Esraa El-Taweel and Friends are found ..unofficially

At last after more than 16 days people know where photographer Esraa El-Taweel and her friends Sohip and Omar are..unofficially. Several eye witnesses from detainees and inmates at Tora farm prison confirmed that Sohip and Omar arrived and are currently detained by security forces there.
Now early Tuesday a friend of Esraa visiting Kanater women prison found her.

Zeinab Mohamed said on her Facebook account that she had seen her at the prison wearing the same clothes she wore when she disappeared according to her family. This means that Esraa has been only transferred on Tuesday unofficially to that prison which follows the ministry of interior.

It is worth to mention Egypt’s ministry of interior, Public Prosecution and prisons authorities deny till this moment that Esraa and her friends are detained in the first.
Needless to say despite it is still detention, many of Esraa’s friends are glad that she is found. Yeah, the ceiling is lower than we have thought in Egypt now !!
By the way, the 2014 Constitution has specific articles related to detention I hope that the government and the ministry of interior remember very well. Specifically the articles 54, 55 and 56 if I am correct especially article (54). Article (54) stipulates the following:

Personal freedom is a natural right, shall be protected and may not be infringed upon. Except for the case of being caught in "seflagrante delicto", it is not permissible to arrest, search, detain, or restrict the freedom of anyone in any way except by virtue of a reasoned judicial order that was required in the context of an investigation.
Every person whose freedom is restricted shall be immediately notified of the reasons therefore; shall be informed of his/her rights in writing; shall be immediately enabled to contact his/her relatives and lawyer; and shall be brought before the investigation authority within twenty four (24) hours as of the time of restricting his/her freedom. Investigation may not start with the person unless his/her lawyer is present.
A lawyer shall be seconded for persons who do not have one.
Necessary assistance shall be rendered to people with disability according to procedures prescribed by Law. Every person whose freedom is restricted, as well as others, shall have the right to file grievance before the court against this action. A decision shall be made on such grievance within one (1) week as of the date of action; otherwise, the person must be immediately released.
The Law shall regulate the provisions, duration, and causes of temporary detention, as well as the cases in which damages are due on the state to compensate a person for such temporary detention or for serving punishment thereafter cancelled pursuant to a final judgment reversing the judgment by virtue of which such punishment was imposed.
In all events, it is not permissible to present an accused for trial in crimes that may be punishable by imprisonment unless a lawyer is present by virtue of a power of attorney from the accused or by secondment by the court.
I believe we could have if we are not already having a huge violation of constitution here because we are speaking about forcible disappearance turned into arbitrary detention.

First of all Ramadan kareem to all the people around the globe. I wish you very happy and blessed Ramadan.
Second here is the annual post showing the latest trends in Egypt’s Ramadan Lanterns “Fanous” in 2015.

This year in Egypt , something very important has happened. In order to save the local traditional lanterns industry in Egypt, a decision was issued in last April to ban the import of imitations to Egyptian traditional products above them the lanterns.
Personally I see less plastic Chinese Ramadan lanterns than the usual this year but the Chinese Ramadan lanterns are still there because workarounds.
Already the Children’s plastic lanterns are more of games now than traditional lanterns. Any importer can claim that those Chinese Plastic lanterns are toys and get away from that ban order.
I did not find the Sisi on a car lantern but I found Dora, the explorer this year.

DSC08987

For adults, the Chinese exporters presented this year a collection of wrought-iron or as we call it in Egypt in French “Fer Forge" lanterns. Designed in Moorish way, they look elegant  with the stained glass. Nevertheless, they do not look like Ramadan lanterns but rather elegant lanterns for your home or your garden all year long.

DSC08993
This year is the latest fashion in Egyptian traditional lanterns are the Wooden lanterns and Khayameya lanterns.
DSC08981
The wooden lanterns are more beautiful than the khayameya cloth lanterns which got very strange shapes like tanks and canons!!
DSC08931
Needless to say someone in the Egyptian Lifestyle blogs “yes we have them” should speak about that craze to use Khayameya patterns in Ramadan lately. It was cool at first but now it became boring and too commercialized.
The original tainted glass tin lanterns , the original lanterns are still there.
Here is the complete photo gallery of Ramadan lanterns this year after the break.
On the eve of Ramadan, I would like to pray that all those detainees held in jails unjustly because of unconstitutional decisions and laws in Egypt will be released to spend this blessed month with their families. I pray for a true miracle to pull this country, this nation from that uncertain future awaiting it and its people in ever-changing region.
I pray for the people in Syria , Yemen, Iraq , Burma , China , Nigeria , Somalia and Libya not mention of course in Palestine.
And here is it the official anthem of Ramadan in Egypt by legendary folk singer Mohamed Abdel Motlab.

#Ramadan Arabian Nights #2015 : The Cursed Lady’s Wall “Ep.1”

It is Ramadan Smile
and it is Egyptian Chronicles’ annual time for Egypt’s Old Radio Arabian nights once again.
This year Scheherazade will tell us the tale of the Cursed Lady’s Wall which is a very interesting and amusing tale or rather a tale inside a tale as usual.
Aired in the 1960s I believe, this tale started in the 493th episode of the One Thousand and One Nights Radio show on the Egyptian main state radio channel. Yeah, that show had more than 400 episodes. They do not do this anymore in radio or in TV in Egypt.
Now a quick reminder: The One Thousand and One Nights radio show was created and produced by the Radio Legend Mohamed Mahmoud Shaaban aka Papa Sharo. The stories of the show were inspired by the original Nights book and they were written by Taher Abu Fasha. The show was narrated by a number of famous Egyptian actors. Of course, Scheherazade was narrated by legendary Egyptian actress Zozo Nabil.
Now enough talk and let’s go to our tale.

This year Scheherazade attracts her king’s attention by telling a short uncompleted tale that actually would start in another tale. At first she started telling about how Sheikh Mansour lived and died before his original time to die would come because of that magical box with golden lock found in the city of Al-Gor of the magnificent city of temples, gardens and palaces.

Nevertheless, the story of Sheikh Mansour starts in another city, far faraway in another tale.
Our story teller than moves to China where our original story starts.

In one of China’s provinces, there is that very big and extremely old city. The oldest thing in that city was a very old wall surrounding a very old house which had become ruins through times. The house an the wall are owned by a very old lady who nobody in the city know anything about except that she is too old. The people of the city came to life and found her with no family or relative here and there living in solitude.

It is not a surprise then to find the people in the city calling that old lady as the Cursed one nor it is a surprise to hear myths and stories about how her house and her wall haunted by ghosts and demons.
One day an earthquake hit the city and the unexpected happened that old cursed lady’s wall was broken down.

The people did not care for other buildings in the city, they all cared and spoke about that ancient wall that became officially ruins. They spoke about it more and even decided to break the taboo and go to investigate it especially rumors spread that pieces of Gold were found in the broken wall. As the frenzy spread in the city, Vizier Nooman decided to send troops to stop the chaos at the wall.

Surprisingly as he was telling the Sultan about the frenzy about the gold and how some people believed that there were treasures buried under the wall , the Sultan decided to mob outside the wall from his subjects too searching for the treasures of the cursed lady too !!!

By the way this year a new Arabian Nights TV show is produced with all the bells and whistles of the CG animations in the world.

I believe the TV show won’t be a hit because simply it is not based on the original Arabian nights books or even the tales of Taher Abu Fasha.

After 16 days of her forcible disappearance , Esraa El-Taweel suddenly surfaced at the State Security Prosecution last Wednesday where it turned out that she was being interrogated for the second timeHalim Hanish spotted Esraa El-Taweel at the State security prosecution on Wednesday and informed her family. He knew that it was the second time that she was interrogated twice and that she was detained at Al-Qanatar women Prison.

Earlier this year
since her disappearance. Human rights lawyer
Wednesday’s evening or rather in the early hours of Thursday a police force headed to Esraa’s house where they confiscated 5 laptops from her home. According to her mother and sisters, they were mistreated as expected by the officers rudely. They made her sister Doaa El-Taweel sign a statement that she would come to get the laptops and attend the interrogation with Esraa next day.
On Thursday, the State security prosecution decided to adjourn the interrogation of Esraa till next 28 June !!
On the same day, Al-Shorouk published a report about Esraa where an unnamed informed source n judiciary claimed that her arrest and detention were legal and did not violate any laws or Constitution articles “!!”
The source added that Esraa is accused of belonging to a banned group “The Muslim Brotherhood” and spreading false information and news about the injustice of the Egyptian judiciary as well photos showing the unjustified violence of security forces against the protesters on the social media and to foreign entities “!!!!”
Those charges are ... seriously I can not find anything to say.
Of course, this is considered an unofficial statement.
There is nothing published in the media about Sohip and Omar or the charges they are facing or anything.

And our tale continues with the Cursed Lady’s wall which was brought down by the earthquake in the first episode. I won’t speak a lot because I am already late in posting this episode.
You can listen to it here.

The King and his vizier went with the guards and the masons to bring down the cursed lady’s wall site , they found the people still standing wondering about the golden bars found in the wall. The king and the vizier see the golden bars by their own eyes and knew it was not myth. The king orders the masons and workers to bring down the wall and search beneath it. One of the workers find a door with golden knob in to the ground. The workers tried to open the door but in vain as no human can make. In the end the king decided to the horses to open the door. It worked and the door turned to be leading to a cavern.
and search for that treasure the people are speaking about. Upon their arrival to the
Vizier Nooman decided to go down and explore the cavern. There he found a box with a very interesting golden lock.
He brings back the box to his king. Just as they are going to open it , they hear the awful scream of the old cursed lady ordering them to stop immediately.
Tomorrow we will know why the old scary lady ordered them to stop and what happened between her and the king in a new Arabian night.

And the tale goes on and on.

After bringing down the wall as well the ruins of the old cursed lady’s house and finding a small box with a golden lock in a cavern underneath the wall and the ruins , the Sultan was on the verge of opening that box when the Cursed old lady appeared screaming “Stop”.

“Stop do not open the box , stop enough what you had done already” she said angrily , after all that mob led by that man destroyed the rest of her wall and her house as well stole her golden bar.

They also took the Wonder box as she called it with no right what so ever. She kept screaming angrily till Vizier Nooman attempted to calm her down as well intimidate her indirectly telling her that she was standing in front of the Sultan himself and she had to behave.

Caring less, she told the Sultan that as his subject he abused her rights. With no right, he took her home from her and ordered that her houses and wall to be brought down. With no right, he took her golden bar. With no right, he took her wonder box.

The Sultan told her that she was right and he would compensate her. First, she will live in a new house instead of the one destroyed. Second she will take back her golden bar and third he wanted the box but he wanted to know what was in it. She tells that if he wants a box then she will start an auction for the higher bidder.

In that short auction, there were only competitors: The old cursed lady and The Sultan. The Sultan won the auction and bought the box for a huge fortune that made the Sultana made for real !!

In his palace,  the Sultan opens the Wonder Box with the golden lock with the help of a Jeweler who tells him that he had not seen a box like that from a long age. They open the box. They find in the box: A money pouch and deer skin.

There were strange letters inscribed into the deer skin that no one can identify. The Sultan orders his viziers to bring him priests to decode those strange letters. They find in the box: A money pouch and deer skin. There were strange letters

#June21 : Egyptian Women Protest For Detainees At the Presidential Palace

Dozens of very brave Egyptian women protested at the Presidential Palace in Heliopolis demanding the release of the detainees in Egypt. The protest is organized on the anniversary of the famous Anti-Protest law march to presidential palace from a year ago which ended by arresting a group of activists above them Yara Salem and Sanaa Seif
Yara , Sanaa and other young protesters  were sentenced to three years in jail for illegal protesting in no time when you think about for standing the Unconstitutional protest law.
Today’s protest was led by Mona Seif, the renowned activist and Sanaa’s sister.
Mona Seif and the women protesters holding lanterns and banners
"Salam Said"
The numbers were higher than what I expected from what the eye witnesses’accounts say as well photos on twitter.
The protesters including relatives of detainees hold their photos as well small Ramadan Lanterns.
A group of policewomen came to the protesters and told them that it was better to leave because they were in Ramadan and so on but they insisted on completing the protest till the end.It took one hour.
On the other hand, the policemen harassed the journalists and photographers covering the protesters and took their cameras and mobile phones deleting their photos showing the protest like BBC journalist Farid Farid.
Shady Hussein : They took from my mobile phone and erased all the photos and videos I filmed for the protest demanding the release of the detainees. Farid was left to take photos later by his mobile phone.
According to him the number reached to 100 and this could be unprecedented from a long time in that place. Many of them got sons and brothers who are in prisons now for political reasons.
Nevertheless some photos made it online on the spot. I am updating the Photo gallery with more photos as it seems there is no media coverage for real for this important protest which reminds me with the Mothers movement in 1970s Argentina.
