she said adding that Randa was besides him at the hospital !!!!!!!!!!!!!! In front of this accusation and lies Adeeb on air phone conference between them.
Randa : You are liar ya Papa, they are forcing you to say this. I was with you.
Hamda : I will set you on fire when I return home , you are not my daughter anymore.You were not with me that night.

I apologize to them and also to protesters" This is what the man said confessing at last that indeed the security forces stripped him and beat the crap out of him !!
Now again a TV history made when Hamda says on air : The equivalent of the F-Bomb in Arabic "Fuck the Money when TV Host Sherif Amer asked him about that news he got money to lie.
Can you imagine the amount of intimidation this man has been subjected to !?
Now Islamists found out that Hamda Saber used to go to Mubarak's trial and is from the so-called Mubarak children. Already I do not know what the big deal is in this matter. They want to justify the attack by all measures without realizing that they are becoming like Mubarak regime members when they used to justify the crimes of torturing Islamists in the past.
For me Hamda is a human who has been violated twice : When he was stripped and beaten and when he was forced to lie in the Media in this way.
Hamda Saber comes from Upper Egypt and lives in a working class. What happened to him from stripping is a huge insult. He lives in a room with his family and shares a bathroom with his neighbors in a very close complicated community that is rarely featured in the media except in crimes pages. Historical moment in wrong time !!!
And President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has become the first Iranian President to visit Cairo since the revolution in Iran from more than 30 years.
Here is the reception of the Iranian President in Cairo airport.
It is a historical moment but not the perfect one. It is not the correct image in my mind for this important meeting between the heads of those two important countries in the Middle East not to mention these are not the correct image for the "heads" of these states !!
Unlike the Muslim brotherhood and their supporters who are suddenly open to dialogue with Iran , the Salafists are somehow in shock. The Salafist call criticized the visits and even put conditions that actually constraints on the visit of the distinguish visit.
The Iranian president has met the Sheikh of Al Azhar and the grand Mufti.
You must know that Ahmadinejad is visiting Egypt as a the head of member state in OIC. In case you do not know we are having an OIC summit in Egypt.

Aside from his meeting with President Morsi , the visit of Iranian President Ahmadinejad to Al Azhar Mosque in Egypt is capturing all the attention in his important visit.
After all the leader of the main Shiite State nation in the world is visit Al Azhar Mosque , the biggest Sunni institution in the world. Again in any other time it can be great moment to celebrate it and even start a new page to bridge between the two main sects of Islam but it comes in extremely bad time.
Nevertheless the real star of the visit was not Ahmadinejad but rather Ahmed El Tayyib , the grand Sheikh of Al Azhar Mosque. The Upper Egyptian Sheikh began to play a bigger political role week after week !!
Today he hoped that Iran works to stop the war in Syria , to give rights to the Sunnis and Ahwaz in Iran and not to spread the Shiism in the Arab world plus to respect Bahrain and Gulf’s sovereignty and to make the Shiites stop their verbal attack against Prophet Mohamed’s companions.
Of course there is no word on the rights of Shiites in Egypt !!

The government or rather the ministry of interior has been ignoring the pleas of human rights activists to release 14 years old Mahmoud Adel , a cancer patient who was arrested in Alexandria during the clashes there.
Mahmoud Adel got chemo sessions and the magistrate in the case Mohamed Abdel Waheb refuses to release the boy despite his illness.
Now some people mostly associated with Muslim brotherhood and Al Wasat party calming that Adel was already treated from cancer despite the medical reports that say otherwise and that we are making a big fuss in the media.
I do not know why people began to lose their humanity in this way for god sake !!
Human rights activists plead for his release yet there is no answer.
When confronted with the fact that there are over 100 minor arrested in the latest clashes, the minister of justice Mahmoud Makky surprised us all tonight when he said on ONTV
How would I know that there are kids arrested including the cancer patient !? How would I know !??"To our horror Mahmoud's story seems to be less tragic than the other stories we began to know regarding those kids arrested in the clashes. It is only the tip of the ice berg.

#Belaid , the first in #Tunisia , who will be next !!
Earlier this morning the leader of left Democratic patriots movement party in Tunisia , Chokri Belaid has been killed outside his house. The man was shot four times in his head and chest in front of his house , in front of his car. Here is a video filmed by his neighbours from the scene showing the ambulance and his car.
Despite no one has yet claimed responsbility, Tunisian opposition began to accuse radical Islamists especially that from seven months ago a Salafist preacher called for his assassination publicly on video.
It is also worth to mention that late Belaid himself warned in last summer from political assassinations.
This is dangerous on many levels considering that this is the first assassination Tunisia would witness since the revolution.
Some Salafists in Tunisia already are happy for his assassination and they are not hiding it.

Unlike Egypt there is no violent clashes or confrontations in Tunisia on wide scale. I think this can trigger something.Already Salafists there are much more violent than those in Egypt. People have started rallies and protests in several provinces like Sfax.
Now back in Egypt some people fear that the turn will be on our opposition leading figures considering the fact that Egypt is two steps behind Tunisia according to their point of view but others believe we are already two steps forward as the young activists and protesters especially those with anti-MB views like Mohamed El Gundy and Hossainy Abu Deif began to be eliminated in different ways.

PM Qandil and the stinky women of Bani Sawif who get raped in fields !!
Here are the controversial statements of PM Hisham Qandil causing buzz in Egypt and anger in Bani Sawif governroate. It is transcribed in to English.

I do not know what to say except I feel sorry for him because he is appointed in the position that is bigger than his own political as well social capabilities. I do not know why he did not stop at saying 'I roamed Egypt especially Upper Egypt and saw extreme poverty and ignorance that do not
Now women in Bani Sawif are extremely angry and they have. He did not only describe them as dirty ignorant women but also he claimed that they are being raped in the fields. Another huge insult not to them but to their men , Upper Egyptian men.
It is worth to mention that for thousands of years Egyptian women used to work in fields and were not subjected to sexual harassment not to mention rapes !!
Hisham Qandil has not apologized for his statements.

#Tunisia : Protests , strikes and testimonies
First all I will start with this video from Nawaat. An interview with Nadia Dawood who is the eye witness of Chokri Belaid's assassination. Nadia Dawood , who is a journalist , is the neighbour of Mr. Belaid. She was in her balcony when the tragic murder happened. She lives in the fourth floor and she was the one who took that snap shot showing the ambulance in the crime scene.

From what I understood she is accusing both Belaid's driver and the building's guard of having some shady role in his assassination.Interestingly I read news reports claiming that the preliminary autopsy reports say that the gunshot calibers used in his murder are only used by the police force in Tunisia !!!!
You must know Islamists in Tunisia believe that this testimony enforces the theory that Belaid was killed by his own team , the opposition. Seconds Tunisia is on fire for real. For the second day in rows protests continue in Tunis , the capital and several other cities including Gafsa.
The general Trade Union in Tunisia declared that tomorrow will be a general strike day all over the country. Friday is not a holiday like in Egypt. It is an escalation.
Now as police is police everywhere videos began to emerge from Tunisia showing on how the anti-riots forces in Tunisia disperse protesters and attack them in a brutal way yesterday day.
Of course they have not reached to the level of their Egyptian counterpart. Lucky for the Tunisians I guess.
Tomorrow will be tough day.

#Tanta : The latest protesting city in #Egypt
It started like any other Friday in Egypt , protests all over the country ended with violent clashes between the protesters and security forces. It is like routine, even the clashes at the presidential Palace in Heliopolis have become a usual thing with all that strange news of protesters who dare and decided to storm the fortress palace.
Still now every Friday there is a hot zone when it comes to protesting in the governorates , it is no longer Tahrir or Cairo as it seems the new wave , that new stage in the revolution began to expand in a way or another. Yesterday , on Friday Gharbia governorate was the Protesting governorate of the week.
Huge clashes following massive protests in Tanta governorate erupted between protesters and security forces in Tanta city , Mahalla and Kafr El Zayat. The unrests in the governorate especially in the city of Tanta. I believe we should have expected as these protests take place after the death and funeral of late Popular current and constitution party activist Mohamed El Gundy. Mohamed El Gundy was from Tanta’s activists. He was reportedly missing last January 28,2013. He was found then after couple of days by coincidence in Helal Hospital. According to those who saw in the hospital, El Gundy had traces of torture over his body and his neck. The activists believe that after a verbal fight with security officer, El Gundy was abducted to a CSF camp where he was tortured till coma. That CSF camp is called “El Gabl El Ahmr” which means “The red camp” and we hearing horrifying stories from there in the past week.
Reuters reported that two security sources confirmed that El Gundy was tortured there before he was transferred to El Helal Hospital.After his death , Helal Hospital claimed that he was hit by a car and fell in to coma. This claim was spread by MB members and supporters accusing political powers and parties of using El Gundy’s death for their own political interests.
Following the spread of new reports by the MB supported, the official forensic authority revealed that it has not officially the final autopsy report about Mohamed. El Gundy’s parents believe that torture was the cause of death.
Mohamed El Gundy was from the lemon party that voted for Mohamed Morsi so Shafik would not win and we will have back the Mubarak regime.Here is Mohamed’s twitter account. It is heart breaking.
Just as Khaled Said became the icon of Alexandria , Mohamed El Gundy with his smiling face has become the icon of Tanta. Since his funeral last week in the city and the protests have not stopped by angry youth.
It is worth to mention that both Mahalla and Kafr el Zayat are from the biggest industrial cities in Egypt with long history of labor movement. The protesters are regular there but to be honest it is the first time I hear that there have been clashes and protests in Kafr El Zayat from long time unlike the revolting Mahalla.

Amazingly once again the TV cameras catch Police forces red handed using gunshots against the protesters faraway from the security directorates according to Tanta locals who saw the video.
The security forces claim that it was defending the Security directorate from angry protesters that hurled Molotov cocktails against the building.
Police forces wear beige in the governorates outside Cairo. It is clearly that the police forces were standing besides armed men wearing civilian clothes. We do not need to guess who these people are.
Now question : why do not the security forces use water pipes in those cold days instead of shot guns like that !?
Anyhow it seems that Tanta will join Port Said and Alexandria soon when it comes to action.

Another Bad Day for Media in #Egypt : #YouTube , Offensive cartoon and TV hosts to investigation
Who could ever think for one second that media in Egypt will suffer like this after the revolution !? Well I admit I did not think even for one moment.
First we got the administrative court ruling to ban YouTube in Egypt for a whole month .

It is worth to mention that Google had already blocked the clip in both Egypt and Libya following the violent clashes that took place right after the release of that 13 minutes clip. The administrative court judge's reasoning is that this one month ban decision was taken after the refusal of YouTube to remove the film totally from its servers.
The administrative court judge does not understand that by banning the website in Egypt , the circulation of that offensive silly video will not stop worldwide for God sake !! Why does the judge ignore the fact that there are millions of videos defending Prophet Mohamed "PBUH" and Islam against those insults on the YouTube !?
I am already wondering about why the administrative court chose this particular time since last September 2013
Again the film was promoted equally in Egypt by none other than the Islamist Channel Al Nas and yet it has not been closed yet.
It is extremely dangerous court ruling because it opens for wider online censorship.

Al Masry Al Youm has officially apologized for the daring cover of Assyasy Magazine "The Politician magazine" latest issue.
Here is the daring cover which is the product of famous revolutionary cartoonist Ahmed Nady.
The cover shows those who signed Al Azhar document to denounce violence completely naked and in their hands wine glasses and in the back Mohamed Morsi tells a strong and enormous CSF officer to act as he wants as there is no more political cover for the protesters
Many activists criticized the political activists and parties participated in the document accusing them of dumping the protesters alone facing the police violence.
This is the first time the Sheikh of Al Azhar and the Church representative are being shown naked like that.
According to Ahmed Nady , the cartoonist he got a tip that Al Masry Al Youm administration has decided to pull the issue from the market after it got an objection from the Church on how a church man would appear like that in a cartoon on cover of a magazine.
I believe this is one of the best magazine covers in Egypt from many many years ago. It broke many taboos yet unfortunately it seems that administration of Al Masry Al Youm does not want to break any taboos anymore.
Now moving to investigations and interrogations with journalists and TV hosts. TV hosts Dina Abdel Fatah and Wael Al Abrashi will be interrogate at the public prosecution office as they are accused of promoting Black Bloc culture in Egypt !! Wael Al Abrashi claimed that he spoke to Black Bloc members on Dream TV2 while Dina Abdel Fatah hosted alleged Black Bloc Members in her show on Tahrir TV. Of course the alleged and self proclaimed Black Bloc Facebook pages and twitter accounts denied that these were members in the Black Block.
To be honest I know that both of them did not host for real Black Bloc members but to be accused of promoting Black Bloc in Egypt !! For God sake what kind of charge this is !?
It is not the first time actually TV hosts and prominent figures are being dragged to investigations because of what they say on air.
From couple of weeks we found out that Alaa Abdel Fatah was summoned to the Supreme court to be interrogated for a case he knew nothing about !! At the Supreme court he found out that he is being accused of insulting judiciary !! Alaa refused the interrogation and instead he accused SCAF and Morsi of insulting the judiciary with their actions and decrees.
It is an irony considering the fact that Alaa Abdel Fatah was detained for 45 days in 2006 for protesting in solidarity with the reformists judges like Mekki brothers , El Khodiary and El Gheriany in the famous battle of judiciary independence.I can not keep noticing that Abdel Fatah is being summoned after his live TV confrontation with minister of justice Ahmed Mekki last Saturday during the Ultras trial on CBC channel's morning show.
Mekki was provoking and shocked the viewers with his what he had said then. Sometimes I believe that age is playing factor here.Now Alaa is not the only one to summoned to be investigated for the insult of judiciary. Former MP Mostafa Al Naggar was summoned to appear in front of the magistrate for the same charge : Insulting judiciary !!!
I do not know how Al Naggar can be accused of insulting judiciary considering how polite he is , in fact I do not remember that he criticized judiciary or any judge rudely. I remember that he once criticized former Public prosecutor Abdel Magid Mahmoud when he was a MP in the parliament only !!
I do not think that the current judges are angry for Mahmoud after more than 6 months !!
Now it turns out that Abdel Fatah and Al Naggar are not the only figures in Egypt accused of insulting judiciary and are being interrogated by a magistrate appointed by the ministry of justice , there is a long list of TV hosts and journalists like Mahmoud Saad , Lamis El Hadidy and Mona Shazly as well their producers. These TV hosts are accused of letting their guests insult the judges and judiciary in Egypt !!
Now a tip I got from a dear friend that the judges who reported that long list to the ministry of justice are the Muslim brotherhood's Judges for Egypt group !!!
You have to know that the number of "Insulting the president" lawsuits in time of Morsi's rule "6 months" exceeded all the lawsuits filed isnce 1892 when that stupid charged entered our legal system !!

You have to know that the number of "Insulting the president" lawsuits in time of Morsi's rule "6 months" exceeded all the lawsuits filed isnce 1892 when that stupid charged entered our legal system !!

#AlAzhar and #Mufti Elections : And we will hold our breath "Update"
Later today Al Azhar’s elderly clerics council will hold an urgent meeting to elect the grand Mufti of Egypt. Sheikh Ali Gomaa’s term will finish next March and thus a new Mufti should be elected from 25 candidates.
The good thing that the president does not appoint the Mufti anymore but the bad thing now is that the MB's official Mufti is applying for this position !!
MB Mufti Abdel Rahman El Bar is one of the candidates and to be honest I am extremely worried to have another MB member in that critical position.
El Bar claims that he was surprised by his nomination "what you know !!" yet people should not be discriminated for their political affiliation according to him"which theoretically is true"
Despite he says that he does not seek the position , he will have one hour interview on the State TV today !!!
I am totally against having El Bar as Egypt's grand Mufti because if he is elected , we will have fatwas based on the MB's conservative interpretation for Islam !! We will have fatwas upon the request of the guidance office.
Based on how the MB members and supporters act online and say regarding the candidacy of El Bar , I fear from the elections' results today.

And the Clerics elected Shawky Ibrahim as Egypt's newest Mufti. We do not know much about him expect that he is a professor of Maliki Fiqh in the faculty of Sharia and Law , Al Azhar University in Tanta. Before the elections he used to work in Oman.We do not know any thing about his political affiliation. Here is his picture.

#Vatican and #Pope ‘s resignation on #Feb11
It seems that February 11 will be marked as the day when world leaders step down !! Mubarak stepped down on February 2011 and Pope Benedict XVI announced that he will step down also on February 2013.
Benedict XVI announced today that he will step down exactly at February 28,2013. A very quick and surprising announcement, the man did not wait for two or three months but for two weeks.
When the news hit the wire , I thought it was some kind of hoax like that rumor yesterday about the Duke of Edinburgh’s death yet what you know !! Soon enough an official statement was posted in the Vatican’s official website and the man himself spoke to the World about it.
Abdication of Benedict XVI
Benedict XVI said that he can not continue in his position because he has no strength. In other words he suffers from some health issues that may affect his ability to continue as the Spiritual leader of the Catholic world. I thought the Popes continue in their position till death regardless of their health condition !! First time to know that they
The 85 years old Pontiff is considered the second Pope in 600 to resign from that extremely important position after Gregory XII.
Needless to say now the Conspiracy theories websites got nothing to speak about except the Nostradamus’ Prophecy about the Black Pope linking it to Cardinal Peter Turkson of Ghana. There is good chance that Turkson could be the first African Black Pope of Catholic Church for the first time in history. Now You got people online calling him the Antichrist already !!
This is of course the conspiracy theories on why Benedict had to step down now !!
Anyhow Cardinal Turkson’s views about considering Islam as demographic threat in Europe tells me he is not that different from Benedict XVI , after all we live in times of radicalism and extremism.

Tomorrow the women of the world will protest in solidarity with the Egyptian women in front our embassies against the sexual violence and attacks.
There will be protests in Aden , Ramallah, Yaffa, Rabat, Tunis, Beirut, Amman , Copenhagen , Brussels, Milano, New York, Washington, Ottawa , The Hague, Paris, London, Melbourne and Oslo
The global protests is coordinated by the Women Uprising in the Arab world.
There will be a protest tomorrow in Cairo at 6 PM at Talaat Harb square and I think there will be a rally from there to the Shura council to object the disgusting Shura MPs’ statements today. The Shura MPs in the human rights committee blamed the women for the sexual harassments and rape in shocking statements.

Faten Hamama , the Dame of Arab Screen speaks in French in some interview during Beirut Film Festival in 1964. She spoke about how she became an actress , about the revolution in Egypt and how she supported the revolution in Algeria.
Let’s just say my generation suddenly discovered that the lady associated in our minds with grace, seriousness and drama too was so cute and cheerful when she spoke French.
By the wa Faten Hamama was starred in an American film produced by MGM called Cairo in 1962 along with Ahmed Mazhar and George Sanders.
Ironically most of the people do not understand what she was saying in French yet that video brought the memory of ladies were real ladies.
Of course in those old days girls were not sexually attacked or assaulted in the streets.
