Happy New year from the Egyptian Chronicler to all the people in the world , may the new year be better than 2011 for Egypt and for the whole world.

We started last year 2011 with a disaster and we ended as a nation on the verge of a huge change hopefully insh Allah it will be for the better because things will not be worse than those 30 years of Mubarak’s rule. May Allah bless the souls of our martyrs and injured. May Allah make this year peaceful and fruitful , may God protect the Egyptian blood and let it not to be spelled again on the hands of another Egyptian , may all Egyptians not to be humiliated again.

Insh Allah this year will be better for Egypt , Syria , Bahrain, Yemen, Libya and amazing Tunisia, this year will be better for Palestine and Iraq.

I have got too many hopes and too fears.

In the end I will share with you again this amazing clip narrated by sir David Attenborough , there is nothing better to start the new year except with this amazing video.

Insh Allah nothing bad will happen in 2012 , it will not be the end of the world but rather a new beginning for a new world being shaped in front of our eyes.

Thousands of Egyptians have celebrated the new year’s eve at Tahrir square tonight in a big celebratory mood full of hope. For the first since two months thousands gather in Tahrir square without gunshots or injured or tear gases instead there are balloons with the faces of the martyrs and fireworks.
The Egyptians at Tahrir by RNN

The Kasr El Dobra church held its new year mass dedicating it to Egypt and to the martyrs of revolutions whose photos were hanged in the church including Sheikh Emad Effat. After the mass that was attended by Christians and Muslims , hundreds headed in a march to Tahrir square to join the hundreds celebrating the new year eve chanting pro-revolutionary and anti-SCAF chants.

The spirit is extremely high at Tahrir square tonight , there was a candle vigil dedicated to the martyrs whether our revolution martyrs or our two Saints Church’s martyrs.

There was one stage set at Tahrir square , there were religious Sufi Islamic songs as well Christian prayers. Ramy Essam , Eskanderella and Ali El Hagr also participated in that wonderful celebration. It is the most fancy stage set up at Tahrir square if I may say.
In case of you are asking I am not celebrating at Tahrir square while I wish I were , insh Allah I will next year with friends and families as well millions of Egyptians.
From a year ago I was awake all night cover the two saints church and tonight I feel that I owe it to our martyrs who fell through out Egypt in 2011 a lot of things , May Allah bless their souls. Here is amazing clip at the Church after one year where Muslims and Christians stood and sang our national anthem in breathe taking scene.
Alexandria : Two Saints church after one year
Our brothers and sisters did not welcome the head of Alexandria’s security directorate at the Two saints church. There is unconfirmed news that Potential presidential candidate Ahmed Shafik attended the mass there.

Egyptian Chronicles’ Women of the Year #2011 in the Arab world

$

Ok I wrote a post about the women that left their mark in Egypt in 2011 and I think we should make one for our ladies of the year in the Arab world , again there is no arrangement in this unorganized list.
All the Arab mothers , wives and daughters who lost their husbands and sons in the Arab revolution are on the top of my list.  ladies who were killed in the Arab revolutions and who were raped in the Arab revolutions are on the top of my list.
Manal and her son after her release
The first name that pops in my head without thinking is Manal El Sherif in her role to bring up the rights of the Saudi Women to drive in 2011 to the light , the right2drive campaign that she and other ladies launched in 2011 led to the women’s right to vote in the Kingdom.
Of course Tawakel Karman is in my list along with all the Yemeni women who changed the stereotype of Arabian women in the world .
Now when it comes to Syria well I got too many names in mind starting from the famous Tal who thank God is still alive according to human rights source , we got also Syrian actor Fadwa Soliman and singer Assala Nasri and her stand against El Assad since the start of the revolution.  We got the amazing Syrian activists like Razan Ghazzawi “Who was released last month” as well Sohair Al-Attasi.
Zeinab Al Khawaga
I can’t ignore Bahrain and the role of women there from doctors and human rights activists as well mothers and wives of martyrs. Nobody can ignore the famous Al Khawaga family’s ladies especially Zeinab Al Khawaga in bringing up the human rights issue in the small gulf kingdom to the world and paying a price of it , of course it is moderate price considering the price other Bahrainis paid and are paying from losing their beloved ones in an uprising that sooner turned to international game of power.
To Libya we got Eman Obeidi that represents hundreds or even thousands of Libya women that were raped and tortured during the revolution by the Qaddafi troops.
The Tunisian women are there as well and it is only about their role in the revolution but their impressive role after the revolution as well.

Negative mentions

I know that I forgot some news , if you remember any significant name , please share it.

Nagham El Halbawy , more than just one case in a critical time

Nagham
Nagham El Halbawy , a 16 years old girl lives in Alexandria who was kidnapped from her house while she was alone on December 29th,2011. It was not the first kidnap or disappearance case in Egypt after the revolution nor it would be the last yet there was something special about Nagham’s case unlike other kidnap case : The political background.
Nagham’s case came to the media especially social media’s attention after it was known that she is the younger sister of Sheikh Mohamed ElHelbawy , the coordinator of potential presidential candidate Sheikh Hazem Abu Ismail
The famous Islamist controversial presidential candidate did  not waste any time and believed that the kidnappers had political motives.
“It has got the state security stamps on it”
Abu Ismail claims
There were some strange remarks about the kidnap according to her brother Sheikh El Helbawy. The kidnappers did not call up till now to ask for a ransom and there was nothing valuable stolen from their home during the kidnap instead the whole house was turned upside down. Another remark I am so curious about was that she was kidnapped between 11 AM to 12.30 PM at the midday , where were the neighbors then especially when some pieces of the furniture at their home were smashed.
Abu Ismail is known for his strong criticism to SCAF but one thing I know for sure his big threats and ultimatums to SCAF have proven to be full of hot air.
Honestly I am not from the team that would jump in to the wagon of the political conspiracy theory right away because I read the crime page for months now and there was a terrible increase in kidnap cases throughout Egypt but no one is paying attention for some reason in the Egyptian social media.
Personally I  know a friend whose toddler cousin and her nanny were kidnapped from their house in New Cairo during the first day of the parliamentary elections when everybody was at the polling stations. The kidnappers called the family after 24 hours demanding a ransom , when the family prepared the ransom in coordination with the police and went to the location where they would leave the ransom to find the baby girl and her nanny there alone !! Needless to the baby girl is in shock up till now and her nanny was raped !!!!!!!!!! I did not follow up the case to know if the police managed to get the criminals or not. There are other famous cases like Zeina Anwar El Sadat and that AUC student.
Another thing if the state security is playing its old games and tricks once again, well I must confess that I can’t get their reason because if they want to intimidate Sheikh El Halbawy and Sheikh Hazem , well they failed so far because all what I see is extreme anger from security forces and SCAF , an anger that can be exploded sooner than later.
Needless to say this comes in a very critical time , several activists were reportedly abducted by unknown parties “allegedly security services” before the latest crackdown in mysterious incidents.  I do not understand honestly if you want to calm things down after these incidents
By the way I have enough from radical Salafists who are attacking Liberals and leftists online for not bringing the case despite as far as I could liberals and leftists online brought up the case since day one. I will not go in details on how some TV personalities like Khaled Abdullah “I do not consider him a Sheikh anymore” use this case for dirty political issues because what matters to me is the life of a 16 years old girl whom I am praying that she is safe right now and unharmed aside from all that political debate.
I hope and pray that Nagham will return back home safe unharmed and that her kidnap has not political or religious background what so over.
Here is a free Nagham Facebook page as well her brother’s twitter account Mohamed El Helbawy.
Please pray for her return safe to her home.

#Mubaraktrial : Session No.13 or session no.6

It is session no.13 in Mubarak’s trial !! Can you believe it !? Session no.13 in the most boring trial of the century anyhow some says that this session no.6 of the trial of ousted/former president Hosni Mubarak in Cairo. There is nothing new to be honest , same old fights between the families of the martyrs and the security forces , same slogans calling for Mubarak’s execution as well the same old Mubarak supporters who want to be free once and return to rule the country and save it from the dark future waiting it including infamous Sheikha Magda !!
Mubarak arrived on a stretcher as usual yet this time he is wearing a black sunglasses.

Cairo : Mubarak’s arrival to the court
Again there are contradicting media reports about the health of Mubarak and whether he should be transferred to Tora prison’s hospital or not.
And Alaa and Gamal Mubarak avec Habib El Adly arriving to the court.
Cairo : Alaa and Gamal Mubarak as well Habib El Adly at the court
Alaa Mubarak brought some plastic chair while Gamal Mubarak is holding a Holy Quran with him !! Habib El Adly is cool as ever as if he were on the way to the health club !!
El Adly modeling for GQ !!!!
According to Ahram newspaper on Monday the defendants’ lawyers presented to the court evidence that some of the revolution martyrs’ dead bodies got foreign features !! I do not understand what this means !? Do they mean that they are foreigner !? Ok if they are foreigners who killed them and why !? Not to mention where their countries are !?
The lawyer of defendant Ahmed Ramzy “6th Defendant in the shooting of the protesters case and former head of CSF” demanded the court to release of the defendants for health reason while the lawyer of El Adly demanded the court to summon General Sami Anan for testimony. “Some plaintiffs demanded the same thing”
The court has adjourned the trial to Tuesday tomorrow to continue to start officially hearing the prosecution for the next three days , till the end of the week. Now all the country is ready to listen for the prosecution and what Abdel Magid Mahmoud’s boys got to say to incriminate Mubarak. Officially the prosecution stated today Mubarak and El Adly were not responsible for the shooting of the protesters at the police stations !! They were responsible for the shooting of the protesters at Egypt’s squares only !! “So the protesters who were shot at Kasr Al Nil bridge and Al Galaa bridge are not included in the cases !?”
The prosecution also stated that Mubarak and the rest of the police gang are being prosecuted for the shooting of 262 martyr and more than 1000 injured only !! According to official Ministry of health’s estimation we got 868 martyrs and over 6000 injured !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Needless to say the public prosecution either to go to hell or to heaven with what they are going to say.
Many people now believe that Mubarak will get away from the trial especially after the shocking court’s order to acquit the police officers accused of killing the protesters at “Al Sayida Zeinab” quarter in Cairo last Thursday despite there are video clips showing the officers while they were shooting the protesters !!!! The evidence presented by the prosecution office according to lawyers was not solid and that’s what I am afraid from in a trial like Mubarak’s.
Needless to say if Mubarak is acquitted ,I can say that it will be a real suicide committed by SCAF. Already the families of the martyrs promised to execute themselves if the court does not order his execution.
Here is Mubarak and gang leaving the court.

Meet our latest potential presidential candidate : Lt.General Khairallah , the former intelligence undersecretary

Official photo for Khairallah
I think I owe you an apology because I know about this newcomer to the presidential race but I was too lazy to blog about it, anyhow at least we got more news now than just friends chitchat.
A former Lt.General called Hossam Khairallah announced his presidential candidacy today in Cairo in Grand Hyatt hotel in a press conference attended by newspapers and TV channels. The presidential program of the former Lt. General that denies to be the candidate of the military is focusing mainly on education and civility of the state.
From the name or rather the military rank you will know immediately that we are speaking about military man , a big military man. Well for sure he is a big military man but there is a twist in our tale here.
1945 born Hossam Khairallah is a Yemen war and 1973 war veteran who joined the Egyptian intelligence aka GIS from 1977 till 2005. Lt. General Hossam Khairallah had served in the GIS in the information and estimation unit for year 26 years till he became the undersecretary of the GIS in 2005. This man participated in making the most important international economic and political agreements Egypt signed like the COMESA agreement.
Ahmed Hossam Kamel Khairallah comes from a family with a long history in the Egyptian security history. His grandfather was the governor of Giza , general Hamed Khairallah who refused to participate in the Abbas bridge massacre and his father a police general was the governor of Aswan who fought drugs in 1970s.
Here is a part of his press conference.
Shorouk news : Hossam Khairallah announces his presidential candidacy
Now with a little research about Khairallah aside from the impressive military CV spread officially in all website mainly from his Facebook page “very small number of admirers” I found out that Khairallah has been the CEO of some investment company called “Nile investments” since retirement from 2005 . All what I found online is “Nile co. for investment” and 50% of its shares is owned by Saudi company, I do not know if it is the company he heads or not. Interestingly enough this company used to own Tanta flex company , oh yes The Tanta flex company that was returned to the state ownership last year in a victory for the labor movement and in a big slap to the privatization police in Egypt after long struggle.
Khairallah also is the chairman of the New Cairo club. He also heads a newly found association called “The Egyptian association for environmental quality”. This association was founded in last August 2011 and as you can guess from its name it is an environmental group.
Khairalla did not deny that he served with Omar Soliman in GIS , on the contrary he said it clearly that he worked with Omar Soliman for 14 years
I know about Lt. General Khairallah’s presidential candidacy since last week thanks to a dear friend that got a tip from a colleague in his work.  That colleague is an ex-NDPian who used to be a member of the infamous electronic committee in the fallen party.
Khairallah is the third man from military background to declare his presidential candidacy official and is the second one now after the withdrawal of General Hatata from the race , whom I respect now so much after that decision. Officially it is him and former PM and Lt.General Ahmed Shafik when we speak about military candidate.
I do not think that Khairallah is the presidential candidate of SCAF but rather the intelligence if the intelligence is playing around as well  , you know everybody is playing and has got a presidential candidate. If SCAF has a presidential candidate , it will be none other than Ahmed Shafik. Khairallah has also made it clear that he is not the presidential candidate
SCAF would be more stupider than I think if it has got than one presidential candidate , some people believe that Amr Moussa and Ahmed Shafik are the presidential candidates of the SCAF but they do not understand that Moussa and Shafik are competing on the same segment of voters. Shafik and Moussa will spilt votes so you can imagine the how many votes are now lost from the two men because of Khairallah.
Interestingly enough Khairallah insists that Omar Soliman is not going to run for the presidential elections and that if he does , Khairallah will not withdraw.
Needless to say many Egyptians including the revolutionary youth are refusing any military candidate whoever he is , it is crystal clear. I will not waste your time and mine speaking about the reasons.
Now here is an interview I found for Khairallah on ONTV with Amr Khafga in last August where he spoke about the national security concept. I like to listen to everybody.
ONTV : Khairallah speaks about National security concept
He slammed Mubarak’s reactions policies. Ok I do not like how he considers Iran as an enemy from the start.
Khairallah appeared again on ONTV on October 14th,2011 to speak about the unknown third party involved in our clashes.
ONTV : Khairallah speaks about third party theory
He was introduced as the third man after Omar Soliman in GIS till 2005. Again he believes in the third party theory especially in Maspero clashes !!  “I am amazed that we had to abort the Helwan air fighter project in return of 242 thanks to the Soviets .”
To be honest he is more serious than Ahmed Shafik who charms many of the Cairene high middle and upper classes with his soft elegant sweet talk. As a strategic expert is more stable than Katu and his brothers.
FYI I am not against any Egyptian to run for presidential elections but I want all ex-military to wait for four years till to we enforce the civility of the state with a new constitution insh Allah if they have good intentions.
Anyhow days will tell if Khairallah is a big dreamer or if he is supported by the military or the intelligence or both.
The presidential elections from what I understood will be held next April 2012 !!
P.S you must that the Muslim brotherhood will support Non Islamist Civilian presidential candidate according to several leaks from the brotherhood.

US Embassy slams Al Masry Al Youm

The US embassy in Cairo has issued a short statement today slamming Al Masry Al Youm after what the famous daily newspaper claimed that the American administration has pressed the Arab countries in the Gulf not to aid Egypt financially.
Here is the statement :
There is no truth to press reports alleging that the States has asked Arab countries to refrain from providing financial assistance to Egypt. To the contrary, we are continuing to engage other international partners to look for ways to support Egypt during this transitional period
AMAY allegedly claims that the American administration has pressed the Gulf countries not to aid Egypt financially because SCAF appointed Ganzoury instead of Mohamed ElBaradei as PM.
You must know these sources of Al Masry Al Youm are the same source of Mr. Emad El Din Adeeb.
This news without doubt is a big blow to ElBaradei and his campaign portraying him as a man backed up by the States and that the States is ready to punish the country because of him. Needless to say the credibility of AMAY is decreasing day after day with my all respect to my dear friends working there.
This is another chapter in the going silly play about the foreign funding and intervention.

Queue outside a polling station in Matrouh "RNN"
Earlier today the 3rd stage of the parliamentary elections in 9 governorates in Egypt. There was not high turnout like in the previous two stages. According to news reports the turnout also differed from an area to another and from a governorate to another.
The governorates participating in the last stage of the parliamentary elections are : Minya , Qalyubia , Gharbia, Dakahlia , North Sinai, South Sinai, New Valley , Matrouh, Qena.
Throughout the day there is nothing new when it comes to violations from everybody especially campaigning outside the polling stations.
Now there are interesting points in this stage :
  • After 24 hours from the start of the race the independent candidates are reportedly advancing in in Upper Egyptian governorates which is no surprise considering the families and tribal relations there.
  • Dakahlia got amazing combination of candidates , first the Revolution continues coalition got a strong opportunity in the Mansoura itself thanks to the full of support of popular Dr. Mohamed Ghonim there. Second we got the amazing anti revolution icons running in the governorate whether Mortada Mansour or Tawfik Okasha.
  • The fight between the FJ party and Salafist party is still there.
  • The number of voters in this stage is 14,500,000 voters
The Egyptian embassies held the 3rd stage of the parliamentary elections in the past two days through out the world.

#Mubarak trial : Mubarak arrived late and the prosecution continues its case

And it is session no.14  , the prosecution should continue its case that will supposedly end tomorrow Thursday.
Mubarak arrived late because of the bad weather conditions , he is being transferred by a helicopter from the international medical center in Ismailia – Cairo highway to the police academy where the trail is held at New Cairo. There was thick mist earlier today.
Mubarak and other defendants in the trial got their own signature Chinese skippers now !! Oh yes slippers with the photos of Mubarak and the rest of the gang are being sold for the first time in the trial today.

I did read what the prosecution said yesterday but some got leaks and it seems the prosecution’s case was not that strong , may be we need it to be transferred on air on TV so the prosecution would have a stronger argument to impress the public. Still today according to news reports the martyrs’ families who attended the session applauded the prosecution’s case today.
According to what was published the prosecution accused the security apparatuses including the ministry of interior and the national security of not helping them deliberately.
The prosecution also considered Mubarak and El Adly as the inciters and not as original perpetrators whom they can’t reach “police officers” , even if they did not order the perpetrators , they did not stop them through their positions from the systematic shooting.
The inciters’ penalty in the murder crime in the criminal law reaches to death sentence “Check Hisham Talaat Mostafa case” but the court needs in this case
There were today two projector screens to show videos from the early of the revolution showing the systematic shooting of the protesters as well the testimonies of policemen from those who participated in the shooting of the protesters
From what I understood the prosecution has spilt the case of Mubarak , we got once again one case regarding the shooting of protesters and the other one about the corruption charges.

Update :
Here is a leak from the prosecution addressing the court yesterday , it seems that someone recorded it and leaked it to Al Arabiya new network
Farid El Dib has been absent for in the past two sessions , today and tomorrow.

#Mubaraktrial : Prosecution demands Mubarak’s execution

$

And the prosecution ended its case on Thursday in the shooting of the protesters case demanding the execution of Mubarak , El Adly and 6 of El Adly’s former assistants. Today the prosecution revealed a lot of interesting and controversial points :

  • The prosecution compared on how Mubarak acted in the 1997 Luxor terrorist massacre and how he acted  in January 2011.In 1997 he sucked off the minister of interior El Afly and appointed El Adly after the murder of couple tourists where as hundreds were killed in 2011 and he did not move to stop their systemic shooting of the protesters.
  • Mubarak claimed in the prosecution’s investigations  that he did not know what was really happening and that the protesters were getting killed. “Setting up Habib El Adly
  • El Adly from side claimed that he could not shot a single live bullet without Mubarak’s permission and that Mubarak held two meetings ordering El Adly to stop violence against protesters. “The general attorney did not say when but it seems that Mubarak did know on the violence against the protesters”
  • Mubarak also claimed interestingly that he stepped down because the army refused to do what he assigned it to do !! “What was that ? I can’t keep myself from thinking about what Tantawy said in the court.”
  • Former ministers of interior Wagdy and Eissawy stated the minister of interior has no power to use live ammunition against the protesters except by a direct order from the president of the state. “I remember that Eissawy raised that issue over and over in TV interviews before being appointed as minister of interior”
  • The prosecution is insisting that even if Mubarak did not issue the order for the shooting the protesters , he did not give the orders to stop the violence against the protesters.

The public prosecution also started its case against Mubarak , his sons and runaway Hussein Salem in the corruption and bribery case.

For the second in row Mubarak shows up late allegedly because of the mist in the Cairo-Ismailia highway and the bad weather conditions.

Tahrir newspaper claimed today that Mubarak did not show up in time yesterday not because the bad weather condition but rather because he did not want to go !!

I do not know if Farid El Dib showed up today or not. Of course I wish that there were cameras allowed inside the court because I wanted to see the facial expressions of Mubarak , his sons , El Adly and the 6 assistants after hearing the prosecution demanding the execution penalty.

Even if the court orders the execution penalty , Mubarak can appeal the court and wins or even gets a pardon for age and health reasons. It is worth to mention that if the court orders the death penalty for Mubarak , I think Farid El Dib should quit his job because it seems that he never wins a case considering Ayman Nour  case , Azzam Azzam case and Hisham Talaat Mostafa case !!

Many activists consider this as a concession before January 25, 2012.

Back to the trial the court is adjourned to next 9th and 10th January 2012. According to some news the court has punished the officers responsible for leaking that recording of the prosecution on January 3rd,2011. I will publish the leaked recording that was published in Al Arabiya.

Also the minister of interior Ibrahim has defended the police officers who saluted El Adly on January 3rd ,2011 and claimed that El Adly was the one who saluted them and they had to reply the salute for human reasons !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ibrahim also claimed that the MOI did not help the prosecution in the killing of the protesters case because the MOI was a collapsed ministry by January 28th  !! There were no investigations nor reports nor evidence collected then !! “Of course  it was, was not every police officer and official disappeared after 5 PM across the country !?”

The GIS also fired back claiming that the apparatus is the servant of the Egyptian people denying that it did not cooperate with the prosecution

Meanwhile Outside Cairo : Sohag , Alexandria and Sharm

Meanwhile outside Cairo and the political jazz taking place there as well outside the circus of the parliamentary elections from one side and the Mubarak’s trial from another side.
First of the crisis of the butane gas cylinders continues  through Egypt in extreme cold weather. The prices of the butane gas cylinder hike up to the sky and average Egyptians are cursing everybody especially those in power more than those in the street.
Here is a video showing a protest in Girga of Sohag , Upper Egypt of angry citizens protesting the lack of butane gas cylinders at the city council.
Sohag : Protesters want gas cylinders
Now what is extremely interesting in this video that the people of Girga are protesting at the city council accusing its officials of creating this crisis , this shows you that people are not afraid to stand for their rights anymore.
Sohag : people of Girga do not want the head of their city council
Second Alexandria is having its own sea in the city itself after rains as usual !! I hope that the new members of parliament act as it should in this situation.

Here is a video from dear Alexandria from Alexandria Live FB page

Third and last thing is a sad news from Sharm El Sheikh , an owner of 6 bazaars torched himself there after failing to pay the rent of his bazaars. The situation in Sharm is not that good without doubt yet again it will not be worse than the terrorism years or even Sharm blasts.
I started first with our people in Girga’s protest to show that there is something that changed in the country despite all the hardships. By the way I found those videos through a local Girga’s FB page where people use to communicate and share interesting news about the famous city. When I browsed this page , I found a warning to the protesters in Tahrir square from any attack to clash with the army on January 25th, 2012 to the end of this talk demanding the protesters to stick with the peacefulness of the revolution principle. This is not a felol page I suppose but I consider this an important indicator , the media machine is strong without doubt but I have a faith.

Syrian Revolution : #300DaysLater

$

Today Friday January 6th , 2012 marks the 300th Day of the Syrian Revolution in March 2011 , today is the 300th day and the Syrians are still paying huge price for demanding their freedom and their kids freedom, for having a powerful Strong Syria. I have counting but the numbers of the Syrian martyrs have exceeded the 3000 martyrs , endless number of injured and detainees not to mention a spilt in the Syrian army and huge fear from the future.

Today the thousands of Syrians took the street again demanding the immediate international intervention especially after the failure of the Arab observers and LAS to stop the daily blood rains in the country.

Hama : We will write our history with our blood
Idlib : A protest in Darkoush city
Homs : Our demand is the heaven
Aleppo : A protest in Marea
Palmyra : A protest in the ancient city of Palmyra
Reef Dimshaq : Demanding international intervention
Hama : The people want international intervention

In 300 days A city like Homs has took the banner from Hama and Daraa and I feel that there is no family in the city that who has not got a member who was not injured or killed !!!

Today the first news came from Syria did not come from the outside Damascus and the crimes of El Assad regime but from Damascus , a huge blast from Downtown Damascus with reports of victims killed and injured. Ironically the Syrian TV reported first that the victims were from the regime’s security forces and then later they claimed  that there were civilians !! According to official numbers not less than 11 were killed  and 36 injured in the blast.

In the fastest investigation ever in less than half hour we know that it was a suicide bombing !!  Anyhow the Syrian TV has topped its twin official Egyptian  TV in bias unreal coverage today.

New TV : Transferring from Syrian TV on air !!!

Here is a clip from Lebanese New TV which aired the broadcast of Syrian TV directly from Damascus right after the blast , you can see clearly the location was set up by Syrian TV crew before shooting !!

The Syrian Revolutionaries believe that it was a set up by the regime. Here is a press release by the Syrian Revolution FB page about the blast in English to international press.

Anyhow there has been real blood today as 36 were reportedly killed across the country in the same old bloody crack down. The security forces have stormed the city of Bukamal in Deir Ezzor with tanks , people heavy heavy gun fire in an area between Doma and Harasta in Reef Dimshaq. Net less 13 civilians including teenagers have been killed today in Reef Dimshaq only today.

There were sounds of explosions in Harasta in Reef Dimshaq as well in Hama.

Here is a video showing security beating 3 young men in Modamiaya El Sham , Reef Dimsshaq.

Modamiaya El Sham : 3 young men beaten by security forces gangs

Despite I was busy in the Internal Egyptian Chronicles issues , I could not ignore the Syrian Chronicles for one second , I just could not and can’t. Interestingly enough during the last clashes in Tahrir square between protesters and army forces , I noticed the El Assad’s death machine was working madly killing Syrian civilians day and night in more than the average per day unfortunately as if the world is keeping an eye on Tahrir then it is a golden opportunity .

Unfortunately in 300 days that the international community or rather the main players in the international community waited all that time for their own agendas whether to give El Assad a time to crackdown the revolution or to keep things getting worse in order to have the a reason for direct international intervention. Needless to say our Syrian brothers can’t tolerate it anymore and demand a direct international intervention especially with the constant failure of the Arab league to do anything. The international intervention will not be freedom and democracy to the end of this fancy talk but for another thing started with cutting off the oldest Arab ally of Russia in the region as well Iran.

By the way as much as our revolution is affecting the Syrian revolution  , we are also being affected as well with the Syrian revolution and the future of Syria more than you can think , it is not about how SCAF scares people with the Syrian scenario and the revolutionary protesters class threaten them with Libyan scenario in one of the most disgusting immature way ever scaring the public but about the future of the Egyptian presidential race.

Nabil El Araby met today with Khaled Mashal who took a message from the LAS to Damascus , we will see. There has been news that Hamas has already began to transfer its offices from Damascus to both Doha and Cairo.

#CopticXmas : The hanging Church in Egypt

Coptic Christmas : More than celebration in 2012

And tonight is the Coptic Christmas aka Orthodox Christmas Eve , it is a great event without doubt and this year it is extremely important for three reasons :
The Holy Family in Egypt "Virtual Khan"
  • The first Christmas mass after the revolution.
  • The first Christmas mass after a tough year where tens of Christian protesters were killed in clashes with security forces including the Maspero clashes.
  • The first Christmas mass after the meteoric reason of Islamists in Egypt.
There is no doubt that from 7th January 2011 to 7th January 2012 there is a huge change in the Egyptian Christian community , people are not afraid especially the Christian youth who began to refuse the Church guardianship when it comes to politics after years of Church’s domination. This Christmas Egyptian Christian youth held online Campaign to send a clear message to the Orthodox Church : Do not receive representatives of SCAF.
Mina Daniel and his brothers were not killed in vain because actually his blood gave the Young Christians a power to have their own voice, now we got movements like Maspero Youth Union and Mina Daniel movement that sprang from Tahrir square especially and mainly the Mina Daniel Movement. Even before these movements we had that group of Christians stood against the Church because of the divorce issue , Of course it is not our business but you must know for 3 decades the regime used the Church to control millions of Egyptians in its own way.
Of course I do not like that religious characterization when it comes to politics but I feel that it is important first step and actually I will not blame them because you got unbearable religious polarization and rise of conservative Muslim trends.
Now currently I am watching the Christmas mass on Egyptian TV like every year and I found the following :
  • Pope Shnouda III looks so sick.I feel that the bishops are acting too fast. Already thanks to Christian Friends I know that Bishop Armeia is acting on behalf of him in several parts of the mass !!
  • The Christmas mess is much more merrier than every year.
  • There are not less than 9 army generals invited from SCAF attending the mass including none other than Sami Anan , the chief of Staff himself , Lt. General El Fangry "he is bald" and Lt. General Hegazy. Some of these generals are Christians by the way
Tahany El Gabali , Shafik and Anan
  • Boldly enough Lt. General Hamdy Badeen is sitting in the front of row !!!!! I know about the Christian’s beliefs in forgiveness but as Muslim I find it hard to believe that SCAF’s stupidity reaches to send this man to provoke the feelings of Christians like that !!
Badeen on the left besides minister Hassan Younes
  • I have not seen the family of Mina Daniel among the attendance in the Cathedral !!!
  • The Muslim brotherhood icons are there attending the mass : Saad El Katany , Mahmoud Morsi, Mahmoud Gholzan and Mohamed Abdel Kaddous. The MB youth are protecting the Church tonight.
MP Saad El Katany of FJ party
  • Potential Presidential candidates Amr Moussa , Hamdeen Sabhi and Ahmed Shafik are attending , I can’t see potential presidential candidate ElBaradei and I will not expect to see potential presidential candidate Abu Ismail there. Interesting enough Shafik got a seat in the first row.

  • The American ambassador is there as well Adel Emam and MP Amr Hamzawy and Mostafa El Feky. Mona Makram Ebeid is there.
  • When Pope Shnouda addressed the public in the Church as the custom and praised the army leadership attending there was that noise from the back and it turned out some chanted “Down with the military rule”. Of course one minute the chants were silenced. The Church security allegedly detained the young men who chanted "Down with military rule"

  • Hamdy Badeen kissed the shoulders of Pope Shnouda as sign of respect for the elder.

It is worth to mention that the Kasr El Dobara Church of Tahrir square held a special mass in the morning where pro-revolution icons were there from Muslims including Ahmed Harara , his mother , Reem Magued, Yosri Fouda, Alaa El Aswany , Amr Khafga.
    Harara with Amr Moussa

Potential presidential candidate Amr Moussa was there as well and he saluted Harara.

Here are video clips showing the reception of the activists especially Ahmed Harara in the Church of Kasr Al Dobara.

The photos of the martyrs were raised in the mass at other churches across the country.
Merry Christmas to all Egyptian Christians and to Orthodox Christians worldwide.

Dear Russia , Germany and France keep your concerns to yourselves !!!

And so Russia is deeply concern over the death sentence the prosecution demanded in the Mubarak’s trial asking Egypt to consider the old age and health condition in a statement issued by the Russian ministry of foreign affairs.
Interestingly Russia is so concerned on the life of a dictator like Mubarak and is not concerned on the lives of Syrians killed on a daily basis by the hands of the El Assad regime. This Russian concern reminds with how angry the Russian government after the murder of Qaddafi on the hands of the Libyan revolutionaries.
The French ministry of foreign affairs as well the German ministry of foreign affairs also expressed their concerns regarding the death penalty yesterday Friday.
Anyhow I would like to calm down Russia ,Germany , France and the rest of the civilized world , even if  Mubarak is convicted and gets a death penalty , he will be pardoned according to the Egyptian laws because of his old age before his health condition.
Already with the weak circumstantial evidence in the case is not enough to send Mubarak to the death row , unlike the case of Hisham Talaat Mostafa where we got a strong circumstantial evidence there is no much evidence against Mubarak especially everybody is contradicting the other. If you want to convict Mubarak in a normal trial, you should go to the corruption cases and God knows how many they are.
I know that dictators like Mubarak have their ways to get away from normal trials and that exceptional revolutionary courts are the only way to get them , well I hate the revolutionary exceptional courts because I know that rarely they would be truly just and the number of the innocent people who become the victims of these trials are more than the true guilty criminals.
To be honest I pray that Mubarak dies and ends that Saga , already whatever punishment he will receive in this life , it is nothing like the lives he ruined in a way or another for 30 years , let God be his judge.

Nabil El Araby : Will he be the MB’s winning card in the presidential elections !?

For months I knew that Nabil El Araby , our current LAS secretary general was among the unannounced names mentioned as potential presidential candidates not only among the public but among the political Olympia class. Now Shorouk newspaper announced today that the Shura council of MB will be held by the end of the month and that it will discuss a lot of issues among which the presidential elections and the candidates the MB and its political arm “FJ party” will support.

On the top of the presidential candidates the MB are thinking of supporting Nabil El Araby who got huge support from several MB leaders according to the newspaper.

From one month ago I knew that the Muslim brotherhood will support a Non Islamist Non military civilian presidential candidate in the race in a clever political move as now we got military candidates like Shafik or Khairallah as well Islamist candidates like Abu El Fatouh or Hazem Abu Ismail or El Awa . If they support a candidate with military background , they will prove the accusations that they have a deal with SCAF. If they support an Islamist candidate , they will prove the fears from Islamists take over . “Already they can’t stomach Abu El Fatouh and Abu Ismail is more of Salafist then MB”

Despite they supported Dr. ElBaradei in the past , they need a new face especially that there is not huge public support for real for any candidate , El Araby seems to be that new Non Islamist civilian liberal name perfect to have their support. From two sources I knew that El Araby was among the candidates of the brotherhood.

Nabil El Araby can be strong candidate and can win a lot of his support among Egyptian public especially against Khairallah. His fiasco in Syria I do not think will consider a challenge for him that much because Egyptians know very well it is not up to the LAS secretary general.

Already just look to Amr Mousa and the fiascos the LAS witnessed in his time and he got the nerve to run for the elections !!

The question now is not whether the Shura council of MB will support El Araby but whether will El Araby accept this offer and enter the race !?

Another question why the MB leaked the news to Shorouk newspaper in this time now !? Does this has to do with Khairallah’s candidacy !?

Is the MB trying to showing the El Araby how popular he is in the public to force him to run ? I do not know , I can’t myself from asking why they uncover their card now.

Of course El Araby officially is stuck in LAS till at least March 2012 when the general assembly of LAS is held. Will these three months be enough for El Araby to win the vote of the Egyptians if he accepts the offer !?

    Ibrahim Aslan "1935-2012"
Famous Egyptian leftist novelist Ibrahim Aslan "1935-2012" has passed away in hospital last Saturday in Cairo after taking some wrong medication for flu that affected his heart.

I will not claim that I have read anything for Aslan before , I know that Nile Sparrows novel was his novel and it was translated to different language and was highly received yet I have respected the man so much for his actions during the Mubarak era when he refused state awards in clear rare defiance to that regime in its powerful times.
    Snowy Egret cover
Many Egyptians ignore that famous Daoud Abdel Sayed’s film “Kit Kat” {Produced in 1991 , starring Mahmoud Abdel Aziz in iconic role of Sheikh Hosni} was inspired by Aslan’s novel “Snowy Egret”
    May Allah bless Aslan.
Here is his official website by Shorouk publication house. Here is also a wonderful piece written by our mysterious Baheyya blogger about the Art of Ibrahim Aslan.
By the way in 2011 I have not been able to read book to the end , hopefully I will be able to do it in 2012 insh Allah.

Regarding the Pregnant Spanish minister of defense

Today the hot photo shared over FB profiles , pages and groups in Egypt is the photo of Spanish ex-minister of defense Carme Chacón when she was pregnant on how women can be minister of defense while they are pregnant and heading politically the Spanish armed forces . Some people hope to see a civilian defense minister like pre-1952 in Egypt while other teased SCAF and Tantawy with it and the rest made fun of it.
Ironically those youth sharing the photo on the Facebook also shared a small info about 23-F coup without any reference to the Franco rule and the transformation of democracy there through reforms not through revolution.
I do not like that sort of photos and comparisons now despite I will not hate to see a woman as minister of defense in Egypt on the contrary I hope that I will live the day to see it , I have always admired the former French minister of defense Michele Alliot Marie before Tunisian revolution but I am more of a realistic person when it comes to Egypt especially when it comes to our army.
Needless to say knowing how Egyptians do think especially men , 3/4 of these youth sharing the photo without doubt in normal times will refuse having a woman as minister of defense , in fact they will make fun of any woman minister pregnant in general but now everybody is revolutionary.
There is a complete isolation without doubt between the class of revolution youth and the rest of the people in Egypt .There is complete isolation between the youth and reality , they are forgetting that Chacón became the first woman minister for defense in Spain after decades of the Franco rule. For God sake we are on the verge of celebrating the first anniversary of January 25th revolution that still has got a lot to be done in order to be considered a real revolution.
In order to have that scene in Egypt then you must prepare generations to accept it and this is not an easy thing especially in a society that due to the long bitter history of wars in the 20th century preferred for a long time that its president to have a military background !!
Our society is conservative sexist society , we have to be honest with ourselves if we want to re-build this nation once again. The Nour Salafist Party that came the second place of the parliament refuses the idea of having women in the parliament. Do I need to speak about the judiciary battle !? And how are we fighting so women would be accepted as a judge !?
Do I need to speak to that dirty sexist slogan “Why do girls go to protests ? because they are more manly than you !?”.
I will not even speak about the army , its officers and soldiers with their old sexist thinking because actually I know some of the dreamy revolutionaries think we should disband that army and reform it again in a revolutionary way as if Egypt is a country in the pacific ocean with small army easy to be disbanded or if the Egyptian people will accept that.
Of course some of the revolutionary youth now despise that retarded conservative majority and wishing it would die but it will not and they will always be there and we should work on wining them and not losing them with the usual rejection.
If I want a minister of defense in Egypt post revolution , I want him or her like in the States or Israel , true peace in the Middle East is a long awaited dream for a country like Egypt especially the revolutionary Egypt we want is faraway from the American fellowship but rather independent country that only cares for national security’s best interest.
We can have a woman civilian minister of defense after long successful time of civilian rule and peace in the Middle East.
By the way women are not enrolled in the Egyptian army except as medical officers and nursers
Already there is question in my mind : Who will be the next minister of defense in Egypt after the departure of SCAF ? Will he be Anan or someone else !? Of course these are the scary questions no one want to answer or fear to answer because nobody owns an answer. It is better to ask  instead on when are we going to have a woman minister for defense in Egypt !?
