Is not this conflict of Interest ?

Dr. Mohamed Morsy , the official presidential candidate of Muslim brotherhood in the presidential race and the leader of the Freedom and Justice Party has got two children that were born in California , United States.
According to all sources his children got the American citizenship.
Now Morsy is not the only one to have children or grandchildren with American citizenship because I think that Amr Moussa’s grandson is also a British citizen as his father Ahmed Ashraf Marwan got the British citizenship and his daughter lived in UK during their marriage. “They divorced later and Hania Moussa lives in Egypt
There is nothing in the current presidential elections law that speaks about the presidential candidates’ offspring nationality but one must wonder about their loyalty and the conflict of interest here especially when it comes to Morsy’s children and grandchildren as we are dealing with the American Egyptian very critical and complicated relationships here.
It is not about racism here but we need a direct answer and a guarantee that Egypt’s best interest will be above all.

And France has got a new president called #Hollande

Dear Egyptian chronicles readers meet France’s new president Françoise Hollande , the second socialist president to rule France after Francoise Mitterrand
President Hollande of France
The 24th President of France is a socialist and he won in the runoff of the French presidential elections by 51.9% of the votes.
Of course I will not deny that I am happy that Sarkozy has lost the elections , the dear friend of Mubarak.
What I care is now the Egyptian French Relations post revolution in time of new presidents , not only a new president as insh Allah hopefully we will have a new president in 3 months. We are speaking about economic relations , political relations as well military relations aside from cultural relations.
We used to have good relations with Mitterrand so I wonder how it will be the relations not only with Hollande but with Mr. X who will become Egypt’s fifth president insh Allah.
Now this is a fact that the Egyptian national TV announced that Hollande won before he was officially declared the winner in his own country by 40 minutes !!

#EgyElections : Presidential campaigns ads "Updated

Since the start of the presidential campaign officially since last week and we began to be showed with Presidential candidates TV ads in Egyptian TV channels.
In this post I will share with you the Egyptian presidential candidates by Alphabetic order and it will be updated as soon as there are new ads.
The ads are after the break

Abdel Moneim Abu El Fotoh :

Abdel Moneim Abu El Fotoh and his campaign aired thad ad that expressed about Abu El Fotoh program and promises to restore security in the first 100 days of his election and to make Egypt one of the strongest 20 countries in the world in the upcoming world.

He spoke about justice , about values , in nutshell he spoke about his program in few seconds in very strong voice and command.
Unlike other ads he spoke throughout it from the beginning to the end. I like the music used in the background.

Ahmed Shafik :

Ahmed Shafik and his campaign got one of Egypt's biggest and oldest advertising agencies to their side , Tarek Nour communications as after months of denial Tarek Nour turns to be a supporter of Shafik.I can't find it on YouTube but it is on Facebook

The ad's name : Ahmed Shafik , the leader and it simply stresses on his leading personality indirectly as a commender
After all he seemed to give him a very interesting discount for the price of this huge campaign whether on TV or in the streets when it comes to the billboards in the hottest spots in Cairo and Giza that normally worth millions.

Amre Moussa :

Amre Moussa and his campaign are speaking about the challenges are facing in Egypt showing people represented different segments and backgrounds from all over the country stressing that we will overcome these challenges if we elect the former popular FM who makes it sure that we will overcome these hardships.

Amre Moussa's ad is being mocked because it reminded people with another popular TV ad about margarine with his motto.

Mohamed Morsi :

Mohamed Morsi The Muslim brotherhood candidate who is only popular in the brotherhood and its faithful followers depend totally in their campaign about "Al Nahada" {Renaissance} economic presidential program to promote him against other candidate.
"We want a president" The first ad of Morsi says so adding that this president should be Morsi.

This ad reminds me with Amr Moussa's ad.
I like how it showed the Nubians , Sinai locals and disabled.
Of course I do not know why they only included veiled girls in the ads and showed one unveiled lady in a shot about Muslim Christian unity.

In this ad , it simply says "It is time to work" {I do not like it because it seems that we are wasting our time partying now} and ends with " Renaissance .. it is the well of the people"

Mohamed Salim El Awa :

Islamist presidential candidate Mohamed Salim El Awa's campaign motto is "With Justice Egypt will live" and his ads revolves about that motto.

This ad is speaking about equality and justice , the young man in the start of the ad is a singer called "Essaf" who won in some "American idol" style TV show from several years ago.

This ad highlights the Egyptian Nubians in Egypt and the need for justice , highlighting an ethnic minority that needs justice and got a very important cause in Egypt. It is too short though

I like how his ad highlighted the discrimination the local Bediouns in Sinai face but it is too short. It is extremely important because it speaks about an important problem for a marginalizing ethnic minority in Egypt.

This ad the campaign speaks about restoring our dignity as Egyptians abroad by highlighting the treatment of some Egyptians in some foreign airports and how the foreigners will be treated the same.

Now which ad do you like and why aside from the presidential candidates personalities.

Breaking : Administrative court suspends Presidential elections !!!!

Al Ahram newspaper has just reported on its official website that the administrative court in Qalubiya has issued a court ruling to suspend the Supreme presidential elections committee decision to hold the presidential elections next May 23rd and 24th !!
According from what I understand the administrative court saw that we can’t have presidential elections.

Updated #1 :

According to MENA this court ruling was taken because the one that should call the voters for elections is SCAF instead the Supreme presidential elections committee “SPEC”.
The government has the right to appeal the court rule tomorrow.
Lawyer Wael Bahget is the man who stands behind this surprising court ruling and from hearing him now on TV I know that he got Islamophobia.
I saved the country from civil war !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bahget said hinting out the warnings of Muslim brotherhood of going back to the street if there is electoral fraud as well the rage of Abu Ismail’s supporters.
People are extremely worried from delaying the presidential elections , we can’t be dragged to this trap. I am extremely worried already.
Of course now some people will curse the administrative court and considers it as an accomplice with SCAF in delaying the democratic transition after praising the administrative court order to suspend the decision of  presidential elections committee to have Shafik back in the presidential race !!
At the same time you will have that small group of boycotters will be very happy and think that people will go back to the revolutionary track.
I have reached a point already in this time in Egypt that I do not understand anything because simply makes any sense or any logic anymore !!

Updated #2 :

Now from the ministry of foreign affairs we know that the presidential elections will be held on Friday as it was decided there will be no delay in the elections.
As another source , this time a judge in the State commissioners following the administrative court says there will be no delay in the elections !!

Updated #3 :

SPEC has issued a statement on Thursday , the presidential elections will be held in time , nothing is going to be changed.

#Egyelections: The presidential candidates platforms

It is only 72 hours from the actual start of the presidential elections as Egyptians abroad will inaugurate officially the elections in the Egyptian embassies and consulates in all over the world on May 11th,2012.
Strangely despite the presidential elections will start after few hours and we have not seen any presidential platforms except from 7 presidential candidates "Abdel Moneim Abu El Fotoh ,Ahmed Shafik, Amre Moussa , Mohamed Morsi , Khlaed Ali , Hamdeen Sabbahi and Mohamed Salim El Awa" out of 13 candidates !!
Here are the Presidential candidates Platforms in Arabic arranged by the presidential candidates' names below after the break.
Here is Abu El Fotoh's platform. It is called "Strong Egypt"
Ahmed Shafik has just issued his presidential platform only on Thursday "10/5" and his campaign has not posted it yet on the campaign's official website  The only thing I know about it that it is called " The New Era , Better home for great nation"
Here is Moussa's platform that is called "Rebuilding Egypt"
Here is Hamdeen's Platform in his official website.
Here is Khaled Ali's platform that is called "Egypt, the revolution which I combined from his official website. It is made of three part , one about politics and economy in general , the second is about Egyptian agriculture in specific and the third is about environment.
Here is Morsi's platform , the famous "Renaissance platform" of the Muslim brotherhood"

Here is El Awa's platform in his official website and it is very , very short platform presented in single phrases in a drop-down menu !!!!!!!!!!!
The rest are technically sharing their platforms on TV shows and that's it. Now in general most platforms are similar but there are some difference for instance Morsi's platforms aka the MB's renaissance platform is a neoliberal where as Abu El Fotoh's economic platform leans little to the left but unlike leftist Khaled Ali when it comes to the economy. Hamdeen Sabbahi still calls Israel as the Zionist entity despite he makes it clear that he respects all the treaties and agreements Egypt signed including Camp David. Already all the candidates make sure of hinting out this point to calm down the majority of Egyptians before the international community. Khaled Ali is the only who spoke
The first hundred days in presidency is another common promise , you got Abu El Fotoh promising the people with security and stability in the first 100 days and Moussa promising the people that he will turn Egypt upside down in the first 100 days.
To be honest I have not read all these platforms till the end.
Abu El Fotoh , Amr Moussa and Mohamed Morsi got the same plans when it comes to Sinai.
They are all stress on justice , democracy , transparency and security not to mention achieving #Jan25 Revolution goals.
Now here is little poll regarding the Presidential platforms

#Egyelections : Egyptians abroad to Vote Tonight

Egyptians abroad will start officially the Egyptian presidential elections race starting from tonight based on each country’s timing when they start to choose the presidential candidates and cast their votes in the first multi-candidates presidential elections held in Egypt after the revolution of #Jan25.

Now to the language of numbers :

  • According to SPEC 586,801 Egyptians abroad have registered to vote in the presidential elections in 166 countries.
  • The top ten countries Egyptians have registered from are : Saudi Arabia “261,924” , Kuwait “119,234”, UAE “61,427” , Qatar “32,836” , USA “27,3219” , Canada “11,892” , Italy “10,038”, Oman “9109” , Britain “6,225” and France “5925”
  • Here is the guidelines and procedures of elections guidelines for Egyptians abroad by SPEC.

Now Egyptians in Eastern USA can go to the official website of the Egyptian consulate In New York city to the follow the presidential elections voting procedures.

Egyptian community members in Kuwait report that the Egyptian ambassador there refused to let a local Kuwaiti NGO to observe the Presidential elections to observe the elections despite it was granted the right to observe the elections before in Egypt and in other countries. Of course this NGO may have not granted the right to observe the elections from SPEC and not the embassy. Still according to tweep Hossam El Amir there are no transparent boxes for elections in the embassy.

The Presidential candidates are trying to reach for the Egyptians abroad vote. Some presidential candidates have already travelled and met some members of Egyptian communities in several Arab and European in the past months since 2011 like Hisham El Bastawisi , Abu El Fotoh and Amr Moussa.

Mohamed Morsi of the Muslim brotherhood addressed the Egyptians abroad in video message in English and please do not ask me why Morsi would address them in English !!

Mohamed Morsi addresses Egyptians abroad.

From two days ago there was a meeting between the representatives of Egyptian abroad and members of the Egyptian community in New York.

Some may predict that based on the results of the parliamentary elections of “2011-2012” and the fact that Egyptians in the gulf registered more than in any country that most of the votes will go to the Islamists especially to Muslim brotherhood’s Mohamed Morsi. I hate to say just like back home , nobody does to which lucky candidate most of the votes in the first round will head to.

Now I must remind you that one of the biggest democratic achievements of January 25th Revolution that we should not forget was restoring the right of Egyptians abroad to vote. I really want to thank those Egyptian citizens who live in countries most of the Egyptians back home ignore that they exist yet they were keen enough to register like for instance that Egyptian in Moldavia and those three Egyptians in Trinidad and Tobago.

And it is the big night tonight ; the Presidential debate millions of Egyptians have been waiting for between Amr Moussa and Abu El Fotoh.
Now the actual debate will be at 9 PM CLT on ONTV , ONTV live , Dream TV and Dream TV2 where as there will be analytical studio “just like in football matches” on air starting from 7.30 PM. The debate itself will be moderated by Yosri Fouda and Mona El Shazly
According to news report the presidential debate is not being followed anxiously by Egyptians only but also by Arabs as well so I hope it will be something we as Egyptians proud of.
Here is the Live stream of the big debate from Al Masry Al Youm YouTube channel.
Egypt’s first presidential debate between Moussa and Abu El Fotoh
I will be blogging the debate insh Allah live.

These are my comments and thoughts about Egypt’s presidential candidates TV debate on air that was aired yesterday in joint broadcast on ONTV and DreamTV for 90 minutes. Just like the debate I divided them on to two parts.
Now here is the complete debate itself for those interested in watching the whole thing again.
Here is my live coverage for the debate in English. It is full of grammatical and spelling mistakes. Here are also the transcript of the debate’s rounds 1 and 2 in English by follow blogger Mostafa Hussein.

The Real winner is the People

There is something different in the air without doubt , there is something different indeed because from two years ago nobody has ever imagined that millions of Egyptians would stay up late to watch for 90 minutes a long presidential elections debate between two popular presidential candidates Abdel Moneim Abu El Fotoh and Amr Moussa for the first time in their Republic political history.
Today the first question you ask your friends and relatives on the phone is “What do you think about the debate ?” , “which candidate was better ?”. Today men in mosques discussed the debate and despite some of them were already lobbying for his favorite candidate , yet there are discussion and huge interest in knowing and choosing the next president of Egypt.
The real winner of the debate are the people , the Egyptians as well the Arabs. For the first time in history men compete and battle on air with words to win the hearts and minds of the Egyptian people , in order to get their votes starting from today abroad. As some people said yesterday tonight the Pharaoh’s complex is being laid to rest , of course this complex will not be over as simple as that but it shows how much proud we have been. Cafes in Cairo , Giza and all over the country were the airing the event as if it were a football match in the world cup and Egypt was playing.
Egyptians watching the debate in the street "Getty"
Not only millions of Egyptians followed last night’s debate but millions of Arabs watched from the ocean to the Gulf with huge admiration to that big thing taken thing in Egypt. Arabs in Saudi Arabia , Algeria , Lebanon , Morocco , Tunisia and even in Syria watched the debate just like us and even had debates on who will be better leader for Egypt , the leader of the Arab world in its own way.
Despite how I felt after watching the debate itself, the comments from the Arab world made me on the verge of crying from pride and happiness.
The comments from the Gulf especially from Saudi Arabia that showed how much the people there are looking for democracy showed us how change and media in Egypt can affect the Arab world so smoothly without using slogans like exporting the Egyptian revolution..etc.
Here are an example of tweets I found in the special hashtag “Presidential Debate” Arab tweeps launched specifically for this debate.

I want to thank the amazing group of tweeps and friends that helped me in covering the big events especially : Bassem Sabry , Mahmoud Gamal El Din , Dalia Ezzat , Rowaida Mostafa , Sultan Qassemi and Menna.

Now to the debate itself :

Abu El Fotoh and Moussa in the start "AP"
  • Both Abu El Fotoh and Moussa did not discuss or debate about their platforms as much as the whole debate was to discredit the other candidate using his past as well to show off his past whether as a FM or as a political dissident. I did not like this offensive-defensive mood.
  • Moussa was expected to be diplomatic but he was too aggressive to the level of being rude especially when he told Abu El Fotoh that he will read from his book on air and probably people will buy it after his loss in the elections !!!
  • Why did Moussa refuse to reveal his financial status as well his health status on air ?
  • I want to know the opinion of Moussa regarding apostasy in Islam, seriously he can’t Abu El Fotoh something debatable like that among scholars where as what he thinks about.
  • Moussa insulted the 77% of the voters who approved the constitutional amendments in last March 2011 including myself by calming that they were not revolutionary. Strangely those 77% of the voters represent the majority of the voters he is targeting.
  • Moussa also made a joke of himself among the revolutionary class when he wondered where Abu El Fotoh was in the Egyptian revolution accusing him of not supporting the revolution. “ Abu El Fotoh was among the very few Egyptians that occupied the staircase of the Supreme court on January 25th and was in Tahrir square supervising the field hospitals in the 18 days refusing to go with the rest of the MB members and have talks with Omar Suleiman”
  • It was unethical move from Moussa to read an excerpt from a book out of its context in to spread fear from Abu El Fotoh when he knows very well that the majority of Egyptian people do not usually read. If Moussa read the whole page of this excerpt , things would have been different completely. The part was speaking about the violence and Salafist way of thinking among the Islamist youth in the university and how his idea about the use of violence changed when he joined the Muslim brotherhood thanks to Omar El Tilmisani. For those who read the book , they knew that Moussa did not bother to read it or even read the whole paragraph or the page itselft and his team actually highlighted that part for him to read. This means as a president he will only read what his staff highlights for him without any background !!
  • Belal Fadl , the famous sarcastic writer even raised the matter on his official twitter account.

  • I do not understand why Moussa turned the question of virginity checks in to a speech about women’s rights in Egypt. It was about specific matter only.
  • Moussa depended mainly on the Islamophobia and as well all the feared expressed by the liberals on twitter and Facebook despite some of these fears can be put to rest so easily.
  • The aggressiveness of Moussa makes me wonder about the fate of his political opponents if he is elected as a president and this scares me a lot more than my fear on the civility of the state.
  • Abu El Fotoh’s talk was directed in the first part to the revolutionaries whom he does not need their support in this stage as he needs the support of regular voters in the homes which Moussa is actually targeting.
  • The platforms of Abu El Fotoh and Moussa are too similar as it was shown.
  • Abu El Fotoh needs to speak less with revolutionary slogans and focus on his economic platform.
  • Abu El Fotoh did not lie when he said that he consider Israel as strategic enemy yet he should be careful on choosing his words because today I found average people in the street speaking on how Abu El Fotoh will drag us in to wars with Israel just with simple word like that.
  • Abu El Fotoh needs to understand that he can’t please everyone “this needs a whole post” and he needs to end this debate about his past in the Muslim brotherhood and Al Gama’aa Al Islamiyaa for once and for all with clear answers because there is an Islamophobia being used by his rivals to win the middle class.
  • I am do not like how Abu El Fotoh spoke that he welcomes having relations with Iran yet he will not accept the spread of Shiism in Egypt , this is insulting to thousands of Egyptian Shiites and Arab Shiites residing in the country currently.
  • I do not understand why Abu El Fotoh denied having relation with late Hossam Tamam’s book , I know it was not a biography but more of a testimony of Abu Elfotoh about the Islamic movement in Egypt in 1970s and 1980s. This book is extremely important because it shows the development of Abu El Fotoh’s mindset and how he went from being conservative Islamist to moderate Islamist from 1970s to early 1980s. It is important reference for the Islamist movement history in Egypt
By the way Saudi economic journalist Essam El Zomal posted a twitter poll asking tweeps on which candidate won the debate and 65% of the 1969 votes chose Abu El Fotoh.
I think it is my turn to ask you the same question if you watched the debate , which one candidate came out as a winner of this , of course I know I am bad moderator because I already expressed my views in the post

Poll : Who Are you going to vote for in the Egyptian 2012 presidential elections ?

And Egyptian chronicles polls are back as you see in the past few days , there are several polls I have posted already yet the main poll I am asking all Egyptians “Only Egyptians” to participate in from all over the world.

The Main poll is asking a simple question : Who are you going to vote for in the Egyptian 2012 Presidential elections ?

The answers include all the 13 presidential candidates as two answers for boycotters and those who got another name that should be included in the list like for instance Belly dancer Hiatem !!

You can find the main poll in its page which I ask you to share among your Egyptian friends and family. The main poll in its page will continue till May 24th , 2012.

There will be another poll insh Allah based on the results of the first round of the presidential elections.

There are other polls I post in the past few days in several posts I think you will find it interesting like :

Abu El Fotoh and the Brotherhood : The defector !!

$

0
The problem of Abdel Moneim Abu El Fotoh is that he is trying to win everybody’s vote in a very polarized society , he is trying to win the liberal vote but many of them believe that he is an Islamist candidate claiming to be liberal friendly yet he got this secret Muslim brotherhood agenda. For Islamists and Salafists he is just a man who is ready to sell his principles to get the liberal vote and for the revolutionaries , he is seemed to be soft when it comes to the army and SCAF where as for the army and their supporters he is a Pro-revolutionary anarchist who wants to destroy the army and used to be supportive of militant Islamist terrorist groups in the past.
It is hard to please everybody indeed despite his attempt to appear as the moderate candidate who units all Egyptians with all their political, social and religious differences behind him and his team. His attempts unfortunately is making him appear as if he were contradicting himself in many instances with different statements in interviews and public meeting.
The major problem facing the popular presidential candidate is many liberals as many non politicalized Egyptians believe that he is the secret candidate of the Muslim brotherhood despite he left it in 2011 officially after years of not only being a leading member in the famous Islamist political group but also a part of the reformist branch in the group. In this post I will try to shade some light about the relation between the Muslim brotherhood.
Just to make it easier for those who do not know anything about the MB and their history except from biased media , Abu El Fotoh is considered from the reformist branch of MB that adopts the teachings of Umar Al-Tilmisani, the 3rd general guide of MB whose teachings were moderate more than the radical teachings of Siyad Qutb.
Al-Tilmisani teachings affected Abu El-Fotoh since young age when he was leading figure in the Islamist movement in universities in Egypt in 1970s. It was mentioned in the book of Hossam Tamam “Abu El Fotoh’s testimony about the Islamist movement in Egypt”  how Al-Tilmisani changed young Abu El Fotoh’s views regarding the use of violence that was imported from abroad .
Abu El Fotoh and El Shater in jail during 1990s
Before leaving the group Abu El Fotoh has had a long fight with the Qutbists branch in brotherhood for years especially with Khairat El Shater that turned in to a personal matter between them two according to several sources and friends from inside and outside the brotherhood. The fight was obvious and clear to everybody when Abu El Fotoh slammed Khairat El Shater and Mahmoud Ezzat by name specifically on Al Naher TV’s special “A meeting with the president” Show and accused them of betraying their old friendship.
It was the first time that Abu El Fotoh would attack leaders of Muslim brotherhood like that but it came just after few hours on the same day an inflammatory attacking Op-ed written by Mahmoud Ghozlan , the official spokesperson was published in Ikhwan official website as an open letter to the Salafist calling group for choosing Abu El Fotoh. In Brief Ghozlan was reminding the Salafist calling how the group refused to endorse the MB in the elections because of his statements regarding the right of the women and Christian to lead the State and his views concerning on literature censorship.
Ghozlan used quotes of a brochure the Salafist calling issued during than with religious references to show not only the double standards of the famous group in Alexandria but to make any Salafist think twice when it comes to elect Abu El Fotoh.
Side Note : Ghozlan is the brother in law of Khairat El Shater
The attack of Ghozlan is no surprise for those who were following the escalation between the brotherhood and its famous defected member will know that it was reaching this , a MB leader claimed  from couple of weeks ago in one of the Nile Delta governorates  that if Abu El Fotoh is elected as a president , the MB will face hard times much more than the times of Nasser !! In another instance you find a leading figure in the brotherhood in Behaira telling the ladies of the brotherhood that Abu El Fotoh will ban veil in the country if he is elected !!!
Choosing the Nile delta governorates to attack Abu El Fotoh is not a surprise as conservatism is higher there than in Cairo with less media exposure.
Yesterday in Giza at that huge rally for Mohamed Morsi of Muslim brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party candidate , the moderator of the rally bashed Abu El Fotoh directly. I will recount how many times I find the MB boys attacking Abu El Fotoh on their twitter accounts in the past weeks.
Another point recently brought up is the Muslim brotherhood oath of loyalty as something from here to eternity , will Abu El Fotoh be loyal to the general guide of the MB as a president or not ?? I will not lie that I am not concerned despite the huge team of Non MB advisers of MB but there is something called logic.
Logically Abu El Fotoh broke that oath when he defied the orders of the general guide and decided to run for presidency in 2011. According to the MB they expelled him and according to him he resigned , thus I do not know what kind of oath commitment we are speaking about now from logic point of view here.
Abu El Fotoh made it clear over and over that he refuses the continuity of the Muslim brotherhood as a political group insisting that it should continue as religious preaching group.
Defections happen in the Muslim brotherhood and I do not know why people trust someone like MP Essam Sultan or Abu Ela Mady of Al Wasat Party when they are famous defected members of the Muslim brotherhood and yet they do not want to believe Abu El Fotoh.
Now regarding his years in the university as a leading figure in the Islamist movement heading the Cairo university’s Al Gama’a Al Islamiyya and all the fuss about it. There are two Al Gama’a Al Islamiyya we are dealing with, the first one was student movement formed in early 1970s by Abu El Fotoh and leading figures of Islamist movement in Egypt in Egyptian universities like MP Essam El Arian and Abu Ela Mady that joined the MB starting from mid 1970s after being taught by the old generations of MB members from professors in the Universities. This group of men has nothing to do with Al Gama’a Al Islamiyaa’s Islamic Jihad militant branch. Already Abu El Fotoh is not the only man in the world that started as radical young man but changed his mind , you got numerous examples in the West and East from leftists and Socialists.
If anyone bothered to read Hossam Tamam’s book “Abdel Moneim Abu El Fotoh’s testimony about Islamist movements in 1970s-1980s” , you will know that the man went from Ultra-conservative to conservative to moderate enough to be open for other opinions. Already Abu El Fotoh was among members of the brotherhood that opened a dialogue with other political powers and groups in Egypt starting from 2005 after years of rivalry.
Another point that scares the liberals and the centrists from Egyptians from Abu El Fotoh is the endorsement of Al Nour Party and the Salafist Calling for his presidential bid. Of course tabloid newspaper “Al Dostor” which is owned by Al Wafd Party leading member “Reda Edward” claims that Abu El Fotoh will appoint A Salafist VP , well unfortunately it is a big fate lie and despite Al Dostor had become untrustworthy newspaper , I find people who used to attack it and attack its own repeat these lies.
Abu El Fotoh told the Salafist sheikhs in the Salafist calling that he will not choose a Salafist VP because he made it clear in all his appearances that he will appoint a VP from the Youth.
The big promise Abu El Fotoh to the Salafists revolves around the Sharia and its implementation in the country , now this is a big issue because we do not know if we are speaking about implementing the principles of Sharia or the rulings of Sharia here.
I believe that Abu El Fotoh contradicts himself ironically because if we are going to speak about the rulings we can fall in to trap as the rulings’ interpretations differ from one religious School to another thus the principles are more stable throughout time. He himself got a very different view regarding the apostasy in Islam from the usual view spread among Salafists and other conservatives
Abu El Fotoh believes that implementing Sharia in the society should be on gradual basis like What Hassan Al Banna said. Of course in an interview on CBC last night , Abu El Fotoh said that when it comes to Islamic Sharia and legislation, it is the role of the parliament as an advocate of the semi-presidential system.
Of course the question we should ask ourselves is will Salafists lobby for Abu El Fotoh for elections  on the ground for real ??
Unlike the Muslim brotherhood , we are speaking about fragmented conservative groups and on the other hand I know that many of Abu El Fotoh’s ideas and openness to other political and social groups in the society will not appeal to the Salafists. Already in many of the Salafist Facebook Pages you will find comments attacking him for having Marxist unveiled woman “Rabab El Mahdi” as his political adviser.
Knowing how most Salafists think , I would not be surprised that many of them will vote for Mohamed Morsi. Already it does not make sense how they vote for someone who sees that there is no problem to elect a Christian or a woman as a president or that there is freedom in worship and people can convert as they want.
I believe that the Salafist Political leaderships seemed to be keen enough to distance themselves politically from the Muslim brotherhood specially the MB’s popularity was going down in the street from one side and MB got clashes with SCAF from another side.  thus they chose Abu El Fotoh but when it comes to voting day , Al Nour Party and Salafist calling said that they only recommend Abu El Fotoh as candidate for their supporters but it is not an obligatory matter.
I do not defend Abu El Fotoh as he got his campaigners to defend him but I am speaking about information and data I got for weeks and I felt I should share.

Regarding the brotherhood and #FGM

Youm 7 published a report in its issue on Sunday claiming that the Freedom and Justice Party is organizing medical convoys in Mania to organize”Female genital mutilationFGM operations for free on girls there and that FJP wanted to pass a law to lift the FGM ban in Egypt.
Unfortunately there is no single media outlet that confirmed what Youm 7 claimed still it created uproar to the level that the ministry of health “MOH” is going to investigate the allegations and human rights activists reported the matter to the public prosecutor.
From there Ikhwan Web denied officially these allegations on their official account on twitter accusing rivals in presidential elections of standing behind these rumors.

I do not know where the truth is but I hope MOH tells the truth.
FGM is banned according to law in Egypt. As debatable matter among Muslim scholars in Egypt , FGM is an old African practice that is not found in others parts of Muslim world.

#Palhunger : The biggest hunger strike in the Arab world

There is something big happening on today in the Middle East as 3500 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons including Egyptian and Arab prisoners are on their 29th day of their hunger strike that led by prisoners Bilal Thayb and Thaer Halahleh who entered their 79th day of their open hunger strike today.
Thaer Halahleh and Bilal Thayb
The movement of Palestinian prisoners’ hunger strike started with Khader Adnan who started a new phase of Palestinian resistance regardless of what you think.
The hunger strike of Palestinian Prisoners have taken the Egyptian and Arab social media by storm since early morning when users on Facebook and Twitter changed their avatars and profile photos to that iconic brown avatar made by Hafez Omar.
The famous original avatar
Officially from several hours ago Egyptian , Palestinian and Israeli governments announced that the Egyptian intelligence managed to find a reach for a deal between the Israelis and the Palestinians according to news agencies and official spokespersons from Palestine and Israel.
The GIS ‘Egyptian intelligence’ issued an official statement saying that it led negotiations since May 9th with the Palestinians and Israelis and that the Israeli party agreed on the Palestinian prisoners’ terms like ending their administrative imprisonment, sole confinement and allowing their families to visit them.
Here is Ofir Gendelman’s statement about the deal in the Arabic.
On the other hand the “@PalHunger” twitter denied the news that hunger strike was ended adding that any statement regarding the status of the hunger strike should come from The hunger strike leadership committee”.

Updated :

Tonight in Ramallah
by Joseph Dana
Thaer Halaheleh called his family tonight and told them that he ended his hunger strike as he will be released next June 5th,2012 insh Allah.

Bilal Thayeb also spoke with his family and told them that he will be released next August 17, 2012 insh Allah.

Of course both young men insist on seeing documents with their release in order to end their strike
It is unclear if the rest of the prisoners will continue in their strike or not. Israeli journalist Joseph Dana says on his twitter account that the streets of Ramallah were packed and there was that anger in the air predicting of violent Nakba Day protests.
According to the twitter account the strike is on still despite the pressure practiced by the Egyptian intelligence to end it and that tomorrow there will be a general strike all over Palestine.
There are Egyptian prisoners in Israel who also are on hunger strike demanding their release.
Back to the avatar that took Egypt and the Arab world by storm , here is how Egyptian Facebook looked like

Now I will not comment on the crap Maikal Nabil Pasha has been writing on his twitter all day long about the hunger strike and how he accused April 6th Youth Movement of being anti-Semitic , I will not comment because I think me and other bloggers and tweeps in Egypt made crystal clear that we were standing because of a certain principle , a principle that he himself has not understood as it seems.
This is peaceful protesting and I think if there is something called Free world for real , it should support it.

RIP Zakaria Mohy El Din : The Silent Free officer

The one of the two last surviving members of the original Revolution commanding Zakaria Mohi El Din-2council of 1952 and the founder of Egyptian intelligence Zakaria Mohy El Din “1918-2012” has passed away today after very busy and interesting political career and even longer time in silence away from public political life after retirement in 1968.

You can read his biography in Wikipedia , still I can tell you that since meeting Gamal Abdel Nasser in 1940 his role in shaping the political history of Egypt began to take place. Among the positions he occupied in his considerable short yet crowded political life were : Head of military intelligence , minister of interior , head of high dam committee , prime minister of Egypt and the vice president of Gamal Abdel Nasser.

OF course for those who know the history of Zakaria Mohi El Din very well , the first thing comes to their mind wen they hear their name is that who founded the Egyptian intelligence “GIS” in 1954. {He was 36 years old then}

In 1967 after the humiliating defeat of the six days war Nasser announced that he was going to step down leaving presidency to his first vice-president Zakaria Mohi El Din but millions of Egyptians refused that step down and in 1968 Mohi El Din suddenly resigned and decided to quit politics altogether. In the same year he had sent a letter to Gamal Abdel Nasser asking him to adopt democratic policies in the country.

In a Pro-Eastern regime in 1960s , Mohy El Din was known to leaning towards the West and thus according to some it was not surprising that Nasser though of stepping down from rule after the six days war defeat in 1967 and assigning presidency to his first VP Nasser , Zakaria and Sadatknown for his good relations to the West in order to ease the tension between Egypt and the States.

Since 1968 Mohy El Din rarely spoke in public till his death, there was very rare and short interview with BBC from decades ago but other than that , he was the black box no one managed to open for real. He had his ups and downs , he made political mistakes and sins just like the rest of the Free officers that we are paying their prices now but like everyone on this earth he was a human.

The last time Mohy El Din appeared in public was in 2002 in the jubilee anniversary when he was decorated by Mubarak some medallion remarking the anniversary.

My only wish is that this man has left us some memories or anything because his testimony is by far very important from historical perspective. I think my wish is shared by all the journalists in town who want to open that box Mohy El Din kept in his mind. I believe he owed as some answers , some explanation for many things when it comes to Nasser , the defeat , the intelligence , the police state and the relation with the West.

Now the last surviving top member of the Revolution commandeering council is Khaled Mohy El Din , his cousin who chose democracy in 1953. Unlike his silent middle right wing Pro-West cousin , leftist Khaled was outspoken to the level I wonder if he had kept any secret from us.

I feel sad today that many young Egyptians did not know who Zackaria Mohi El Din was today including activists and revolutionaries. Our history is not read in 140 characters or Facebook Post or One side version of the history , our history should be read carefully.

I also feel sad that I did not pay my respect to another Free officer who passed away earlier this year , late Tharwet Okasha who no one can’t deny contributions to the Egyptian cultural life.

I do not know if there is some kind of symbolism but we are on the verge of a new republic and Mohi El Din departs today like that. I just feel sad that he left without speaking up.

He was a true spy chief ,he was the true black box. I can’t stop comparing between him and Omar Suleiman , how he left rule and politics altogether in 1968 when he had a golden opportunity.

Fact : Zackaria Mohy El Din quitted politics altogether in 1968 when he was only 44 years , only 44 years old and he remained silent for the rest of his life

May Allah bless your soul Zackaria Mohy El Din as well Tharwat Okasha.

Now only 3 presidential candidates paid their condolences and express their sorrow for the death of Mohi El Din and they are : Hamdeen Sabbahi , Amr Moussa and Ahmed Shafik.

It is no surprise that Sabbahi “ A Nasserite” , Shafik “a military man” and Moussa “ former diplomat” to present their condolences in extremely wise , the surprise is from the rest of the presidential candidates !!

I wish I can share an interview for him , all what I have got some old photos from several websites. I used to have a rare photo scan for him but unfortunately I got it on an old hard drive which I forgot to transfer its files because of the revolution in the past 2 years !!!!!

Jews of Egypt : A forgotten History

Here is an interesting trailer for an interesting documentary discussing an interesting topic in Egypt : The exodus of Egyptian Jews in the 20th century.
Jews of Egypt
It is the first time to know that an Egyptian Jew had informed Nasser with the Plan of the 1956 trio-invasion against Egypt in advance. I am speechless about that. “As usual Nasser did nothing , just like in 1967”
The big surprise is that that Egyptian Jew was famous leftist anti Zionist activist Henri Curiel who founded the famous HAMETU communist movement that was arrested several times for their activities against the King.
As expected the documentary is being covered in English more than in Arabic , I know we got overwhelming issues but this documentary needs to be highlighted in Egyptian media.
Jews of Egypt is directed by Amir Ramsis and produced by Haitham El-Khamissi
The Egyptian Jews who are living in Egypt are expected about 100 , mostly old Egyptians.

#EgyElections : And the first lady will be from these ladies..

We spoke about the man who will be the next but we have not spoken about the lady who will be and thus here is my attempt to gather some info about the future First lady of Egypt. There is no particular order for this list that included only the top presidential candidates’ wives to save your time as well mine.

Laila Badawy

Laila  ,Moussa and their granddaughter
Amina
Laila Badawy is the wife of Amr Moussa and she is familiar with protocols after living decades as a wife of diplomat. Laila descends from famous family , her uncle is famous constitutional law guru Tharwat Badawy.
As a fresh graduate of Faculty of engineering “University of Alexandria”  she married young diplomat Moussa and moved with him to New York where he was working in 1968 in the Egyptian commission in UN.
She completed her studies in the US then gave birth to her children Hazem and Hania then she continued to have studies whether in Cairo university or university of Columbia. When Moussa was our ambassador in India , she was a volunteer in University of Delhi.
She is a very beautiful lady who descends from rich family. Her photos can be seen in the lifestyle magazines from time to time in Egypt. She is active in charity. She is also a member in some Lions clubs if I am not mistaken. She is well known as “Laila Hanem” in close circles yet despite this title reminds some with Suzanne Mubarak still in very few statements to the media , Laila Badawy made sure that she will not be involved in politics. Badawy and Mousa are grandparents.

Azza Tawfik

Late Azza Tawfik
Azza Tawfik was the late wife of Ahmed Shafik, a daughter of former minister and free officer who has just passed away from less than month ago after long battle with Cancer. Shafik did not speak that much about his wife , the mother of his three daughters despite he looked sad in some interviews right after her death. He only took 3 days off his campaign before returning back on track.
Personally I can’t imagine how he went on campaigning whether in her last days or even in the time he should mourn her yet I respect that he did not use his sickness or marriage to win sympathy. “I remember John Edwards”

Aliaa Khalil

Aliaa Khalil is the wife of Abdel Moneim Abu El Fotouh . Khalil met Abu El Fotoh and married in their last year in faculty of medicine , Cairo university through friends. Abu El Fotoh was the last one to get married from Islamists group in the university and contrary to what you think she is not from the Muslim brotherhood.
Aliaa Khalil
Khalil is a practicing gynecologist who got a private practice and a mother of 3 daughters who are all doctors as well 3 sons.
Abu El Fotoh made it clear if his wife is elected as a president will not have any role except meeting. Dr. Aliaa Khalil's first appearance in one her husband's campaign rallies was last Wednesday , in an event called "Egyptian Lady". She was seated between actors Athar El Hakim and Hanan Turk.
Abu El Fotoh and Khalil are grandparents , one of their of their grandchildren is called Yara.
Abu El Fotouh with his family
By the way  Abu El Fotoh’s family has recorded a TV interview with some channel that will be aired soon.

Naglaa Hashim

Naglaa and Khalid
Naglaa Hashim is Khaled Ali’s wife. Born in 1977 , Hashim is considered the youngest among all those ladies. She works as a human rights activist and researcher in El Nadeem Center.
She believes her husband will have a better real chance in 2016 elections.
She is also a mother of Omar “8 years” and Amina “3 years”. Omar and Amina are also the youngest among the presidential candidates’ offspring.

Siham Nagm

Nagm
Siham Nagm is the wife of Hamdeen Sabbahi. Originally from Port Said , she lived through the 1956 and 1967 wars in the city.  She was graduated from the faculty of commerce , Cairo University in 1977. She works as education expert and heads the “Arab network for educating illiterates Adults”.
She welcomed her husband’s candidacy yet she made it clear that she refuses to be “First lady” instead she will help her in her specialty.
Nagam is a mother of Ahmed “a director” and Salma “ a TV host and singer”.
The Sabbahis

Naglaa Mahmoud

Naglaa Mahmoud
Naglaa Mahmoud is the wife of Mohamed Morsi ,the candidate of MB. Naglaa Mahmoud married Morsi in 1979. She studied translation and worked as a translator while she was in the States with her husband. She gave birth to Shaimaa and Mohamed there in the States.
She believes that the first lady should not have a role on the political or social level. She believed that her husband would be a better prime minister than president.
She was born in 1962. There is a big chance that she may be the upcoming First lady of Egypt.
She is the only lady to appear in her husband’s campaign rally. She spoke to the official newspaper of Freedom and Justice Party.

Amani Hassan El Ashamawy

El Ashmawy after winning an award in UAE
Mohamed Salim El Awa’s current wife is Amani Hassan El Ashmawy who is specialized in children literature and already penned several children books. The graduate of law school already descends of a very political family with Muslim brotherhood roots. Her dad was the famous defected MB member Hassan El Ashmawy. Her cousins are judge Noha El Zeiny and Judge Ashraf El Ashmawy. By all measures her family is from the very interesting families in Egypt. She is an award winning children book author.
El Ahmawy already appeared on Tahrir TV and spoke about husband and how he loves to was dishes and eat foul “beans”. She made it clear that she refuses the title “First Lady” adding that she will continue in writing books for children.
Mrs. Amani El Ashamawy
Mrs. El Ashamawy is the second wife of Mohamed El Awa. His first wife was Dr. Asmahan Tawfik El Nunu who passed after long battle with cancer in 1992. El Nunu descended from a very rich family.
El Awa got 3 daughters and 2 sons , the most famous one of them is Fatimah El Awa who announced her endorsement for Mohamed ElBaradei in 2010. Also her sister Mariam El Awa is married from the son of famous judge Tarek El Bishary and currently lives in UK where she studies to get a PHD. El Awa’s sons live abroad ; Mohamed works as pharmacist and lives in US while Abdel Hamid works as dentist and lives in UK.
El Awa also got 3 stepsons

It is noticeable that none of these ladies have been featured in the media except may be Mrs. Mohamed Salim El Awa and  Mrs. Mohamed Morsi and it is noticeable that almost all the presidential candidates have made it clear that there will be no first lady’s role in the upcoming presidential term except in a very narrow way only related to the protocols including the very liberal candidates like Amr Moussa.
There is no secret that the role of Egypt’s first lady will be minimized in the upcoming republic at least for awhile in order to make the Egyptians forget how Suzanne Mubarak used to interfere in politics in Egypt.
Nevertheless when I look back to the biographies of these ladies , I feel proud. I hope that the next Frist lady of Egypt will understand her role for real and stands for Egypt

Warda in March 2012
Egypt and Algeria have lost tonight a true diva , Warda Al-Jazairia or just simply Warda “1940-2012” had passed away in her house in Cairo after suffering a cardiac arrest. The Algerian president will send a private jet to transfer her body to Algeria where she will be buried in the Great Algerians cemetery that include the tomb of Algerian president Houari Boumediene  there. Warda in Arabic means a rose in English
The French born half Algerian half Lebanese singer is part of Egyptian culture singing scene memory , a true legend when I remember her songs which new generations ignore. I feel so sad.
I loved her songs , her voice and her style , she was a true diva.
Now I know my words will make some Algerians angry but I consider her Egyptian as much as they consider her Algerian. I can’t forget how she sang for Egypt after 1973 war chanting “How beautiful my country is”, this love in her voice in Egypt was just incredible.
Warda : Helwa Beladi 1973
A rising star in the Arab world in late 1950s and 1960s , the golden years of Warda were in the 1970s especially after her marriage from famous music composer Baligah Hamdy as they presented some of the best romantic Arabic songs.
Warda and Baligah Hamdy in 1970s
Warda and Baligah Hamdy in 1970s
Artistically Warda knew how to keep her stardom till the 1990s presenting light songs using video clips surviving more than any 1960s singer. Her voice had still magic as in the past.
Warda : The days game “1963”
Warda was not only a singer but also an actress, she made 5 films and 2 TV series throughout her career. My generation remember “Almaz and Abdou El Hamoli” , “The victims of the revolution” and “The princess of the Arabs” when it comes to cinema. When it comes to TV her 1970s TV series “The days of roses” was extremely popular and her song in that series remained popular especially among children for years.
Warda : I have got a parrot
She starred in another TV series , I think from couple of years ago that was not successful still it was good to see her back. Here is a famous song from one of her 1970s films.
Warda : The story of my life
Politically Warda got her own share of trouble when she married for a while our war minister Abdel Hakim Amar for couple of years in early 1960s by force. Amar divorced her later to marry Berlanti and the rest is history known for everybody.
In time of Mubarak she became unwelcomed in Egypt for awhile because an incident during a concert in mid1990s that was organized by armed forces. I remember that concert very well because I had seen on air then later in the re-run after it was edited. In brief Warda told Mubarak “Come on and sing with us Mr. President”. To be honest both Mubarak and Warda did not look well on that night , I can’t forget that concert or how Warda made the young officers in the backseats dance on the beat of “Haramt Ahebak” while the supreme commander of armed forces was sitting in the front seat like a mourner.
Here is “Haramt Ahebak” or “I stop loving you” from a concert in France in mid 1990s.
Warda : Haramt Ahebak
And here is another song for lady Warda , the diva.

May Allah bless your soul dear Warda for joy you spread through the Arab world with your voice.

Tonight a tribal Sheik from the famous Al Sawaraka tribe has been assassinated from few hours ago. Sheikh Nayaf Al Sawaraka was shot down when a group of militants opened their fire in front of the city council in the city of Al Arish. They fled in a car and the man was transferred to a hospital to die there.

North Sinai is on alert , security authorities whether police or army are on alert. It is unclear the motives behind this act which is the first of its kind when I recount the violence in Sinai as we are speaking about tribal chief.

Could it be for tribal differences ?! I do not know , the man is known for wisdom and was like a meditator among tribes according to news reports. The time and place are more than alarming.

There are armed Jihadi Salafist groups in Sinai and for some reason the authorities in the past year and half left these groups to flourish. These armed groups are not under the control of the local tribes , they work according to their leaders.

#Egyelections : And #AMAF shows off his supporters

The official Abu El Fotouh "AMAF" campaign announced that it would end its official activities on Friday in a big show off for the popularity of the moderate Islamist candidate. The event got an ad that is worth thousands of pounds in Ahram weekly Friday issue. It was supposed to be at Cairo international stadium but the stadium's administration refused the event despite the Muslim brotherhood and Freedom and Justice party organized a big event for Mohamed Morsi at Mansoura stadium in the city of Mansoura last month !! Anyhow they moved it to Al Gazeeria Youth center in Zamalek this is better because It would not be easy to go to Nasr city on Friday night

The event included hosting prominent figures in the society that endorses Abu El Fotouh that make him the man who u unit ideologies behind his idea of "strong Egypt" , just look to the speakers of the events : Director Mohamed Diab , director Amr Salama , Activist Wael Ghonim, singer Hamza Namira , actress Hanan Turk , actress Athar El Hakim, MP Mostafa El Nagar , MP Essam Sultan, Al wasat party leader Abu Ela Mady, Al Nour party spokesperson Nadar Bakr were some of the names announced.

Believe or not but I do not like some of these figures but we should unit in this critical time on common goals then we can kick each other asses later.
Anyhow in my way to the event I found out that Ultras Abu El Fotouh organized marches to the event from Kasr al Nil bridge to Al Gazeera youth center and so I decided to go with them and move in their rally. Middle class , liberal and moderate Islamists families and youth were in the march that I joined , it was one from several rallies. I found a Christian colleague from college years in the march wearing Abu El Fotouh T-shirt. In the street some saluted Abu el Fotouh supporters and some did not because they blocked the street for awhile.

Based on the buses , posters and logos , I knew that Al wasat party mobilized its members to support Abu el Fotouh. The building and development party was also there with their banner including the infamous Omar Abdel Rahman supports Abu El Fotouh. It was announced that the blind sheikh endorsed Abu el Fotouh still his son announced that his father was decieved and he would endorse Moris if he knew about him.

Inside the youth center you will find a cross section from Egyptian society with all its social and political backgrounds. You will find old people and young people , you will find rich , middle and working class , you will Muslims and Christians , the liberal and Salafist as well Al Gamaa al Islamiyaa , you will find the deaf and the disabled , you will people from Upper Egypt, Sinai, Red sea ,Suez , Alexandria and other areas, you will find unveiled and veiled girls. You can not deny this diversity in Abu el Fotouh supporters on that night ,if you were there. Thousands of supporters were there cheering for the man waving with their orange flags and singing his ultras style songs. It was big show off.

The disabled and hearing impaired audience were seated in the front seats. There were special hearing impaired translators who translated the whole event on air.

As original Egyptian event , it did not start in time. It started with Abu El Fotouh's arrival along that group of public figures that support him. The event was presented by Mohamed Al Shahawy, the manager of Abu El Fotouh's campaign. It started with verses of Holy Quran then a moment of silence dedicated There were three short documentaries presented in the event including one made by Hanan Turk about Abu El Fotouh and his campaign. There was one pause of prayer where Al Shahawy recited the Azan himself. The event were small speeches by the public figures to explain why they are endorsing Abu El Fotouh and why they are calling the people to vote for Abu El Fotouh.

The speakers were : centrist activist Wael Ghonim, leftist activist Wael Khalil, salafist activist Khaled Mansour, Christian doctor Sherif Dos , award winning director Mohamed Diab, award winning director Amr Salama ,actor Ahmed Fahmy , actor Athar El Hakim, Dr. Nadia Mostafa , Rabab al Mahdy , Abu Ela Mady , MP Sultan ,MP Mostafa El Nagar, writer and islamist thinker Fahmy Howiday, former MB leader Kamal Al Helbawy, singer Hamza Namirah ,Abu el Fotoh's adviser Rabab El Mahdy ,representatives from Al Gama'a Al Islamiyaa and its political arm building and development as well representatives from Al Nour party including its famous spokesperson Nadr Bakar.

As you can see this wide range of personalities represent far right to far left stood behind the man in some kind of consensus we have not seen it since the 18 days of the revolution. These personalities were reflection Of course you can guess from my coverage that I support Abu el Fotouh , yes I do support a man who can gather this wide range of pro-revolutionary political powers from left to right in this transitional period , I will explain my reasons later but for the time being I will quote dear Ghonim

We do not need another Saladin or savior , we need a head for executive authority
The speakers' words were too many , I recorded some parts. Some of the speakers attacked SCAF, the former regime's candidates and the Muslim brotherhood.I like what Ghonim, Diab , Khalil, Helbawy, Salama as well Al Nagar and Rabab el Mahdy said.

Abu Fotouh's speech was the final act or rather the main act in the event that those thousands waited for anxiously. The short speech was in my point of view was actually a warning to SCAF from playing around in the elections. "We heard lately that SCAF was supporting one of the candidates , SCAF should aware that the couch party aka the Kanaba party will not accept any attempt to manipulate the elections" Abu El Fotouh said. He did not only send a message to SCAF but to the army as well."The army will turn against the people" AMAF said revealing that he got a phone call from General Sami Anan last Thursday where he told warned the general from dishonoring the military honor. Of course I wish I know what Anan had told him.

I will try to upload the photos and videos in time as it is just three days away from the elections. My laptop is dying and I losing my mind. I recorded almost for all the speakers and I do not know how I can work on these videos

#Egyelections : The upper Egyptian vote

$

It is only matter of hours and the first real presidential elections will start in Egypt , it is only matter of hours and honestly we do not know who will be the next president of Egypt.

Now I wrote before about the Christian vote in Egypt and tonight I believe I should write another important voting bloc in Egypt : The Upper Egyptian vote.

Quick facts :
  • Upper Egypt consists of the following governorates : Fayoum, Bani Sawif, Sohag , Al Mania, Assuit , Qena ,Red Sea, Luxor and Aswan. "They are Upper Egyptians who live in Aswan along with the Nubian"
  • The main tribes in Upper Egypt are : Al Hawara , Al Arab, Al Ashraf , Gowhina, Bani Helal, Tamim,Harab and Al Rashida.
  • Upper Egypt suffers from poverty , illness and unemployment more than area in the country.
  • Upper Egypt got tons of social problems when it comes to customs and traditions that are against religion and law.
  • Upper Egypt has got a bitter history with the state because of illegal arms trade and the bloody past of Jihadi militant groups in 1980s and 1990s
  • Upper Egypt has got huge economic potentials if it is reached in the right way.
When it comes to the Islamist vote in Upper Egypt , we are speaking here about Al Gama'a Al Islamiyaa and it's political arm "The development and building party" more than the Muslim brotherhood. Al Gama'a Al Islamiyaa endorses Abdel Moneim Abu El Fotouh yet we should not forget that the MB and its political arm " The freedom and justice party" scored several seats in Upper Egypt.

Still regardless of what you may think , when it comes to the presidential elections , the tribal vote and the tribal choice play important role above anything. This is why only those who know the key of Upper Egypt for real is the tribes that should be reached from long time.

According to my dear friend "Biso" , my trusted source on Upper Egypt the tribal vote there at least in three governorates including Qana and Sohag leans towards Amr Moussa. I am not surprised because from a year ago Moussa was roaming Upper Egypt and Sinai more than any presidential candidate. Of course according to Biso and his very trusted sources members of the former regime in Upper Egypt who contacts and influence with the tribes support his campaign.

Reuters published a Report about Sohag in Upper Egypt where allegedly the people still support Mohamed Hosni Mubarak !! Based on that report we can predict that Shafik may got those Mubarak's sympathizers.

Inside the Upper Egyptian vote bloc , we got a very important "The Christian Upper Egyptian vote". From what I understand the Church made it clear that it will not recommend any specific presidential candidate leaving the freedom of choice. Some say that the Christians in Upper Egypt will choose either Amr Moussa or Shafik but fear to say it officially thanks to the Islamist presence there. Well it does not need a wild guess to know that the Christian vote will lean to non Islamist presidential candidates regardless they are revolutionaries or not.

Now this does not mean Moussa or Shafik not will get for sure the votes in Upper Egypt ,it is still estimation.

Can we trust these polls ?

Sometimes polls play important role in leading the opinion in the society than in reflecting the opinion in the society , this role is often noticed in time of the elections some undecided voters consider the polls a good source to choose the winning horse to bet on in the elections.

In the past two week the polls of Ahram center for strategic and political studies and Al Masry Al Youm's Baseera centre  showed a rise Ahmed Shafik, Mohamed Mursi and Hamdeen Sabbahi and a decline for both Amr Moussa and Abdel Moneim Abu El Fotouh despite Moussa was leading the polls.
According to Ahram Center  the leading candidates in the latest poll conducted from May 14th to 17th were : Moussa "31.7%" {going down} , Shafik "22.6%" {going up} , Mohamed Morsi "14.8%" {going up} , Abu El Fotouh "14.6%" {going down} and Sabbahi "11.7%" {going up}.
According to Baseera Center conducted in the same period : Ahmed Shafik "19.35%" , Amr Moussa "14.6%" , Abu El Fotouh "12.4%" , Sabbhi "9.5%" and Morsi "9%".
Personally I believe the voting bloc was going to vote to Omar Sulieman has gone to Shafik where us the conservative part of Abu Ismail's voting bloc has gone to Mursi as he is more conservative than Abu El Fotouh.

The question is can we trust these Egyptian polls ?

Unfortunately I feel that the representative samples we are speaking about in these polls here are too small compared to the number of eligible voters in Egypt which is nearly 51 million voters where as most of these samples due to expenses are between 1000 to 3000 maximum.
This small number does not help to cover better geographical and social classes. Already in some polls due to expenses the borders governorates "North Sinai, South Sinai ,Marsa Matrouh,Red sea and New Valley" despite their extreme importance.

By the way Brookings center in the States has published the results of a poll it conducted in early May 2012 that ended one day before the presidential debate. It is extremely interesting and important despite some of the numbers have been outdated.

The methods used to conduct the questionnaires some are questionable especially we are speaking about phone polls. Any one studied marketing research will know that the phone calls are not reliable because people usually want to finish quickly.

In brief and according to what is known in media these polls are truly conducted but sometimes if not all the times the results of these polls were being sent to the regime whether Mubarak's state security in the old days or to SCAF now. Some times these results were modified in order to published."hopefully this is not happening currently"

Of course I have my own poll that will end after couple of days and its results aren't modified at all ;)
