#Oct73 war anniversary : The 2016 edition

On Wednesday , Egypt celebrated the October 1973 War 43rd anniversary.
It was quieter than previous years as far as I could tell.

An Egyptian soldier on the Front in October 1973
On Wednesday , Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi attended the commemoration of the war by the Egyptian armed forces along with none other than Sudan's Omar El-Bashir.
As an Egyptian , I felt insulted twice.

Egypt should not have received a war criminal dictator like El-Bashir in the first place.
El-Sisi should not have awarded a war criminal like El-Bashir the Egyptian army's Order of Honor star regardless.
It is an insult for the martyrs in Egypt who died in the 1973 war as well the martyrs who were killed in Sudan whether in North or Sudan , whether in Darfur or South Sudan.
El-Bashir and Sisi
Omar El-Bashir honored during the celebration !!
"Egyptian armed forces"
It is a shame and sends a wrong message to the world.
By the way, Pro-Sisi supporters do not like Bashir because they believe that he is a pro-MB. I read on social media account that Sisi honored him only to remind him that he is a "military" !!
The Egyptian TV channels aired the same old films about the war as well special programs that stressed on the idea that the Egyptian people were not selfish and consuming in 1973 like now.
Those TV channels and who runs them forget that in 1973 the Egyptian armed forces as well the government made a perfect plan to cover the supplies of the Egyptian people for months before 6 October so they would give any hint to the Israelis that there would be any war !!
Former first Gihan El-Sadat called the Egyptians in 2016 to tolerate the economic crisis and not to eat meat or poultry.
The Egyptian armed forces' Morale department made an effort this year and released short documentaries about the war and its heroes from late commanders. You can find those videos in the Egyptian MOD YouTube Channel.
Mubarak fans went to Maadi military hospital and cheered for him paralyzing the traffic for couple hours , it has become an annual ritual.
For some odd reason , the Israeli Defense Forces "IDF" spokesperson for Arabic Media Avichay Adree shared on his official Facebook page that Egyptian Shaabi top hit "Mafesh Saheb Yetsaheb" {No Friend to befriend} saying that it is popular in Israel "Found that a bit strange" and that he believed that many friends can be trusted totally. "He wrote it in a Levant accent".

The post got nearly 5 thousand comments and mostly they are Egyptian offensive comments as usual.
Now , people are analyzing why he would share like that on the anniversary of October/Yom Kippur war and some are speculating that he is sending that Egypt cannot be trusted !!
Personally , I do not know what he meant but nothing is published on that page except it was intended to send a specific message.
P.S : That annoying hit made over 91 million views on YouTube alone !!
The Israeli embassy in Cairo also posted on its Facebook page a post about the war which was actually a "Ten points about the importance of Yom Kippur war to peace"in Arabic.

Aside from the Israeli's efforts on Social media, Young Egyptians shared wonderful and amazing stories of their parents and grandparents who participated in the war as the true heroes of Egypt.
A group of Egyptian soliders and officers on the Front in 1973
Wonderful photos and testimonies of young Egyptian men on the Front make you proud as well sad considering how Egypt suffers today. Egypt should have been a better place with all those sacrifices.
I pray and I hope things will be different next year inshallah and that we will celebrate that great anniversary as we should. Hopefully , also next year things will change and the Egyptian state will release its 1973 archives to the Egyptians and to the world to let them see the war through our eyes after four decades.

The return of Mubarak living dead week !!

It was not only Ahmed Ezz or Hussein Salem who had a comeback last week , it seems that most of Mubarak cronies above them the controversial officials are back to public life shamelessly.

Amr Adeeb hosted on Sunday Mubarak's minister of planning Osman Mohamed Osman in Ahmed Nazif's cabinet who wrote an op-ed in Al-Masry Al-Youm Daily "Just like Ezz" suggesting the cancellation of subsidies.

Speaking about the cancellation of subsidies "which Adeeb advocates in his show and actually IMF demands El-Sisi to do" , Osman said  something that is very interesting.
Mubarak on 6 October waving for his fans
at Maadi hospital in Cairo "AP"
He says that the person who earns LE 20 "$2" per day in Egypt is not poor !!
In the same moment , he said that those who earned LE 16 "$1.6" per day are living under the poverty line according to the official US exchange rate in banks on Sunday "USD 1 = LE 8.88"
He forgot that the price of US dollar in the black market reached this week to LE 14.30 as far as I have heard!!
There was a joke on social media that soon after hosting Osman and Salem , Adeeb would host Suzanna Mubarak.

Former PM Ahmed Nazif is back to teaching at Cairo University and according to Youm 7 Sources he is going to supervise the post-graduates' studies in the faculty of engineering.

It is worth to mention that Nazif was acquitted from all corruptions charges he was convicted of.
Speaking about Cairo University , you know that the minister of higher education cancelled the Student Unions elections in Universities because last year elections brought opposition and Pro-Revolutionary students into the leadership of different unions across the country !!

On Thursday ,  TV host Rashad George of State TV made headlines when he appeared on "Good morning Egypt" on Ch.1 early Wednesday saluting the hero of 1973 war Hosni Mubarak slamming 25 January , April 6 and Muslim Brotherhood.

Some say that this is the first time Mubarak is praised in the Egyptian state TV since five years , a thing which I highly doubt it considering how much the 25 January revolution and its supporters as well icons have been slammed in state-media since day one.

Rashad is reportedly suspended from work for going off script.
The Pro-Mubarak supporters are flying over the moon.

Nobody has denied the role of Mubarak in 1973 October war but nobody should forget that he was officially found guilty of corruption and emblazing public funds in the presidential mansions trials.
According to that conviction , Mubarak is officially stripped off his honors including the Order of Sinai star.

This is the law and this is the judiciary.

A sign that tells you a lot about Egypt's economy

That sign was seen in the upscale Seoudi supermarket on Wednesday telling their upper-middle-class clients new rules.
Seoudi market's announcement

As we are keen to provide goods continuously to all our clients, we would like to hint out that the available quantity for each client from (sugar or oil or rice) is 2 packs or 2 bottles only.

I think this tells you how much the current economic  crisis is affecting Egypt and it began to echo in the privilege classes above them the Upper Middle Classes.

Friends tell me that similar hypermarket chains got similar restrictions including Carrefour especially when it comes to sugar.

It seems that we are having a sugar crisis in Egypt as its prices soared reaching to LE 10 if you find it in the market.

The minister of supply denies that there is "sugar crisis" and news reports speak about the dirty role of greedy suppliers.

It is like that we are back to the 1960s once again and its crises when it comes to food supply.

Taken in May on the way to Alexandria by train from Cairo.
I love train trips in Egypt because you can use easily the countryside you have not seen before in a very short time.
Those photos were taken in different places. The upper two were taken in Beheira governorate , exactly in the famous "Itay Al-Baroud" city while the lower one was taken on Banha railway bridge.
You can see here couple of nice photos from Egypt's countryside in Nile Delta's Sharkia

The tuk-tuk driver who spoke on behalf of many Egyptians now "Updated"

First of all,  God bless the soul of the 12 Egyptian Conscripts who were killed earlier this Friday by terrorists in Mid Sinai.
I won't say anything new more than what I have said before in similar incidents before: Something wrong in the strategies concerning war terrorism in North Sinai.

Second , In the past 24 hours , Egyptians had nothing to speak about or share about online except that tuk-tuk driver who was not afraid of speaking on camera about the woes of Egypt slamming its government and president directly and indirectly.

I am writing a post about the current crisis between Egypt and Saudi Arabia but I have to pause for awhile to write about that short 3-minutes interview that became the talk of the country for real.

Wednesday evening, prominent TV host Amr El-Lissy aired on his TV show " Someone from the people" on Al-Hayah Private TV channel a special report he recorded earlier about people's complaints "mainly from economic crisis" in the working class' local market at October city.

Among those people whom he interviewed , a "tuk-tuk driver" who is extremely angry because of the current economic situation as well how things in general deteriorated in Egypt since 1952.

Here is the video. The tuk-tuk driver appeared in minute  7:19 exactly.
-

Angrily and eloquently , the "tuk-tuk driver" told El-Lizzy that instead of spending billions on mega-national projects, the government should spend more on education , health and agriculture "so Egyptians can eat".

During the interview , El-Lissy interrupted him and asked him from where he was graduated as he spoke very eloquently unlike the general perception of "tuk-tuk drivers" as uneducated. The man told him that he was a "tuk-tuk graduate".

In 3-minutes , that anonymous man expressed what many Egyptians want to say publicly on TV.
Thursday morning , the 3-minutes video spread like fire on social media networks from YouTube to Twitter to Facebook to Whatsapp to SoundCloud !!

On Twitter , several hashtags spoke about the video in Arabic above them "tuktuk graduate"
It was shared like fire by many Egyptians if not million of Egyptians on Thursday from all political affiliations and most of them agreed that this angry man represented them.

The 3-minutes interview already reached to 5 million views on Al-Hayah Official Facebook page before it was removed for no reason by afternoon.

People are angry and attacking the channel on its official Facebook page.

Thursday afternoon , El-Lissy revealed that the cabinet contacted him and tried to reach to the driver in order to have him in a meeting with the cabinet officials.
The prominent TV host told the cabinet that he did not have his contact information or even know his name.

Let the conspiracy theories begin

Knowing how much the state controls the media especially TV channels in Egypt, several Pro-revolutionaries suspected that that interview was staged to vent the people's anger. They suspected that he would be an informant.

Do not be surprised but many people began to think this way after discovering how the security authorities infiltrated the media as well revolutionary groups and movements and turned to be informants.
I should write about this issue one day.

To be honest , I had my doubts about the authenticity of that video especially El-Lissy's choices of topics  in his TV show like exorcism made me think twice.
Both Amr El-Lissy and his producer Mohamed ElKomy denied completely that it was staged interview.

Then I saw how it was received madly and angrily by the Pro-Sisi supporters including the so-called e-committees or e-battalions on Twitter and Facebook pages.
Yes , Pro-Sisi/army/police/State supporters are furious because of that video.
They were furious to spread lies and rumors that anonymous driver who did not know about his name.

The Pro-State/Sisi/Police/army Facebook pages like the unofficial Egyptian Police FB page which is said to be run by a group of police officers began to publish posts that he were a teacher and used to be a member in the MB's political arm "Freedom and justice Party".
Other pages claimed that he owned a computer shop.

They even posted a photo of some family in Sharm El-Sheikh have fun on some yacht cruise in the Red Sea as a proof on how rich he were.
It turned out the photo is the photo of a lady called Rasha Ezzat who is not related from near or far to that "tuk-tuk driver". Ezzat vowed sued those who used her photo.

Ironically and sadly, she receives up till now comments attacking her as the tuk-tuk driver's wife !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The attack included Amr El-Lissy as well.
He is currently accused of being a Muslim Brotherhood member because he was former president Morsi's adviser. Those people forgot that El-Lissy who declared his support to the current regime in Egypt actually resigned to object Morsi's constitutional declaration in November 2012.

Masrawy news website made reached out to the identity of the tuk-tuk driver who turned to be a hard working man originally from Sohag who lives and works as a tuk-tuk driver in October city.
His name is Mostafa Abdou and left October city and took his small family back to Sohag till things calm down.
The tuk-tuk driver
Mostafa Abdou , Egypt's most famous tuk-tuk driver
He lives with his wife and his two children in a rented 53 square meter apartment. According to his uncle who spoke with Masrawy in October city , he did not continue his education and used to work as a mechanic for awhile before becoming a tuk-tuk driver.

His uncle also says that Abdou is not a member of the Brotherhood and he elected El-Sisi but he could not tolerate the economic crisis lately.

Many are expecting that he will be found by the government and forced to appear in the media praising the current regime and its president El-Sisi.

Pathetically and disgustingly , the Pro-Sisi online supporters used the horrifying terrorist attack against the young conscripts in North Sinai to slam the tuk-tuk driver launching "#I_am_an_armored_vehicle_gradudate"hashtag in Arabic on Friday.

On Saturday , Al-Hayah TV Network announced that the Amr El-Lissy's TV show was suspended for two weeks because the TV host started his annual leave !!
Sources close to the TV host and his show say that it is an open annual leave.

Almost all TV talk shows are talking that tuk-tuk driveron Saturday.

Representing many Egyptians

I believe Mostafa Abdou's video went viral because simply this is what the Egyptian people are feeling and speaking about away from the media that do not truly represent them.

Abdou is usually from that class that ignored by all political powers above them the regime and deep state that only need them in time of elections.

Abdou's video went viral in no time and how millions of Egyptians shared across social media networks approving what he said to the camera indicates that there is anger under the surface but no one wants to speak about it.

Another important thing : Abdou's mention to Egypt's better economy before the 1952 coup with numbers "there was no social justice though during then" indicates that he is a good follower  to King Farouk website's Official Facebook page and its sister FB pages. He did not complete his education but social media is now a source of his knowledge. This is a bless and curse at the same time.

It also indicates how Egyptians regardless of their social status miss those days.

P.S : I found out that TV host Amr El-Lissy blocked me on twitter because I criticized him for hosting charlatans from time to time on his TV show.

Fall of discontent Redux : The viral videos week

$

Did you see the video of Tuk-tuk driver ? Did you notice how it pissed off all the Pro-regime mainstream media and supporters !?
P.S : The Pro-regime media is still fighting the tuk-tuk driver's video insisting that he is a Muslim Brotherhood member.
Well, guess what ??
The Tuk-tuk driver video was not the only viral video of citizens expressing how much they fed up with the current economic situation.
There are other videos that went viral in the past 48 hours and now we got the "Video revolution" week.

Let's start with that video shared crazily starring a very angry and honest woman.
The video is published by Turkey-based Arab Affairs website. I think it is recorded recently in Alexandria as this lady used the Alexandrian term to describe her purse .
This video has been top trending on Youtube in Egypt as well in other Arab countries especially in Gulf.

A lady complains about prices on video

That angry lady said more than what the tuk-tuk driver said about the army and its role in the society.
"The army will distribute meat , the army will supervise the sewage system , are there no more people in the country except the army !??" She wondered in anger.
"The people above are fighting each other and arresting each other while we, the poor people are being crushed" She said slamming the ruling class.
She also slammed TV hosts saying that she did not trust anyone of them because they earn millions exploiting the people.
We do not know her identity and I am glad we did not because the Tuk-tuk driver is hiding right now with his small family.
She got two daughters in University according to what she said in the clip.
They may get in trouble if they are being identified now.

There was another video that shocked people and went viral as well.
That video showed a man who set himself on fire in front of the Armed Forces club's entrance in Sidi Bishr in Alexandria.
The video of the taxi driver

Social media users quoted alleged eye-witnesses saying that the taxi driver was demanding to meet El-Sisi at the Armed forces club.
Early reports spoke about that he did because he could not pay the expenses of his family.
Other reports say that he did because he was had legal problems with some bad influential people where he lives and he just wanted justice.
According to Alexandria health department, that man is called Ashraf Shahin.
The 30-years old man survived but he got burns on 95% of his body. He is currently in a very critical condition in hospital. Another citizen got burns on his body while trying to save him.
Before he would be positioned as the new Bouazizi of Sisi's era , the Alexandria security directorate released his criminal record to prove that he is not worth it !!

Another video went viral for another younger man , who was very angry and decided to share his anger on Facebook.

This young man is slamming a Pro-regime TV host who was attacking people for speaking up about economic crisis as well attacking political activists and social media because there are "soldiers who are dying in Sinai" and "We are living a war economy !!" {Does she even understand the meaning of that word !!??}

This is the video of Mahmoud Abdel Moneim and he is not only criticizing that Al-Nahar TV channel host who was ordering people to "wake up"but also the army and its current policies directly and indirectly.
I do not know much about Abdel Moneim except that he is Pro-Jan25.
I see that there is another taboo has been broken in some of those videos, which is the army.

The week won't be over and yet another video is making rounds on Egypt's social media in the past 24 hours.
This time it is a short interview with an old pensioner shopkeeper who closed his shop and lost his money because of the economic crisis in Port Said.
An interview with a shop owner who lost his fortune because of the economic crisis
That video reached out to many Egyptians who can not tolerate seeing elderly humiliated.
That interview is from Dream TV2's famous "10 PM" TV night talk show. I think that type of interviews is let to be aired on TV as a vent for the public anger but this time , it increases anger.
I wonder if Wael Al-Abrashi will join his colleague Amr El-Lissy in an open

By the way, Port Said witnessed a very rare protest on Tuesday as hundreds protested against its governor because of the increase in the prices in the social housing project in the governorate.
It was a rare scene to see protesters saying after 2013 "Leave" even if it was directed to the governor.

The fact that those videos are going viral among Egyptians including the apolitical Egyptians as once Pro-Sisi supporters according to what I see among friends and family proves that there is a true public anger and it is growing thanks to the economic crisis.

Needless to say , the Pro-regime and supporters claim that the Muslim Brotherhood group is behind those people forgetting an important fact : The social media users in Egypt that share them on their FB walls , What's up message and Tweets do not care that much about who is behind them as much as they care their disontencted voice reachs out to those who may concern.
