Mohamed Mahmoud street Battle in video

$

This is the long raw video I have seen for the Mohamed Mahmoud street battle.Nearly 28 minutes showing the fierce battle between the protesters and security forces in that bloody street.
Mohamed Mamoud street battle : Raw video
Now a group of activists believe that this video is another video allegedly incriminating the infamous eyes hunter aka Mohamed El Shennawy  , they believe that El Shennawy appears in the video at 19:50 minute. To  be honest it is unclear if it was El Shennawy in the shot.
It is not clear that it is Shennawy
El Shennawy is currently being detained 15 days pending investigation. His photo wearing aviator sunglasses without handcuffs that was published in Tahrir newspaper has caused controversy about the treatment of the suspects like him.
El Shennawy without handcuff
El Shennawy and his defense team have claimed in front of the public prosecutor that he was having a rest at this time !!
It is worth to mention that there was a strong rumor that El Shennawy was released by the public prosecution , well I did not believe it for one second because if the MOI wants to keep him alive or even safe , it would be better to put him behind bars.

Meet our new minister of interior !!!

And here is our new minister of interior Police general Mohamed Yousssef Ibrahim.
Ibrahim while swearing in "By Hany Rasmy"
Mohamed Ibrahim is originally from Alexandria , he was born in year 1947. He graduated from police academy in 1968 to start his career in the police force mainly in general security. From 1968 to 1990 he served in the general security sector in Cairo, Sharkia and Giza. From 1993 to 2001 he served in almost all the the governorates in Upper Egypt except Mania. This man worked in Upper Egypt , in Sohag , Aswan , Bani Sawif, Qena and Asuit in the bloody golden years of terrorism and counter terrorism in Egypt. In 2002 he worked as the minister aide for prisons affairs.
From 2003 till 2005 he worked as the head of Giza security directorate. In 2006 he was promoted to become the minister aide for the economic security sector and in 2007 he was retired.
All this according to the official CV published by the official page of the MOI.
Since retirement he began a frequent guest on TV shows.
Now what was not mentioned in the MOI official CV that the retired police general was promoted or rather left his place as the head of Giza security directorate in 2006 after the infamous massacre of Mustafa Mahmoud in December 2005.
For those who do not know Mohamed Ibrahim used to head the Giza security directorate and he was among those responsible for the infamous massacre of Sudanese refugees at Mustafa Mahmoud square if you remember it on 30 December 2005 !!
Quick reminder : A big group of Sudanese refugees mostly from South Sudan had a sit in in the heart of the Upper Class Mohendessin quarter in front of the UNHCR office in Cairo to protest how the international organization neglected them . After many complaints of the residents in the neighborhood On December 30th,2005 the sit in was dispersed by extremely violence resulting in the death of 27 refugees and 100s of injured. “According to the official numbers”
Of course two former police officers I met today told me that Ibrahim was not the only man responsible for this massacre and that he could not be the sole decision maker  because we had got the state security and central security forces as well the intelligence in that fiasco.
I remember the accident like yesterday and remember all that discussions and debates about the refugees and use of violence . I can not believe myself it has been 10 years not to mention the resemblance with the debate about Tahrir square sits in and the use of violence !!!
I think this is a set back with Sudan whether it was the North or the South !! Not to mention I can’t imagine how this man will end any future sit in in any place in Egypt !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The problem is that there is no police general with clean record to hold this ministry and honestly I will not live in revolutionary dreamy ivory tower and say that SCAF should appoint a civilian to control the ministry nor that SCAF should appoint an army man because in other way we can have a mutiny in the police force.
I do not know really how to deal with ministry of hell. Sometimes I think we do not need a minister of interior and that we can replace it with the supreme council of police that would follow the prime minister or the minister of justice !? I just do no know.
Anyhow aside from all the troubles the ministry of interior facing from terrible reputation , Ibrahim is facing another trouble which is his own legacy. The human rights organizations are bringing back the file of Mustafa Mahmoud massacre again to life.
Now interesting info from Islamist scholar Fadel Soliman about the minister of interior

لي صديق عمل مع وزير الداخلية في الشرطة من ١٥سنة قال لي أنه يكره أمن الدولة عمى لأنهم ظلموه. نظيف اليد. لكنه دموي في الجنائي و هو صاحب قرارWed Dec 07 20:29:20 via Twitter for iPhone
I got a friend who worked for the new minister of interior from 15 years ago , he told me that Ibrahim hates State security so because they treated him unjustly. He is financially uncorrupted  but he is quite bloody violent when it comes to criminal investigation and he is a decision maker.

Regarding Major General El Mullah statements

$

General Major El Mullah , the SCAF member had a meeting with foreign media last Wednesday night. He had a press meeting with exactly 4 American journalists including dear Kristin Chick and 1 one British journalist , dear Jack Shenker.

Of course next day the press meeting and what General El Mullah said to the foreign journalists made headlines around the globe , raised concerns and made the Muslim brotherhood represented in the Freedom and Justice party withdrew from that advisory council formed by SCAF from political powers and parties yesterday.

Now here is what Kristin Chick in the Christian Science Monitor and what Jack Shenker wrote in the Guardian about the press meeting and what El Mullah says.

Now here is what I think about what El Mullah : This meeting was a pathetic attempt to calm down the West that the Islamists will not take over Egypt in the most stupidest idiotic way ever !!!! El Mullah wanted to calm down the West as well the freaking out liberal and secular powers and parties in Egypt that the army will not let the Islamists won.

El Mullah said that the parliament does not represent Egyptian people while the other generals in the past two were urging people to go and vote because this is the parliament that will represent them !! Not to mention all the SCAF talk in the past two week was how they were proud with the high turn out in the elections and the Egyptian people are the greatest voters in the world to the end !!

El Mullah and the generals seem to be living in the 1970s as they think that what they say to the West will not reach to Egypt in matter of seconds of its broadcast !!

And actually in this stage the army budget is not on my mind now , it is another battle not needed in this current stage.

Now regarding the Muslim brotherhood move and how they withdrew from the council , well I respect it very much because honestly I think they will bring balance. If you want to see how the different in power between the MB and Salafists or any other political party including the liberal parties represented in Masryeen Al Ahrar and Al Wafd , just see how the MB withdrew from the advisory council. The Nour party , Maryeen Al Ahrar and Al Wafd parties have representatives in the council and they did not leave it. The Nour party did not leave because it is not ready to have stand against SCAF regarding democracy because other than it has got candidates who despise democracy , they know that they do not have the same power or the experience of MB to have this stand. It is worth to mention that the Nour party lost about 20 seats in the run offs mostly against the MBs.

By the way you must know officially the advisory council’s so called legislative role will end when the parliament with lower and upper houses start their first stage. Already I do not think that the advisory council will reach anything when we have the Nour party and Naguib Sawiris in one place.

You also must know that just like El Mullah, according to two trusted sources some military representatives met with Banks’ CEOs in Egypt from two weeks and calmed them down that the economic system in Egypt will not be touched. Of course the Salafists as well the Socialists will not like this. The Muslim brotherhood economic program is semi-neo liberal so there is no fear from them like the Salafists who claimed that will transfer the banks in Egypt in to Islamic banks.

Am I afraid from the military junta to turn against democracy transition like in 1954 ? Well I am not that afraid but let’s say I am concerned not only about them but other political forces as well including the young revolutionary groups as well.  I am not afraid because let’s just say with all the disasters and mistakes they have committed , SCAF is not as wicked or smart as the free officers in 1954. Again Mubarak learned the lesson since getting rid of Abu Ghazla or rather since getting rid of Sadat to be accurate.

Mubarak has killed the political intelligence in this country without doubt.

By the way I do not know why some people are dying to see the Algeria Scenario or the Libyan Scenario or the Syrian scenario taking place in Egypt including some of the radical revolutionaries “mostly young” who think that it is better to build from zero as if Egypt is a new nation that only united and took its independence in 1960s !!!!!

One thing I know that regardless what if I truly love Egypt , I should avoid as much as possible with all the power I have got those scenarios and use God’s greatest gift to the human : My mind to think , think , think. Revolutionary emotions are not enough to run a state and this is why Guevara failed as a minister.

Side note : Now the guardian got an Arabic section now.

Syrian Revolution : It is not longer warning , there is a massacre in #Homs “Graphic”

There is on going massacre taking place in the city of Homs , it is not a warning by Syrian opposition anymore and unfortunately this massacre was partially transferred on air in Al Jazeera through the social network living broadcast before the electricity was cut off in the various parts in the city of Homs especially in Bab Amr area.

There has been currently an offensive launched by the Syrian forces to crack down the revolutionaries in the city that defied El Assad regime for months now since last Ramadan. Bab Amr and Khalidiya are being shelled by the security forces according to the news coming from there.

Here are videos allegedly uploaded from the city today showing the offensive earlier in various party of the famous city.

Homs : El Assad soldiers target buildings RPJ

Here is a protest in Hawla town in Homs governorate being dispersed by force today. Hawla witnessed several massacres this year.

Here is an attempt by the security forces to disperse the protesters in Al Hamra area in Homs from protesting.

Homs : Protest in Al Hamara

From an hour ago reports came that 20 have been killed today in Syria so far : 11 in Homs , 5 in Idlib , 5 in Inkhil , 5 in Sanamian ,1 in Hama and 1 in Doma. According to Homs Revolution News Facebook News page there are 3 kids that have been killed in Homs and one kid from Sanamian in Daraa governorate. The page has published the names of the martyrs that were killed today so far in Syria.

The video shows one of the children that have been killed today in his home in Homs may Allah bless his soul , 10 years old Maher El Hussein from Bab El Saba. “Extremely Graphic”

Homs : Late Maher El Hussein

Here is another graphic video from Homs showing three martyrs in hospital today I think including another kid.

Homs : 3 martyrs including a child

Here is a shocking video from Doma showing how the people there could not come out of the homes to get the body of their martyrs because of the constant gunfire of security forces.

Doma : Afraid to collect back the martyr’s body

There are also a lot of injured due to the attack of the security forces , here is a graphic video showing a young man shot in the hospital allegedly today after leaving the mosque in the Karam El Zaiton area."Extremely graphic +18”

Homs : A wounded from Karm El Zaiton area

Despite the offensive of the El Assad security forces, the brave Syrians are having protests through out the city. You can think the old Non Baath flag is officially adopted in every protest in Syria and outside it.

This video below was allegedly filmed and uploaded from Homs , from Karm El Zaiton area today. Today’s protest was being called “The strike of dignity Friday”

@5:00 Cairo local time

There are heavy rains in Homs , I think this will stop the offensive for awhile. According to the latest news coming from Homs the number of martyrs in Syria today has increased to 30 , half of them in Homs

There are on going protests also in Reef Dimshaq , Daraa, Latakia , Idlib , Palmyra , Hama and Aleppo as well. According to Syrian friends the turnout of the protesters was high today despite the cold weather.

Palmyra : A protest in the city of Zeinobia

Aleppo : A protest in Adanan
Idlib : A protest in Idlib
Hama : A protest in Tiba El Emam

I hope that Barbara Walters goes to Syria next week and ask Bashar El Assad again on who is attacking the civilians of Homs and killing their children now !!  Babs has the golden opportunity of interview another Arab dictator after Saddam, Mubarak and Qaddafi for ABC News. Amazingly in the interview I see another Arab ruler living in complete isolation , in an ivory tower other than that how on earth he would say boldly to her that most of the people who were killed were his supporters  !!!!  Babs described him right when she said that he was disconnected and not crazy.

Of course Babs forgot to interview the real manic who runs the Syrian Arab army death machine Maher El Assad !!

And Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich has called the Palestinians are invented people in an interview with the Jewish channel !!

The Jewish channel : The Palestinians are invented people !!

Interesting the Palestinians are Arabs and part of the Arab community !!

It does not surprise me because Gingrich is from the most outspoken politicians in the States against Muslims and Arabs.

It does not surprise me because it is normal at the American presidential race that candidates kiss the AIPAC’s ass !! This is just the start.

Already I do not understand how this man can be the next president of the States while having relations with Muslims and Arabs not to mention how he is going to treat Muslims in the

Here is more historical background about the Palestinians , the name of Palestine, Canaan

By Gingerish’s standards and definition of “Invented people” the Americans are also, after all they are in the end a group of immigrants who came from all over the globe to live in land that from 200 years ago was lived and owned by native Indians !!

Speaking about Gingerish will bring us to Islamophobia , TLC has a new interesting Reality TV called All American Muslim which is about the life of different Muslim families in the city of Dearborn in Michigan

TLC : All American Muslim

Now retail giant Lowe’s and Home Depot have pulled their ads from the shows by the request of the infamous conservative Florida Family association as the association believes the show has a hidden agenda to destroy American values !!!! I thinks toddles and tiaras show is much more dangerous on the American values than this show !!

#egyelections : The final results of the first stage

$

0

And here are the final results of the first stage from the parliamentary elections in Egypt after the rerun offs that were held last week in 9 governorates , you can check the results of the first results without the runoffs here.

  • The Muslim brotherhood’s FJ party got 36 single seats and 44 lists seats.
  • The Nour party bloc got 6 single seats and 28 list seats
  • The Egyptian bloc got 2 single seats and 16 list seats
  • The Revolution continues got 3 single seats and 4 list seats
  • El Wafd party got 1 single seat and 11 list seats
  • El Wasat got 4 list seats
  • El Adl got 1 single seat
  • Reform and Development party got 2 list seats
  • The Freedom party got 1 single seat and 1 list seat
  • Nationalist Misr party got 1 single seat and 1 list seat
  • The independent candidates got 2 single seats.

The total single seats in the first stage excluding the Sahal constituency in Cairo are 54 single seats whether professional or labor/farm seats.

The total lists seats in the first excluding the Sahal constituency are 112 seats. Of course I am still clueless about the lists seats calculations , I feel so stupid.

Here is a very important graph by dear Hany Rasmy and Evan Hill for the final result of the first stage of Egyptian parliamentary elections.

First of all there are certain remarks about the results of the rerun offs :

  • The Muslim brotherhood won the majority
  • The Salafists lose in front of the Muslim brotherhood.
  • The liberals began to have a good chance in the elections by uniting their efforts and votes behind single candidate.
  • We need the breakdown of the single seats and by this I mean the labor/peasant seats
  • People are not naïve but rather search for good candidate they know and the best example for this is in Port Said on how El Badry Farghaly, the famous leftist labor activist has won the labor single seat there against his Salafist rival despite the terrible campaign he was facing.
  • The lists seats are helping the parties without doubt especially the Muslim brotherhood because knowing my people and how they do not get that system easily , I know many have chosen and will choose the Muslim brotherhood because they know them.
  • The Nour party has paid the price of its members radical statements in the media , it has lost about 20 seats. Of course now they have launched a counter campaign trying not to scare the people from them especially the tourism sector that does not deny its sector to the Egyptian bloc.
  • The MB and Salafists depend in the country side and Upper Side as it seems.
  • The myth of the NDP’s control is exposed worldwide.
  • We need a breakdown for the votes outside Cairo in order to know the power not only the Salafists or MB but for all parties , it is the simplest thing if we are going to speak about partisan life

RIP Ahmed Bahgat

Late Ahmed Bahgat "1932-2011"
Egypt , the Arab and Muslim world have lost today one of the best writers and journalists ever , the Arab literature has lost today another giant and that giant’s name was Ahmed Bahgat.
Ahmed Bahgat was born on November 15th,1932 in Cairo. Despite he was graduated from the faculty of law , Cairo university he started his long career in journalism in Akhbar Al Youm newspaper in 1955 before moving to Sabah Al Kheir magazine in 1957 then to Ahram newspaper in 1958 where he worked there till death.
My generation knows Ahmed Bahgat as a novelist and a columnist , as a sarcastic critic and a poetic Sufi
Bahgat had that daily column in the second page of Daily Ahram newspaper which millions read and followed everybody including me that used to be called “Sandok El Donia” or “The Universe’s box” where he spoke about everything as I recall especially religion from a Sufi perspective.
Bahgat also wrote the script of a short daily radio show “Kilmitein Wa Bass” {Two words} that used to be narrated by Fouad El Mohandes in early morning which we used to hear when we were in our way to school and our parents were in their way to their work. The show used to criticize sarcastically the conditions in Egypt.
His book “Allah’s prophets” is still one of the best selling books in Egypt , Dar Al Shorouk publishing house printed from it 36 editions. Bahgat wrote the stories of prophets starting with Adam and ended by prophet Mohamed peace upon them from the Holy Quran perspective. He dedicated this book to Archangel Gabriel.
His  book “The stories of animals in the Holy Quran” for children was another best selling in Egypt and the Arab world and was translated to French and German. It was presented in animated series last Ramadan. It is about the stories of the animals mentioned in the Holy Quran like Prophet/King Solomon's hoopoe and Prophet Jonah’s whale.
Bahgat wrote for children this simplified series of illustrated Prophets’ stories with the help of legendary illustrator and cartoonist Mustafa Hussien , I am from the generation who had these stories.
Unlike what you think Bahgat  wrote wonderful books as well columns about Sufism and Sufi poetry like “Love for Sufis”
Ironically today we are celebrating the centennial of our famous Naguib Mahfouz and unfortunately after this sad news I can’t celebrate , I just can’t May Allah bless their souls both.

Happy Birthday Kefaya :)

On that date from seven years ago the Egyptian movement for change “Kefaya” did the unthinkable ; it held a public protest against the Mubarak rule and his son’s succession plan at the supreme court in Cairo.
#Jan25 New Hope
Taken on January 25, 2011
There is no doubt that Kefaya played a critical role in our Egyptian revolution as the movement that managed to break all the taboos , that fear barrier to stand united despite all political differences and background against Mubarak’s dictatorship and his fearful police state.
Kefaya is without doubt the mother movements of all political movements in Egypt after 2005 including April 6th Youth movement. Kefaya was not only inspiring movement in Egypt but also to other movements in Arab countries when I remember including Yemen.
I can’t do anything except sending my greetings and wishing to the Egyptian movement for change and its members like George Isaac , Abdel Halim Kandil , Magdy Hussein ,Karima Hefny, Abdel Galil Mustafa and the amazing late Abdel Wahab El Messiry.
I hope that we learn an important lesson from the Kefaya’s experience : unity.
Happy birthday Kefaya.
Thank you Kefaya.

It is a wonderful world indeed

Today Tunisia has had a new president , its 4th elected president Moncef Marzouki and first one after the revolution. Marzouki has sworn in today in front of the constitutional council.
Please watch Marzouki while he was addressing the council and the public in a historical amazing speech.
Tunis : Marzouki’s speech after swearing in
Here are highlights of what President Marzouki :
  • President Marzouki says that the upcoming constitution will persevere the rights of all Tunisians.
  • President Marzouki promised to protect veiled and non veiled ladies in Tunisia.
    • President Marzouki prayed for Syria , Yemen and Palestine’s liberation from domestic and foreign occupation.
    • President Marzouki cried when he mentioned the martyrs and wounded of the Tunisian revolution.
    • President Marzouki announced that he resigned from his party “CPR” as he become a president for the country.
    • It is not vengance period in Tunisia
There is no doubt that Marzouki has raised the bar for all the Arab presidents and kings starting with Egypt.
Here is a shot showing Rashid Amar saluting the new president of Tunisia , of course you can imagine the level of comments from Egypt and the comparison between the Egyptian army and Tunisian army.

Field Marshal Tantawy has sent a telegram to congratulate President Marzouki today.
Here is a moment when President Marzouki enters the Carthage palace.
Tunis : Marzouki arrives to Carthage palace
I can’t believe that from less than a year I was blogging about Tunisian revolution !!
By the way contrary to what it is being said , Marzouki divorced his French wife from ten years ago. He is also the first president from human rights activism background as well a blogger.
Now strangely there was an opposition against Marzouki mainly as he was not elected directly by the people but by constitutional council.
I am happy for Tunisia and little jealous despite I know when it comes to democratic transition and reforms Egypt is indeed not Tunisia thanks to huge difference between both countries. I think many Arabs envy Tunisia today.
Still knowing the circumstances of every Arab country , I believe Tunisia was the fastest in reforms thanks to the high education level and the bitter fact that Tunisia compared to Egypt , Syria and Yemen as well Bahrain has not got all these international and regional powers affiliations and deep rooted corruption.

    There is always hope.
Yesterday the general prosecutor has decided to refer the Maspero Clashes case from the Supreme state security court “which actually sucks , no appeals but rather presidential pardons” to normal civilian courts.
This is a huge good step.
Now today Alaa and other 27 defendants accused in the Maspero clashes arrived to a civilian court in Heliopolis where the judge has interrogated each defendant alone to reach for decision whether he would renew their detention for 15 days pending investigation or not.
From two hours ago we know through twitter that the judge has finished the interrogation with 18 defendants and that there are still 10 defendants to be interrogated. The judge will supposedly issue his rule by the end of the day !!
Now there is extremely good development in Alaa’s case as the prosecution has dropped two charges from the six charges he is currently facing : Incitement and Congregating.
The good thing is that Alaa’s defense team has got strong evidence to prove his innocence from the remaining charges including the theft of military’s arms. The defense team has presented to
The interrogations should be finished at 10 PM Cairo local time.
Alaa met his son Khaled for the first time last week and hopefully insh Allah he will return home by the end of his week.
Here is a video filmed by a group of activists showing Alaa and the rest of the defendants at the court earlier today.
Cairo : Alaa at the Court.
Insh Allah we will hear good news tonight about Alaa.
By the way PM Ganzoury announced today in a press conference the official numbers of Maspero clashes casualties : 31 martyrs and 292 injured.
    Updated :
The judge has renewed the detention , Alaa and the rest of the defendants will be detained another 15 days pending investigation.

    #Egyelections : Second stage

The second stage of the parliamentary elections will kick off tomorrow Wednesday and Thursday “Nov 14th and Nov15th” insh Allah in 9 governorates.
Here are the 9 governorates of this stage :
There are 3,387 candidates across the 9 governorates competing for 180 seats in this stage. “2,271 are competing for 60 individual seats while 1,116 are competing over 120 lists seats”
According to CAPMAS the eligible voters in the 9 governorates in this stage are more than the eligible voters in previous stage by 1.3 million.
The lists seat elections have been adjourned to 21st and 22nd of December in the second constituencies in Beheira and Mounfia governorates as well the first constituency in Sohag governorate due to legal problems.
The runoffs will be on 21st and 22nd of December 2011.

    Now regarding Monufia :

The hardcore NDP governorate and the factory of our two last presidents and endless number of ministers and commanders the rivalry is amazingly between FJ party and the Misr nationalist party , late Talaat Sadat party.
The Misr nationalist party is actually another NDP orphan party , many of the NDP members joined after the suspension of their pathetic party. It is worth to mention that among its member Tawfik Okasha who is running for the parliament in Mansoura  in up coming  the third stage.
According to CAPMAS there are about 2.2 million eligible voters in Monufia.

    Moving to Suez :

Despite being one of the most important industrial governorates in Egypt with huge labor and political activism , the Salafists are having an advantage there represented in other than the legendary Sheikh Hafiz Salamah. I think the Revolution continues has a good chance there thanks to the young activists in Suez.
There are about 355,000 eligible voters in Suez.
Upper Egypt is now divided by FJ party and Al Nour party from what I understood. The eligible voters in the Upper Egypt’s governorates in this stage are 2.3 million.

    To Giza :

Insh Allah I will vote tomorrow in the 2nd constituency in Giza. Giza governorate is  one of the biggest and diversified governorates in the country ,  4.2 million eligible voters should head to the polling stations tomorrow. In my constituency you got a cross section of Egypt from working class to middle class to upper middle class respected in Imbaba , Agouza and Dokki. Imbaba or aka the Imbaba republic we are speaking not less than half million alone.
The top rivals over the professional seat in my constituency is none other than Dr. Amr El Shobaki and Dr. Amr Darrag . El Shobaki , the famous political analyst and researcher , writer and Kefaya member is running against the Freedom and justice party’ general secretary in Giza. It is considered another liberal vs.Islamist race
The revolution continues coalition got a very good opportunity in Giza this time as two of its famous faces like Khalid Talimah and Islam Lotfy.
The young revolution continues began to be exposed in the media as well to attract more interest and endorsement from public personalities. Here is a video made by a group of public personalities “ Actor Khaled Abu Naga , TV host Mahmoud Saad , Director Mohamed Diab and actor Asser Yassin” encouraging people to vote for the revolution continues. This ad is directed by Amr Salama and is written by journalist and activist Amr Ezzat.
    The Revolution continues ad
The Egyptian bloc continues in its terrible ad strategy insisting that it is a coalition against sectarianism  and that it wants equal treatment while its leaders are swearing by God in the media that 90% of the Egyptian bloc members are Muslims !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have received a SMS Spam from Egyptian bloc this week and it turns out the Mobinil users in the 9 governorates in this stage received it. Of course Mobinil is owned by none other than Naguib Sawiris !!
    Egyptian Bloc SMS Ad
There are conflicting reports till the last hour about coalitions between the Egyptian bloc and the revolution continues , it is not clear for up till now. Anyhow the Revolution continues issued a list on their supported candidates and lists , amazingly from all parties.

Of course it is worth to mention as a voter I had enough from these cars roaming the streets with loud speakers calling us to vote for candidate X or candidate Y with no respect to the people.
The FJ party is wild , furious and wise in its coverage. Its volunteers with laptops took their positions outside the mosques and shooting club helping the citizens to find their polling stations and distributing fancy flyers like this one about the role of the member of parliament in the upcoming stage.
    Fj Party flyer elections 2011
Amr Darrag , the general secretary of FJ party knows how to play politics going to cafes and speak with the people especially from the Upper middle class who are not fond of FJ party. It is worth to mention that the Doa’a El Salaifya’s candidate withdrew from the race to support Darrag. The Nour party did not withdraw its candidate though
On the other hand Egyptian bloc’s candidate has withdrew from the race to support Shobaki . I wish that the revolution continues did the same instead of support two on the professional seat !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When it comes to lists seat , we got the FJ party list , the revolution continues , the Nour party , Egyptian bloc and the Wasat party list that got our favorite Tahrir ex-footballer Nader El Siyad on the top of the list.
I think the Nour party may get votes in Imbaba.
Tahrir newspaper has published a list with the NDP ex-members running in the elections in Giza.
And people are still searching for a good candidate for labor seat up till now including me !!
@11:10 PM candidate Mohamed Mohamed Oraby has broken the electoral campaign silence and had this annoying car roaming our neighborhood in order to vote for him tomorrow !!
@11:28 PM member in Al Masryeen Al Ahrar has a dangerous claim against FJ party

And the race is on in 9 governorates , our elections’ second stage has kicked off in 9 governorates and we wonder if there will be a high turn out this time like the first time or not. Regardless of the moderate turnout , there is less campaigning outside the polling stations at least in most areas in Giza.

Starting from early morning and there have been mixed reports about the turnout in the 9 governorates yet without doubt it it is not high like the first stage but we should take in consideration that people are not rushing to polling stations for fear of delay and thus are delaying it either to later time later today or tomorrow.
Of course this time I could not do a live update like the previous one because this time I was your voting girl who stained her finger with a blue ink after casting her vote.

At first I headed to the Kommia language school polling station in Agouza to see the turnout , the Kommia polling station can be a good indicator . I found a long queue of ladies waiting for their turn.
    DSC01620

I found Ahmed Mortada Mansour leaving the polling station after checking it from outside in his black jeep and he did not seem happy , may be he knew that that offensive video clip showing him calling his rivals bad names in meeting with his team found a way online.
     DSC01623
Ahmed Mortada Mansour addresses his team !!

There were candidates’ banners hanged outside the polling there up till today.
I head to my polling station where I found inside the polling stations 3 long , very long queues of ladies representing a real cross section of Egyptian society
whether from class or age or background or culture. I even saw a baby girl brought by her mom. There were old ladies who were helped by policemen and military police , they were let in first.
    DSC01639
After about 15 minutes or 25 minutes I was inside in front of the ballot box. The judge saw my ID card and I already knew my number in the list and I signed my name with a big fuss.
Unlike any election I voted in or saw in time of Mubarak , it was organized. Of course I was given an extremely big ballot paper for the individual seat with too many names to the level that I kept searching for the pictorial symbols !! The list seat ballot paper was small.
I chose Dr. Amr Shobaki in the professional seat and Mohamed Taha for the labor seat. I also voted for the revolution continues for the list seat. I hope my vote will help them because they are facing tough competition.
I voted behind some sort of voting booth for the first time.
I found three girls siting in the voting hall , they were not telling anybody who were voting just collecting counting the ladies who went and vote.
There was a lot of talk about politics and candidates the ladies I met in the polling station all agree that there should not be one big bloc controlling the parliament or in other words the Muslim brotherhood's freedom and justice And here is the golden moment. Voting girl : Blue finger edition

In my way to work I passed by two polling stations there are not that full including the Kommia school polling station again. I saw candidate Hisham Mongy outside the polling station in Kommia school.

Moving to the rest of the governorates :

Here is former Prime minister Esssam Sharaf voting in a polling station in Dokki district, Giza. Former first lady Jihan has voted as well
The American ambassador Paterson has visited a polling station in Dokki district ,Giza earlier this morning as well. It is worth to mention that a team from Carter's center with HEC in Cairo.
Ironically the FJ party is accusing Egyptian bloc of campaigning outside the polling stations in Ismailia in a statement their elections operation room has issued from short time ago. Their website also report violations committed by Wafed party in Sharkia.
Since last night the Egyptian bloc accuses FJ party of elections fraud.

    @2:11 PM Cairo local time

A special elections committee is heading to Torah prison so Alaa Abdel Fatah can vote. It is great news but I wonder if other detainees including the Mubaraks and the rest of their gang will vote.
The military appeal court had sentenced Maikel Nabil two years in jail and the Free Egyptians party has announced its support to Nabil demanding his release. Despite defending the freedom of speech as part of liberalism regardless of what you think about Nabil , this is a political suicide for the FEP now especially the Egyptian Bloc is currently being defamed badly in the Egyptian society by Islamist

    @4:24 PM Cairo local time

Several fights between the FJ party and Nour party in several governorates.
Alaa Abdel Fatah is going to vote tomorrow at Torah prison.
There are several polling stations in Giza , Sharkia , Monufia.
A voter was wounded in a gunshot in Ismailia from short time ago in a fight at some village among the supporters of two rival candidate , it's unclear who these candidates are.

@ 6 PM Cairo Local time

People began to appear again in the polling stations in Giza , after finishing their work I suppose. The HCE has extended the voting process till 9 PM.

Most violations I read today was from Nour party when it comes to campaigning outside the polling stations. There was a lot of fight between the the Nour party and FJ party aside from the old fight between the FJ party and the Egyptian bloc.

Language of Numbers : 69 political prisoners

PM Kamel El Ganzouri held a press conference on last Tuesday where he stated the following interesting numbers :

    • 20,103 political prisoners have been released from February 2011 till this week.
    • 68 political prisoners are currently in jail.
    • 47 out of these 68 political prisoners are sentenced
    • 13 out of these 68 political prisoners are sentenced to death
    • 8 out of these 68 political prisoners are being investigated.

Ok without doubt that most of these political prisoners were Islamists who finished their sentences from years or even decades ago but I do not understand why the courts can’t revise the cases of those 68 political prisoners again.

Anyhow from over 20,000 to 68 ,  I think this is great achievement.

Regarding the military trials, according to the latest official numbers there are about 4600 civilians imprisoned in civilian jails after being prosecuting in front of military trials since last January 2011.

And I thought we would be enjoying a quiet Friday after tiring week of elections , but what you know we are back to the bloody Fridays !!
Starting from last night clashes started between the military police and protesters at the cabinet street resulting in a violent dispersion for the #Occupycabinet sit in after a verbal fight between an Ultras member and a military police officer.According from what I understand from different versions , the MP officer and his conscripts after the verbal fight detained the young member and beat the crap out of him then released him. The boy is fine and he is still alive by the way at the hospital contrary to the rumors. Of course the incident made the protesters at the sit in angrier and many more protesters joined them especially from the Ultras. In the morning hell broke loose as the military police personnel took the rooftops of the buildings and began to throw rocks , ceramic pieces and even pieces of furniture at the angry protesters. On the ground the military police to attacked the protesters in a brutal way with batons and sticks including old ladies.Photos and video clips showing terrible attacks of girls being dragged and beaten by merciless military personnel.
Of course I know in advance SCAF members will come and say that it is a Photoshop !!
According to the latest ministry of health reports 99 civilians are injured including injuries with live ammunition. There are currently two field hospitals operating once again in Tahrir square. One at Omar Makram mosque and the other at Kasr Al Dobra church. There are many head injuries as well eye injuries , people yet again have lost their eyes including teenagers.
Several activists were detained and beaten by military personnel before they were released like Mona And Sanaa Seif as well Nour Ayman Nour .
The advisory council will have an urgent meeting at 7 PM according to activist and businessman Ziad Ali. Moatez Abdel Fatah , Ahmed Khairy and Nadia Mustafa have resigned from the advisory Council objecting the brutal attack on the protesters.
MP Ziad El Alimy and MP Ziad Bahaa El Din as well MP Amr Hamzawy have filed a report in the public prosecution office against Tantawy and the cabinet. El Alimy was already attacked and beaten by military police personnel who did not give a damn that he was a member of parliament.
According to Minister Fazia Abu El Naga's twitter account "We are not sure that it is official thought" PM Ganzoury finished his work at 2 PM and left from the temporary HQ of the cabinet. Allegedly Abu El Naga claimed that Ganzoury knew about the attack since 11 am and did nothing because it is an army issue. It is worth to mention that Ganzoury got presidential powers except when it comes to army issue and judiciary issues. Nevertheless I feel there is something about Abu El Naga's tweet.
Mohamed Elbaradei attacked the brutal dispersion of protests On twitter as well Ayman Nour and Hamdeen Sabhi.
One thing for sure the police and the MOI is away from the scene and they are happy that the army is now the bad guy.
MY own explanation for what's happening right now in Tahrir as I see it is it a pathetic attempt to stop the elections especially after the advance of the Islamists.Other than I can not find a reason because simply the army could stop the clashes right away. Still I can not get over the mixed signals we got from SCAF because simply if they want to cancel the elections they would have adjourned or cancelled right after the Mohamed Mahmoud battles !!! Is SCAF divided and we are having some sort internal coup ?? I do not know but I am sure that the 1954 scenario can not be dismissed.
I am already sick and suffering from the usual low blood pressure ,I can not move my head from the headache. All what I can do is praying for my country and people.

    @10:46 Cairo Local time :

According to the ministry of health report : 222 are injured and there are 5 dead cases.

Among those who were killed and joined our martyrs this year : Sheikh Emad Effat may Allah bless soul , Effat was the grand  Mufti’s chief of staff. Sheikh Ali Gomaa has arrived to the Kasr El Aini hospital. Late Sheikh Effat had a gunshot in his heart. Here is a graphic shot show late Sheikh Effat after he was shot.

“The photo is by Khaled El Baramawy who is the cousin of Sheikh Emad’s widow Nasha Abdel El Tawab who works in Ahram Weekly”

Sheikh Effat was among the progressive Sheikhs from what I hear and he joined the protests in Tahrir since day one in January. For 4 days ago he joined the sit in at the cabinet according to Fadel Soliman.

Late Sheikh Effat in late July sit in.

There is also later Dr.Alaa Abdel Hady who was killed also today by a gunshot. Young Abdel Hady was a student in the fifth year in the university and he was among the doctors of Tahrir square in the field hospital.

He should be in his way to Aswan in a vacation today and instead he was shot dead.

Here are photos from the clashes by Sarah Carr

Here are photos from the clashes by Maggie Osama who was injured in the clashes.

Lilian Wagdy has published couple of photos as well in her account but had not organized them in a set.

Here is a video showing the Ultras boy who is being said to be the man behind the clashes. one thing for sure , they beat the crap out of him !!

Cairo : Aboudi speaks about he faced

SCAF issued a short statement on TV claiming that the clashes started when the protesters attacked an officer in duty !!

On the other hand the cabinet will hold a meeting to discuss tomorrow what is taking place today. PM Ganzoury tweeted on his official new account that he feels sorry for the victims presenting his condolences to the families of the martyrs.

Here is a photo shown the marks of sticks on the body of Nour Ayman Nour.

Here is an interesting eye witness’ account about the past two days clashes.

Here is a video showing the clashes between 5 PM and 6 PM

Tahrir square : Clashes between 5 and 6 PM

The clashes are still on and that there is fire in the one of the old buildings following the ministry of transportation.

We thought things would calm down today but I think we were dreaming !! It is another bad nightmare that I want it to finish right now.
The latest number from the ministry of health : 9 dead and 361 injured in the official hospitals. Activists say there are about 200 injured outside the hospitals. I fear that tomorrow more people will be killed especially the number of the head injuries are terrible.
The army “military police units as well paratroopers units” stormed Tahrir square in early morning where it destroyed the field hospitals in the square as well the Kasr El Dobra church’s hospital. Doctors and patients were reportedly arrested. The military also stormed the flats where local and foreign channels rent for broadcast from Tahrir square including a flat rented by Democracy Now channel. The military police confiscated the cameras of the channels.
CBC channel recorded the moment the troops stormed the square but had to cut its on air broadcast later.
Tahrir : Army storming the square and attacking the protesters
Up till now there is no a real channel TV transferring what it is taking place properly.
Anyhow here is a clip by Tom Dale showing the moment of the attack.

Egyptian Army Storm Tahrir Square from Tom Dale on Vimeo.
The army has built another wall , this time at Kasr Al Aini street between the protesters and the cabinet yet the clashes have not stopped. Here is a photo showing the wall while it was being built by Bradley Hope

Journalist Joseph Mayton of Bikya Egypt has been detained by the security forces and transferred to the cabinet HQ where he was treated and beaten. Mayton told Manar Ammar that he was arrested by a group of citizens and later he was taken by the military police. The American embassy knows about Mayton but he may stay there for the nigh. He is detained along Hungarian journalist Mark Fodor. Mayton told Amar that he saw other Egyptian detainees treated badly at the cabinet HQ and there is a back room with over 70 injured detainees in it.
The military police has also stormed the HQ of El Adl party in Garden city after it chased some of its members in the street. The MP arrested about 8 members from El Adl member including 26 years university student Mohamed El Yemmany who was beaten badly. MP Mustafa Al Nagar is going
The chairman of the advisory council Mansour Hassan has threatened to resign today if the violence against the protests is not stopped. El Wasat party’s chairman Abu Ela Mady has already resigned in objection of the continuing attack on the protesters since the morning.

Mady is the 8th member from the advisory of council to resign after these attacks in the past 72 hours.
The Egyptian Scientific society building is on fire and it is totally destroyed on the verge of collapsing, it is one of the old buildings in Egypt , it was founded first by Napoleon in 1798 , then it was moved to that building in 1917. It includes  not less than 200,000 of the most oldest and rarest manuscripts , books and maps in Africa and the Middle East including one of the original versions of “The description of Egypt”
I wonder where the UNESCO is and where the Alexandria library is. Of course all parties are blaming each other whether the army or the protesters but the army is responsible of protecting that building which is more important than the cabinet HQ. Our scientific heritage is completely burnt and I think it is symbolic , our youth is killed , our scientific heritage is burned , our Sheikh is killed , our future is doomed. It is worth to mention that 95% of those in the street last night whether army units or protesters did not know what this building was and what it contained.
There is no hope for a nation its humans are treated like animals , There is no hope for a nation that does not respect its history or science just like nothing.
I am sorry but I can’t keep to myself otherwise I will be lying.

    @5:50 PM Cairo local time

The clashes are still going on and the people and the security are hurling stones and molotov , it is scary , I fear someone will be killed again tonight.
The Nour party believes that all this is an attempt to turn people against SCAF !! As expected from the Salafist party despite there are Salafi groups standing with the rest of the angry youth like the Costa guys.
The Freedom and Justice party’s has issued a statement condemning the attack and consider it as an attempt to sabotage the elections !!
I think the Muslim brotherhood is afraid to participate in anything for fear what happened to them in 1950s. SCAF has issued a statement claiming it was only attacking the thugs and that it would never attack any the revolutionaries and that the public prosecution is following the case.
It is even worse than Mohamed Mahmoud.

A funeral of a real good man , a martyr

Today was the funeral of Sheikh Emad Effat , the chief of grand Mufti’s staff and it was huge and great.
Sheikh Ali Gomaa led the funeral’s prayer that many activists attended as well normal people and sheikhs who chanted against SCAF loudly inside in Al Azhar mosque.
Here is the funeral as it was transferred on religious channel El Hekma.Strangely the Salafi trend icons were not there.

The family of the late Sheikh has called issued a statement where they promise to continue on the path of late Sheikh till the country is freed.
According to the latest report a new civilian was shot down by live ammunition. Now the death toll is 10 and more than 400 injured.
Here is a set of photos showing the clashes from Demotix.
The protesters are now trying to save the books at the Scientific society building , they are giving it to the army forces at the American embassy , I hope that the army forces do not destroy the books as some accusing them right now. There are one million book in the building including the original Taba map !!

Here is a photo showing the protester trying to put the fire down.
SCAF has started a video counter campaign showing some protesters setting a building on fire.

#Tahrir : Regarding the Scientific institute

The rooftop of the building which is going to collapse as excepted. I am not concerning about the building because insh Allah it will be re-built again just like the Shura council in no time. You must know that the real protesters plead to ask the security of the cabinet besides the institute to put off the fire but they laughed at the protesters !!

Some say that the fire started from inside , whether inside or outside I believe such important building was not less important the cabinet , if it were not more important than anything in the street aside from the geographical society and the parliament. It was the responsibility of SCAF to protect the building and its content.

The minister of culture Shaker Abdel Hamid has thanked the protesters and the revolution youth for saving the content of the institute.

#Tahrir : Saving the rare books

The protesters busted a group of thugs who tried to set the building again on fire and beat the crap out of them.

The AUC and Kasr Al Dobra church as well as the national archives of Egypt are demanding the protesters to bring them the manuscripts and books they found.

According to the ministry of Culture says that 2/3 of the books and manuscripts of the Egyptian Scientific institute were saved. We do not know if the original version of the Description of Egypt is burnet or not as we have a contradicting news. On one side we got the officials from the institute says that it was destroyed in the fire while on the other we find the general secretary of the people’s assembly claming that he has got the original version of the book along other books and manuscripts from the French invasion in his own private library !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????????

This man has got a book worth of LE 15 million in his private library along the first records of the people’s assembly !? Why and how !? Today I heard something very interesting that all the maps we got in the institutes are copies and the originals are actually in Turkey by the way.

A Fajr Newspaper journalist claimed today that he bought some of the manuscripts after the fire !!

Dr. Mahmoud Hafiz “100 Years old” , the head of the institute is currently in Coma from quite some time and he did not see what happened to Egypt.

According to one of the employees working in the institute , from two years ago following the fire of the Shura council the institute demanded a better fire fighting system but you can guess what was the answer !! Nothing at all.

Now activists are circulating two photos for who they believe an army conscript participating in setting the institute on fire accusing one of the conscripts who assaulted April 6 activist Ghada Kamel of being one of those vandals !! The photo is not inclusive though.

The army should pay for the reconstruction of this building just like it did with the Shura council.

The human soul is a holy thing and must be saved no one is disputing in this but now everybody is blaming the protesters on the fire of the institute , it is the trap from the other traps that were set up against them and they had to fall in it.

I know some accusing me and others who speak about the institute of ignoring the martyrs which is nonsense of course , I do not have anything to say or to defend myself except I do not want any people to die or injured or tortured , I go to sleep every night praying that no one gets killed or lose any eye.

And yes I love old books and history , anyone knows this blog well enough will know that.

The whole scene is so symbolic , our future is killed “Young protesters” , our moderate Islam is being killed “Sheikh Emad”, our rare history is burnet “The scientific institute” , our unity as a nation on the verge of division “ Army and police Vs. Protesters , People Vs. protesters , liberals Vs. Islamists ..etc”. We are waiting for a miracle.

Another symbolic is how we did not know Sheikh Effat like we know radical Sheikhs just like how 98% of the people did not know that this small old building was the most important library from historical perspective in Africa and in the Middle East. Science was lifted from earth to heaven on these bloody days

Nevertheless this institute will be built again and it will be filled with rare books again that will be restored , it will be back insh Allah just like mothers will give birth to babies as long as the sun rises on this nation that saw bloody days and nights more than this and we made it through , this is what history says in the old books.

The death toll has reached to 10 civilians and the injured have reached to 505 according to the official numbers of the ministry of health . Interestingly enough Ahram Arabic Portal today’s header featured the martyrs of the clashes in the past two days.
Today was the birthday of late Alaa Abdel Hady , today late Ahmed Mansour was supposed to receive his graduation certificate
Next January 25th will be the 40th day on his martyrdom along other martyrs including Sheikh Emad and activist Ahmed Mansour. The students of the Ain Shams university as well the students of Cairo university had march dedicated to late Abdel Hady. Tomorrow the faculty of economics and political science’s students in Cairo university will hold a strike objecting the violence against the protesters.
Here is a photo gallery from Sheikh Emad Effat’s huge funeral.
164 are now being accused in the clashes and the prosecution has began to investigate the case and to interrogate them including those injured in the hospitals. Scary thing is many of these defendants are very young in age. 16 defendants are being detained for 4 days pending investigation by the order of the public prosecutor. It seems that some of the doctors at Omar Makram field hospital are still detained.
One of the detainees has passed away in custody from his injuries , activists accuse the army and security forces of torture him in the cabinet HQ. There are children among the detainees from the street kids accused of throwing Molotov cocktails .
For the first time since the Mohamed Mahmoud street clashes , the central security forces are back in the Sheikh Rihan street at the ministry of interior. They had clashes with the protesters for a while where both hurled stones and glass as well Molotov cocktails at each other. The official media says that 3 police officers and 100 CSF conscripts injured in the clashes. Today there have been 58 injured among the protesters.
By the way I hear from a dear friend who works as professional photographer that cameras are being stolen in the square and nearby streets frequently.
More horrific testimonies from detainees especially ladies as well photos are surfacing online. Group of youth began to organize themselves and collect these photos and videos incriminating the army and spread this collection online and offline to gain support of Public opinion. Suggestion ranges from printing photos and posting them on walls to distributing them in work and in university even to Street.
Today issue of Tahrir newspaper has caused a lot of buzz as well of shock to many Egyptians.
    The Tahrir front page
Of course this is the picture of the day worldwide in the front page of major newspapers like NY Times , Sunday Mirror , Daily Mail and even Haartez.
Egyptians abroad and inside are not happy , shocked and ashamed.
Tomorrow at 10 AM SCAF will hold a press conference to speak about what happened ,of course they will have another presser to show photos and videos to prove their innocence in the most stupidest way ever.
I want this nightmare to end as peacefully , I want this nightmare to end without a disaster we will all regret afterwards, I do not want the next January 25th ,2012 to be cursed.
