And today not less than 30 potential presidential candidates have registered themselves and submitted their applications at the High presidential elections committee in Heliopolis since 9 AM in the morning. “Now it is 3:40 PM and I have heard that about 134 potential president candidate have registered so far !!”
The first presidential candidate hopeful to register is none other former PM Ahmed Shafik.
Shafik after submitting his application "Getty"
One look to those who appeared and stood in long queue in order to register themselves as potential presidential candidates and make you feel that as if you are in circus with my all due respect to the real potential presidential candidates.
I am the Thermometer of democracy !! "Getty"

Our own condolence is that in every country you will find attention seeker who want to run for presidency all over the globe from strippers to Porn stars to Dervishes , it is a circus !!
The cousin of ousted President Mohamed Mubarak has registered as well today !! His name is Mohamed Hosni Mubarak also and he supports Tahrir square !!!!!!
Bothania Kamel , the first woman to announce her intention to run for the presidential position is going to register tomorrow. Kamel is already in the States as far as I know from her twitter account.
It is worth to mention that the HPEC has issued a decision to ban all presidential campaigns starting from March 10th to April 29th !!!!!!!! This means that the presidential candidates have got only 20 days to campaign in 27 governorates in the country legally !!
There is no good excuse for the committee despite to be honest most top candidates have been campaigning for nearly a year and technically nobody is going to abide by that decision. Anyhow most presidential candidates have expressed their refusal for that decision which described it as unfair and suspicious.
Hisham El Bastawisi says that the decision does not bother him because he has no real campaign as he only depends on interviews whether on TV or in newspapers !!!
The Abu El Fatouh’s campaign announced its total refusal for the decision in a statement it issued on Friday wondered on how the presidential candidates will have only 20 days for campaigning in 27 governorates across the country. The campaign announced that it will cooperate with other presidential campaigns to stand against the decision.
Islamist Presidential candidate Mohamed Salim El Awa declared that he refuses the decision as well.
Leftist Presidential candidates Abu El Ezz El Hariri and Khaled Ali announced that they will not abide by the decision.
Amr Moussa and his campaign announced that he will not go a meeting that was going to be held at the National council of Youth “follows the government” to meet with Egyptian youth as he respects the decision of the HPEC. Of course Moussa is the last one to speak about campaign and exposure , he does not need more publicity already !!
On the ground no presidential campaign has respected the decision , they are all campaigning online and offline for their campaigns as well for the power of attorney battle before April 8th 2012.

Updated :

And the first woman to apply and register herself in the presidential race is Huda Farag.
Huda Farag is a journalist and strategic analyst as shown in Google search.
Huda Farag "From Huda Farag FB page"
Farag told the journalists today that she decided to join the race because “Egypt needs a real mother to solve her problems !!”
Today 158 Egyptian have applied for the presidential elections.

Presidential Elections 2012 : The True Power of The power of attorney !!!

The independent presidential candidates are required to collect at least 30,000 power of attorney from 15 governorates across the country or to score 30 power of attorney from members of parliament.
The idea behind of these terms is to show that candidate has got a real popularity.
The partisan presidential candidate should be represented a party that got at least one party. This means that Potential Presidential candidate and MP Abu El Ezz El Hariri is eligible to run already.
Here is a complete list in Arabic for the public notary offices across the country. There are at least 337 notary offices assigned to receive the power of attorney from the citizens.
Here is a scan for the power of attorney for presidential candidates.
Power of Attorney
Power of Attorney
Citizens need to bring their IDs along the ID info of their candidate.
Most presidential candidates already complained the High presidential elections committee “HPEC” did not declared the steps on how people can submit the power of attorney for weeks. Nobody knew about that presidential candidate power of attorney except today.
In the first 24 hours rumors began that candidate X and candidate has began to buy power of attorney to spread.
People have to understand this power of attorney is not a vote , you can sign a power of attorney for one candidate and vote for another one when time comes.
Here is a nice slideshow for our presidential candidates’ IDs :
The presidential candidates IDs
The first one to share his ID was Abdel Moneim Abu El Fatouh. I am still collecting the IDs. They are interesting because they show where they live. I really like more when they show their ID itself and not its details.
Now a quick update in the first 24 hours :
  • Abu El Fatouh’s campaign reported that there were obstacles facing citizens as the red tape problems including the lack of the power of attorney forms in 18 notary offices in Giza , Sharika , Ismailia , Fayoum and Port Said.
  • In other notary offices citizens were demanded to show a copy from the IDs.
  • One of the sorrowful incidents the campaign reported was that one of the notary offices in Ismailia refused to accept the power of attorney from the disabled calming that they did not have any right to do it !!
  • Hazem Abu Ismail’s campaign also reported that citizens faced red tape problems.
  • Abu El Fatouh campaign's boys and girls are helping everyone to submit their power of attorney even those coming for Abu El Fatouh’s rivals.

Presidential elections 2012 : Who is endorsing Who “3-11”

$

Here is a quick summary for who is endorsing who in the political scene in Egypt when it comes to the presidential elections. It will be updated every week ISA. I will keep the position of Muslim brotherhood till the end as part of the suspense.
The presidential Office in Abdeen Palace
Liberal New Wafd Party declared its endorsement to Mansour Hassan hours after his announcement that he was going to run last Wednesday in a surprise move after their announcement that the famous old liberal party would endorse Amr Moussa. Speculations say that Al Wafd chose Hassan because he is the SCAF and Muslim brotherhood’s candidate. The Al Wafd party’s youth are said to began a revolt against the party’s old leaderships that chose Hassan over Moussa. We will see if this revolt will result in defections or not.
Wafd party comes after Freedom and Justice party and Nour party when it comes to representation in the parliament
Islamist Al Wasat Party has declared its endorsement to potential presidential candidate Mohamed Salim El Awa. It is not a big surprise at all as the party considered him as a godfather. El Awa has secured 11 MPs’ power of attorney already. It is not a new thing as Al Wasat party declared his support to El Awa for months. Al Wasat party got members in the parliament
The Egyptian current party aka El Tayar El Masry party “Youth moderate party” has announced its endorsement to presidential candidate Abdel Moneim Abu El Fatouh. TM was founded by the defected MB youth who left the brotherhood in the beginning of the revolution including Islam Lotfy , the member of Revolution Youth Coalition. The Egyptian current party got no representative in the parliament
Non partisan moderate Masrena Movement has announced its full endorsement to Abu El Fatouh. The movement founded by Wael Ghonim and Moatez Abdel Fatah along others reached to that decision after surveying the members of the movement.Nearly 70% of the members chose Abu El Fatouh. We are speaking about 10,000 members here.
The Justice and Freedom Youth Movement “Has nothing to do with the Freedom and Justice party” announced their endorsement to Abu El Fatouh as well.
Nasserite El Karma is standing behind its founder Hamdeen Sabhi , the only Nationalist Nasserite candidate in the race so far.
The Muslim brotherhood and its political arm Freedom and Justice party have not decided yet which candidate they are going to endorse and here we are speaking about a critical voting bloc. After a lot of rumors that MB will endorse this or that , the famous group and its party said that it would declare its final position from the presidential candidates after April 8th,2012 when registration is closed and after revising all the presidential programs of the candidate to choose the best.
Still one can speculate that they will not endorse Abu El-Fatouh or Hazem Abu Ismail despite Mohamed Badie, the MB’s supreme guide said they prefer a presidential candidate from Islamist background.
The reasons behind their rejection to Abu El-Fatouh who was once a leading member in the brotherhood needs a separate post but to give a hint , please read the following so-recent quote.
Whoever will elect Abu El Fatouh from the MB’s youth without the brotherhood permission will be fired
Mahmoud Ghozlan, the spokesperson of MB said that on Al Jazeera Mubshar Misr last night.
It is worth to mention that there is online campaign the MB launched among its youth “I am from the brotherhood and I will stick to its decisions”. It is disgusting because I do not understand why grown ups stick to decisions taken by other grown ups without giving a second thought !!
The MB will not support Hazem Abu Ismail  because his ultra-conservative views will damage the image they made for the brotherhood after the revolution as moderate Islamists. The MB has positioned itself in the West now as moderate Islamist compared to the Salafists , the ultra-conservatives.
Now concerning the Salafist Nour party , well it has followed the same steps of MB and is going to wait and revise the candidate and their programs before declaring its position. Needless to say if it were up to their 90% or even 95% of their members they will go for Hazem Abu Ismail.
Hazem Abu Ismail , the famous Salafist Islamist presidential candidate has allegedly secured 3 power of attorney from Al Nour party’s MPs. According to some insiders the party gave its orders to its followers not to give any power of attorney in this stage.
Abu Ismail’s main voters already are the Salafists and the Salafist Front and Dao’a Al Salayfia which are Egypt’s biggest Salafist groups have already announced their support to the famous Ultra-conservative Sheikh.
There are news that Abu Ismail is close from scoring 30,000 power of attorney , I am not surprised as the man got huge popularity thanks to his sheikh status and his religious TV show on the one most popular religious Salafist channels in Egypt. Abu Ismail is known in some remote parts in Egypt more than Abu El Fatouh.
Now this is the first quick look on our political map in Egypt.

#Virginity Checks : The verdict was already known !!

$

And so the military court has acquitted that conscript doctor accused of performing virginity checks for girls arrested on March 9th ,2011 !!
It is not a surprise at all for me thanks to the testimonies of the eye witnesses including the eye witnesses Samira’s lawyer brought to support her claim. These eye witnesses’ testimonies contradicted with Samira’s testimony including the testimony of Rasha Abdel Rahman who was with Samira on that day at military prison !!!
Of course one must wonder about the confessions of the SCAF commanders to the media whether the CNN in order not to be accused raping the detainees or the activists like Mona Seif about having those awful tests in the activists meeting with SCAF commanders . Still you must remember that the eye witnesses did not deny having these tests but they said different versions on how it was conducted.
The verdict was somehow expected.
Samira Ibrahim herself did not have faith in the military judiciary to her tweets and her statements and described the whole trial as a play all the time.Nevertheless the feeling that you lost a case is difficult even if you have a little faith. She cried and broke down in the court today.
Samira after the verdict crying
Unfortunately the case of Samira Ibrahim has been exposed to the media to the level now people are wondering if she is honest or not. The girls who were with Samira that bloody day should speak up and support her story. I know there was another girl other than Samira and Rasha , a hairdresser who was the first to speak about the matter. That lady needs to speak about the case.
Today the military court let Egyptian TV channels film inside the court and they even let that doctor Ahmed Adel have his own press conference. From his side Adel is defending himself and saying that he is a doctor who respects his profession and that he was a “sissy” to engage in sexual assault.
I do not know if Adel will sue Samira for defame or not because she should be left alone now.
The final verdict is between the hands of God and it will come in both this life or after lift.

Updated :

Activists Samira Ibrahim, Asmaa Mahfouz , Nawara Negm and Ghada Kamel along with couple of young men “about 15” and 2 other girls are protesting at the ministry of defense.

Ghada Kamal at C28 this morning
Samir and Ghada at MOD from short while ago
Now Dr. Ahmed has spoken to the media and it seems that both he and Samira Ibrahim will be the heroes of our night talk shows tonight. Adel claims that he only asked the girls detained in the case “he criticized their behavior”.
Adel speaking to the media "AP"
He also added that Samira did not recognize in the beginning of the case despite he said his name.
Adel Morsi, the head of military judiciary is defending the military court and is saying that they were not pressed from anybody and that the court reached to this verdict after the contradictions of the eye witnesses’ statements.
Again the whole case when it is reviewed was a mess and Samira Ibrahim needed a real good lawyer from those famous lawyers.
It is worth to mention that the doctors’ syndication has supported Adel in the case.

The second day of the presidential elections registration seems to be even more interesting than the first day
Today citizen Adel Abdeen from Tanta came and registered himself as the presidential candidate while holding the Egyptian Royal Green flag and claiming that he is the son of King Farouk I , the king of Egypt and Sudan !!!!
Abdeen "Al Wafd newspaper"
We got also citizen El Sayid Ahmed who came on his motorbike to register as a presidential candidate.
On the motorbike "AP"
Infamous lawyer who fights everybody Mortada Mansour registered himself today. It is worth to mention that Mortada lost the parliamentary elections in his hometown in Mansoura fro two months ago !! Mansour says that Egypt needs a Man and he is that Man.

Mortada Mansour "AP"
Bothiana Kamel registered herself as well in the elections today wearing a traditional blue Galabiya.
Abdel Moneim Abu El-Fatouh has sent someone on behalf to submit his application.
3 Egyptian Christians presented their applications today as well : Adel Daniel , Mamdouh Ramzy and Malid Kars.
Now regarding the Power of attorneys race :
  • Hazem Abu El Ismail has reportedly scored a lot of Powers of attorney in the second day in row in Alexandria , which is not a surprised considering that Alex is the capital of Salafism in Egypt. Abu Ismail is followed in the race by Abu El-Fatouh in Alex.
  • Hamdeen Sabhi and Khaled Sabhi joined the race as well in Alex but not as advanced Abu El Ismail and Abu El Fatouh.
  • Amazingly Amr Moussa comes very late in the Power of attorney race in Alexandria for the second day.
  • Shafik Campaign reports that he managed to score about 1520 powers of attorney in Monufia , Ismailia, Cairo and Qalubiya.
  • Shafik campaign claims that he is advanced in Mania and is followed there by Hamdeen Sabhi then Amr Moussa.
  • Now Abu El-Fatouh campaign is reporting violations in some notary offices in Alexandria and North Sinai involving bribes “LE 250” for the sake of certain candidates by some of the employees.
  • Abu El-Fatouh campaign is reporting also that in certain notary of offices in Mania, Ismailia , Qalubiya the employees do not accept any power of attorneys except for certain candidates.
  • Abu El-Fatouh campaign has reported that in Nasr City workers from the factory zone ‘10th quarter’ are given between LE 30 to LE 100 to go and submit PAs for certain candidates.

Syrian Revolution : Another massacre in Karm EL Zaitoun “+18 Extreme Graphic”

Today we woke up on a terrible massacre that took place in Karm El Zaitoun quarter in Homs , Syria yesterday. I am sorry Syria we are busy in the presidential elections circus. Last night over 100 Syrian have been killed in Homs , Idlib , Aleppo , Damascus and its suburbs
Yesterday there were two massacres in Homs , the biggest one was in Karm El Zaitoun and the second one is in the Jobar area.
Homs : Jobar massacre (+18 Graphic)
The Massacre of Karm El Zaitoun is like a nightmare scene. According to the activists not less than 45 women and child have been slaughtered by reportedly thugs of El Assad regime. The activists are reporting terrible stories on how the women are being raped before they killed.
Karm El Zaitoun and Bab El Sab Massacre
Of course I do not know if they were slaughtered or killed in the shelling yet the footage emerging are more than terrible. “+18 Extremely graphic”
Karm El Zaiton : Children killed “+18 Graphic”
Here is part of Karm El Zaitoun reportedly shelled yesterday.
Homs : Karm EL Zaiton shelled on March 11th
On the other hand the US and NATO know the consequences of interfering militarily in Syria , which is not Libya but all measures , which has not been exhausted like Iraq yet.
The Syrians can end this alone , it will need a lot of faith and sacrifices which they are already presenting already.
Here is a set of terrible extreme photos taken hours after the massacre showing the victims and their families. “It is extremely graphic”
The official Syrian TV claims that these families , these civilians were abducted from their homes and killed by those unknown armed gangs then those gangs filmed them like that in order to accuse Syrian regime in the world of killing its own people.
Unfortunately there is an extremely anger among Syrians especially the Sunni Syria as this attack happened in Sunni areas in Homs by thugs allegedly coming from Alawi areas , now the Sunnis are attacking the Alawis in Syria and there is even some sort of Facebook campaign.

And The MB has just created their first diplomatic crisis !!

$

0
It started first with Sheikh Youssef Qaradawi , he slammed the Emirati government and the rulers of UAE last week for their decision to deport a group of Syrians and their families for protesting in front of their embassy in Abu Dhabi without a permission in his weekly TV show on Qatari Al Jazeera.
Qaradawi slammed UAE government
The old influential Sheikh told the rulers of UAR to fear God and the day of judgment. It was a very simple criticism ; “fear God” was once said to Omar Ibn El-Khatab himself but despite many believed that next day all people would forget what Qaradawi said , a high profile Emirati official did not forget and was offended from what the Sheikh said.
Dhahi Khalfan , Dubai’s police chief fired back at the Sheikh and said that if he insulted UAR and its rulers , he will not only arrest if he steps a foot in UAE but he will ask the Interpol to arrest him.
The statements were shocking to the Sheikh’s fans as well Islamic clerics , despite I think Sheikh Qaradawi used to worse attacks by Mubarak regime yet somehow people did not expect this attack coming from an official , from a Gulf state where Qaradawi is popular more than in Egypt.
Not only the Sheikh’s fans have fired back at Khalfan but also his brothers in the Muslim brotherhood stood for him as well. “Qaradawi is a famous old member of the group”
In a comment to some Emirati newspaper Mahmoud Ghozlan , the official spokesperson of MB warned UAE from the Islamic world’s anger if they dared and arrested Sheikh Qaradawi.
And the Emiratis took his quote as a threat seriously and a crisis was born between Egypt and UAE !!!!! We are not speaking about regular Emiratis officials but we are speaking about Emirati officials including the minister of foreign affairs himself Sheikh Abdullah Ibn Zayid who attacked the Muslim brotherhood in his official twitter account and slammed them.
I hope that the Egyptian government to explain its position from the statements of the MB spokesperson
In another tweet the Emirati FM says that Egypt does not deserve the MB’s way of thinking.
The GCC has also slammed MB and Gholzan. “What affects UAE , affects GCC” the secretary general of GCC Abdel Latif El Zayani said.
Of course now Khalfan has nothing to do on twitter except to slam the Muslim brotherhood. Right after Ghozlan’s statements he accused the Muslim brotherhood of  being the agents of the United States “He spoke about US NGOs trial as a proof on what he is saying” , of being the origin of Al Qaeda as well of being pedophiles !!!!! He even accused them of standing behind the students protests in King Khaled University in Saudi Arabia !!
Khalfan has been slamming the MB for hours up till now in Arabic and it seems that he is supported by many Emiratis. The man is on fire without doubt !!!
Emirati state minister of foreign affairs spoke with our FM Mohamed Amr during the last LAS meeting about the statements of Ghozlan. Speaking seriously the tensions between the MB and UAE has reached a new level despite Cairo is trying to keep away from the media in Egypt.
on Monday the MB issued an official statement clarifying the statements of Ghozlan insisting that they did not mean any offense to UAE despite they slam Khalfan and his attack on Qaradawi. Ghozlan claimed in the statement that his comments were twisted.
Still the UAE is angry from the MB and indirectly Egypt.
Now historical fact Sheikh Zayid , the founder of UAE did not like the Muslim brotherhood and rejected them. I do not know if it had to do with his strong relations with Nasser and later Sadat then Mubarak or the fact the old Egyptian generals from police as well army used to serve in UAE as security expert whether in army or police after retirement. These officers for sure got their own views about the MB that they transferred to the Emiratis.
Another interesting recent fact Khalfan does not believe in the Arab spring revolution and thinks that it is a foreign conspiracy made by the Americans. Khalfan gained fame in Egyptian media during the Suzanne Tamim murder crime and later gained international fame following the murder of Hamas’ leading member El Madbouh in a Mossad operation in Dubai.
Of course Ghozlan got very interesting quotes in the past few months that made many people angry outside and inside the MB like this last jam from couple of days ago.
Whoever going to elect Abdel Moneim Abu El Fatouh as a president from Muslim brotherhood youth will be fired !!
I think the MBs can forget the ministry of foreign affairs now as they are not ready not for it, already lots of tiny birds in Cairo tell me that the fight between MB and SCAF over the government is centered over three main ministries “Defense , interior and foreign affairs
To be honest that despite my belief in democracy , I think the MB with their depressing current political performance should forget about these ministries.
I will not lie and I say that I am not happy to see them stumbled in this diplomatic crisis with the Emiratis after what they had done during the the US NGOs trials.

#Egyworkers : And the Newspapers workers demand better training incentives

Today I met a protest “ not a big one” at the famous “Sahafa street” in front of the state owned major newspapers Al Ahram and Akhbar Al Youm. The protest included workers from state owned newspapers , privately owned newspapers whether independent or partisans.
Newspapers workers protest
The protesters were from newspapers workers and administrative employees who were demanding an increase for their technological training incentive about 25% just like the journalists who got an increase in their incentive earlier this year.
The protesters held banners like “The newspaper needs the journalist and the worker” and chanted for Kamel Ganzoury to meeting their demands.
Newspapers workers protest
They are also demand a governmental support to their pensions fund. The government is already paying this technological training incentive for all newspapers.
The protesters headed in march to the Shura council to present a petition with their demands to the Speaker of the Shura council Ahmed Fahmy “Who is also the chairman of the Supreme council of journalism”.
The March to Shura council
Ahmed Fahmy has already asked PM Ganzoury to increase the incentives and to support the pension fund in official request issued from the Supreme council for journalism in Egypt.

#Syrian Revolution : The Mujahedeen From Egypt and Saudi Arabia

$

This video is spreading throughout Facebook like fire specially in the Conservative Salafist page and it is receiving a lot of “Likes”

The arrival of the Saudi and Egyptian Mujahedeen to Syria to join the FSA !!

When I saw that video allegedly shot in El Rastan , Homs earlier I freaked out because honestly I feel that we are re-watching Afghanistan two especially with all the sectarian talk and Salafist enthusiasm aside of the American and Gulf support.

This video shot allegedly in Rastan, Homs showing a commander of FSA unit called Gassar addressing the public and claiming that there are allegedly Egyptian and Saudi Mujahedeen who joined the Free Syrian army !! Of course we do not see any Egyptians or Saudis. Side note :  it seems that the area where they shot the video was liberated from El Assad regime completely.
Of course what is more disturbing than the claim of that defected army officer is how the people in that area are swearing to sacrifice him with blood and soul !!!  That culture is still there !!

In past months you would find some silly rumors on twitter and Salafist FB pages that over 1000 Saudi fighter had crossed the borders and are going to liberate Syria.

Already I will not buy for one minute that the Freedom fighters of Libya “who  are fighting each other now” are going to fight and win El Assad army because simply El Assad army is not Qaddafi militias nor Syria is Libya if we are going to speak about fundamental military facts even I who did no study in military academies !!!

These rumors are dangerous because El Assad regime will use them in order to prove that there are foreign parties involved in the revolution. “Ask us about foreign agents !!??”

On the other hand 12 Egyptians were arrested in Syria and the Egyptian charge d’ affairs is currently working to deport them safely to Cairo. These Egyptians were reportedly entered Syria illegally to find work according to the Egyptian ministry of foreign affairs report.

Endless to say after the horrible massacre of Karm El Zaitoun the sectarian hate between the Sunni and Alawis hit the ceiling and El Assad got what he wants. There can be sectarian cleansing literally in Syria if the wise and true patriot in this country take the lead and save this multi-sects nation. “I still have faith but from my talks with Syrians I fear that there will be a sectarian cleansing in this nation targeting Alawis than Shiites sooner or later because of the massacres in the Sunni populated areas”

Today Mouard Mowafi has headed to Saudi Arabia in an urgent visit to discuss Syria’s updates meanwhile US general Ronald Burgess , the Defense Intelligence Agency director arrived on Tuesday to Cairo and had talks with our generals. Some say that it has to do with Egyptian American relations but I will dare and say that it has to do with Egyptian American Syrian relations.

It is like Libya Déjà vu but in much more complicated context.

The United states will not intervene along with the NATO and save the Syrians now as some believe because this is the year of the elections and again there is oil in Libya and Israel said it clearly that it fear an Islamist state in Syria and it wants someone peaceful tempted like El Assad and his regime.

#RIP Amina , you are not the first nor the last

Amina Lehassan , a 16 years Moroccan girl raped by some asshole bastard in Tangier when she was 15 years old after she was abducted from the street. She feared to tell her mom for two months. When her mom told the Royal Gendarmerie “The police” and they told her that the case was referred to the Royal Prosecutor  in Tangier.
The Royal prosecutor ruled out that Amina should marry her rapist to hide this scandal !! Ironically the rapist and the family refused first but they agreed in the end in return of not paying a dowry. There was no wedding or anything for the little girl who just celebrated her 16th birthday.
For about 5 months Amina lived in hell at her husband/rapist house , she suffered from ill treatment and constant beating. Amina tried to leave her rapist hubby’s house but her mom used to tell her that she should not leave her hubby’s house !! Amina went to the police beaten asking for help but they told her to ask for the help of the Royal Prosecutor “Who forced her in to that marriage in the first place” and to bring a medical report for her condition. The police did not help thus Amina began to think about plan to grab the people’s attention.
While she was out with her rapist hubby in the market, she took poisonous pills used to kill mice. She fainted at the market , her hubby left her as expected to die. The police came and ordered an ambulance but it was too late. Amina died.
Her parents say that she did not intend to kill herself but she wanted help according to the police that talked to the poor dying girl.
This is in nutshell the story behind that famous #RIPAmina hashtag suddenly appeared among all the political hashtags n the Arab region.
The suicide of Amina is causing a lot of controversy in Morocco , many Moroccan from what I see online whether on twitter of FB or Moroccan websites are extremely for her death and her forced marriage.
The minister of family and solidarity Basima Hakaawy commented on the incident saying that it is time to deal with the matter attributing the matter to family’s honor and how families accept that sort of dirty settlement. Well madam minister the problem is not only in the families but as in the royal prosecutor of Tangier !!
Amina Lehassan May Allah bless her soul is not the first nor the last Arab girl to be forced to marry her rapist in the Arab world.
Marrying the rapist for fear the scandal was and has been the easiest dirty solution in front of Arab families as well the lazy police force that does not want to do its job or even worse a police force that thinks it is the mistake of the girl !!!!
Marrying the rapist is actually a punishment to the girl and to the woman and yet in our Arab world some families think that it is better than scandal !! Well I hope the family of Amina and that judge are happy now.
I wonder how many girl suffered because of that judge , in fact I wonder about his judgment and his past rules not only involving raped girls but all humans in general !!!
RIP Amina , you will not be the first nor the last.
Updated :
So I have just known that there is a Turkish TV series called "Fatimah" where Fatimah, the heroine is raped by 4 young men and she is forced to marry one of them !! The girls in Egypt and the Arab world like the guy who raped and married Fatimah coz he is cute , they even feel sorry for him !!
Of course in the end he will turn out to be innocent from her rape but they do not know this yet !! Oh yes this is spoiler , I am speaking here about the principle itself.

#Syrian Revolution : One Year later

And one year later has passed so quickly in Syria since the start of the amazing protests that evolved in to an uprising that is evolving in to a revolution.
One year and I thank God that I have been there documenting in Cairo what was taking place.
Unfortunately Syria turned to be more complicated than any other country in the region and this is because of the importance of Syria. One year has passed and I have learned by heart the names of towns and cities in Syria , one year has passed and the flame of the revolution moved from the city of Daraa to Hama to Idlib to Reef Dimshaq and to Homs  the great Homs. Over 8,000 have been reportedly killed , over hundreds of thousands were injured and thousands are missing either detained or killed in one year. Thousands of Syrians  fled their homes heading to neighbor countries as refugees whether in Jordan or Lebanon or in Egypt.
In One year a revolution in Syria turned in to a cold game between international and regional powers where the players do not care or give a damn for all those people getting killed or the fact that the country is on a verge of civil war.
I do not know what to say except that I do not shocked anymore from the scenes of blood and disfigured human bodies because of El Assad regime’s brutality. I feel that I am not shocked anymore as a human and I know it is bad.
Anyhow Cairo celebrated the Syrian revolution in its own way , its own elegant way with a special cultural evening at the Cairo Opera house’s summer theater where Egyptian and Syrian artists lined up to celebrate one year of Syrian revolution.
I do not know how to celebrate something when blood is still warm in the street but I know that hope is important in this struggle , if Syrians lose hope , they will lose their battle for free united Syria.
I will leave you with Hope by Malek Jandali of Homs.
Malek Jandali : Hope
Here is another amazing musical piece by Jandali dedicated to martyr Ibrahim Qashoush.”May Allah bless his soul” This small symphonic piece is inspired from Qashoush’s famous anthem “Come on, Bashar Leave”
Freedom Qashoush symphony
It is worth to mention that from several months ago Malek Jandali’s old parents were beaten by El Assad thugs because of their support to the revolution.
ISA next year United Syria will enjoy freedom and democracy where all citizens are equal and do not live in fear.

" Israel’s neighbor is burning” is an Op-ed published in Haartez by Gideon Levy about what Israel can do to help its neighbor Syria and Syrian people. Levy knows very well that Israel can’t intervene directly because any action will unite the Syrian people against it “As if uniting the people of Syria was a bad thing , I stood in front of this phrase a lot t be honest”. This op-ed is very interesting on many levels because it made me think about the Israeli position in the Syrian crisis.

There is no doubt that Israel is worried about the future of its neighbor in the North , the Israelis do not want El Assad and his Pro-Iranian Hezbollah regime but they also do not want a radical Islamist rule or radical nationalist rule to replace El Baath rule especially with the rise of the Islamist powers in the region.

The Israeli military generals want to neutralize if not to weaken the Syrian Arab army , they will welcome something like the new Syrian army indeed with no rockets arsenal or air forces “like what happened in Libya”. You must know according to military experts El Assad has not yet used the full power or capacity with all the brutality we are witnessing .

The Free Syrian army is not yet a threat to Israel especially with weak weaponry and fragmentation but I bet with its current religious ideology shown crystal clear to the world the Israeli military think tanks are wondering if they are going to replace Baath Army with Sunni Islamist army.

Israel is worried despite I know politically the leaders of Israel are somehow welcome this indirect or rather direct confrontation between the Arabs or rather Sunni represented by Saudi Arabia and the Shiite represented by Iran in a battle field called Syria. I know that the IDF commanders are praying day and night that Hezbollah fully engaged in a fight with FSA and hopefully Arab armies so the Arabs and FSA would succeed in what they failed.

It is no longer revolution for the Syrians only but regional game of power.

The question is now does Iran really need Syria to maintain its power as well threat to Israel ? To be honest when I look back to history , I do not think so because if you look back in the 1980s , Hafiz El Assad was not the puppet of Iran like his son on the contrary this close bonding between Iran and Syria happened in the time of his son. During 1980s and 1990s Iran was a threat to Israel yet of course that its existence on the Israeli borders as in Hezbollah was not that powerful.

Despite the support of El Assad regime to Palestinian resistance groups and Hezbollah , the regime itself was not a real danger for Israel when it comes to restore the Golans whether through war or peace.

The Israelis should not be worried that the Syrian refugees will not knock the doors of the Israel nor the Syrian people will want a peace agreement except when they restore the Golan heights. Some Israeli writers claim in their columns that Sunni Syrians want peace with Israel , well the Syrian people regardless of their faith as I know and see want land for peace yet it is not their issue now. Removing El Assad regime from rule in Syria does not mean that Sunni Syrians are going to open their borders with Israel and have normal friendly relations with the Israelis.

I remember clearly the famous slogan the Syrians “Mostly from Sunni” chanted so strong throughout the past year whether inside Syria or outside it: “A lion in Daraa while a mouse in Golan”

Already sectarian rumors in social media among Arabs and Syrians from Sunni say that Israel will welcome El Assad regime and the Alawi sect to the country. It is worth to mention that for decades opponents of Hafiz El Assad stated that he sold Golan heights to the Israelis in direct treason accusation in 1967.

To be honest I read what happened on the 5th, 6th , 7th and 8th of June 1967 and what happened in Golan on the Syrian front was more than mysterious but was more disgusting than what happened in Egypt.

The SNC faced huge troubles and suspicion when some of its members turned to have some relations with Israel and these members had to leave it.

Already I do not know why some Israeli writers insist on using sectarian and singling out the Sunnis in Syria despite Syria is multi-ethnic sectarian nation for God sake that includes Christians, Shiites, Druze , Alawis and Jews. I do not understand also why some Israeli journalists believe that the Sunni Syrians are pro-Israeli or that Syrian revolution is Israeli friendly. Well they do not believe Israel is friend as they believe that the Israel is helping El Assad and the drones accident in Homs , in Baba Amr enforced this belief.

One thing for sure these claims or thoughts are taken by El Assad regime and used in his media whether in Syria or outside it to defame the revolution. El Assads used to the resistance and supporting Palestine against Israel game for decades to justify their dictatorship.

I do not think that this file will be opened any time soon and any Syrian politician smart enough will not go to the negotiations table or even support the decision of a military offensive like in 1973 to restore Golan through war when he is rebuilding a nation or a new republic in Syria logically speaking.

Back to the Israelis , well they have to be worried , it is logical and natural ; any respectable country that cares for national security will be worried for the future of its neighbor country especially if it has a long hostile wars with it. For God sake all us of are worried for the future of Syria , we should be worried for Syria.

And by the way Allah is great.

You can check my second Day Aswan chronicles earlier in Kom Ombo here. This chronicle was written on February 9,2012 in Aswan.
Hours later we headed to the magnificent temple of Edfu in the city of Edfu , the biggest city in Aswan. You go to the temple in carts. The city is calm , clean and quiet as I can tell. The Muslim brotherhood has got a headquarter in the heart of the city's market ,the most active part in it.
DSC02524

The Edfu temple is the second biggest and most preserved temple in Egypt after the Karnack temple in Luxor , again it was built by the Ptolemaic in Egypt "check the crown at the top of its pillars , they are different than each others unlike in Egyptian temples.
Below over 100 photos for the amazing temple , I swear if I had had more time , I would have taken more pictures.
Aswan : The temple of Edfu

It is the second most preserved because it is away from the Nile , anyhow it was not that persevered from the radical early Christians whom again removed the pictures of ancient Egyptian gods. the ceiling of the temple is covered in black coz of two theories : (1) The early radical Christians tried to burn it or (2)The early Christians who lived in it for some time and used vegetable oil candles.
DSC02595
It is not also that preserved from pigeons poop !! The pigeons poops allegedly got dangerous dangerous effects on the temple and its buildings thus we there are these fences to stop the pigeons from using the temple as its nests as much possible.
DSC02585

Still the temple still has it with all its rooms , stairs and even the colors in some areas.
DSC02563
The sanctuary at the temple is there and you can find the pedestal where there was that statue of Horus from thousands of years ago. There is a replica that goes back to early 20th century representing a barque of Horus that would have sat in the sanctuary
DSC02647
The stairs in the temple are amazing with doubt.
DSC02659
Very few tourists mostly from Japan and more Egyptian tourists who are really amazed with their grand ancestors’ temple.

The women employees in the temple are angry from their boss coz she wants them to work an extra hour " instead 1 pm they have to work to 2 pm !!" because they cannot find any means of transportation to the city at that time outside the temple.

The temple is besides the Edfu cemeteries.

I have been to Aswan and Edfu , aside from the ACAB graffiti in the city of Aswan nobody is interested in strikes but interested in restoring tourists.
The rest of the day will be on a board of a Nile cruise till we reach Isna lock channel to leave Aswan and head to Luxor in the North.

Mixed thoughts : Regarding the Al Nour Party and its members

These are mixed unarranged thoughts which I am writing down and sharing in order to clear my mind.

  • The Protesters angrily headed to the MOI after the Port Said Stadium massacre , some of Al Nour party members of the parliament shout in the people’s assembly and accuse the protesters of being thugs and agents paid LE 200 and Tramadol pills !!

Then Al Nour party spokesperson Nader Baker apologized saying that Al Nour party MPs did not mean any offense to the protesters or the revolutionaries.

MP Mostafa Bakry speaks about agents working for the States and the Israel then accuses Dr. ElBaradei of supporting these agents , Al Nour party MPs cheer for him.He defends himself later in front of people’s assembly and speaks about foreign funding , conspiracies and ElBaradei and yet again Al Nour party MPs cheer for his pseudo victory.

Then Al Nour party Spokesperson Nader Baker apologized

MP Anwar El Balkimi does a nose job that costs him his political career and Al Nour Party spokesperson yet apologizes once again to the public announcing that the party decided to fire El Balkimi. “There is recent rumor that they did not”

After weeks of apologizing for the behavior of Al Nour party members in the parliament , Bakr seemed to be the Party’s official apologist and not the official spokesperson !!

  • For weeks now it seemed that there is no real synchronization between the party and its MPs and of course if you raise this point , you will find someone telling you that it is a new party and the Salafists are still learning politics and are gaining political experience unlike veteran Muslim brotherhood.

Well it is true that Al Nour party and Salafists are not that experienced like the Muslim brotherhood but this is no time for experimentation and  trial and error way of learning unfortunately.

Already it seems to me that from political point of view that Al Nour party did not screen its members well at least those whom it pushed to the parliament , in fact it seems to me that the only common factor between its members is Salafist way of thinking !!!!

This is not enough for political party. The Muslim brotherhood has got a political project to revive the Islamic Caliphate based on their ideas , other than implementing the Islamic Sharia according to their Ultra conservative understanding I do not know what Al Nour party’s real goals are.

  • It is well known that the Salafists were enforced and supported by the State security during Mubarak’s time as Islamist force against the Muslim brotherhood. It is the like the same game Sadat did in 1970s and blew up in his face. Of course up till now I feel that security apparatuses whether SCAF or the MOI are still allies to the Salafist movements and parties in Egypt.

The famous Sheikhs of Salafist movements were totally against any revolution or political activity against Mubarak. “I have not forgotten how they stood against #Jan25 protests.”

After the revolution also I will not forget how the Salafist Sheikhs in Alexandria approached the families of the martyrs and convinced some of them to withdraw their cases against the ministry of interior.

  • I am against the exclusion of the Salafists on the contrary I wish and hope that from that movement a new party or group that represents the Salafists and does not refuse the other.

Egyptian Constitution : 50%-50%

$

And the parliament “Upper and lower houses” members reached out to the best of form of membership for the constituent assembly after receiving suggestions from the parties and members : 50% of the constituent assembly’s members will be from the members of parliament and other 50% will be from outside the members from prominent personalities , representatives from syndications and unions.

I hate lying and liars Freedom and Justice party as you can recall suggested that the constituent assembly would be consisted of 40% of the MPs and 60% from outside the parliament. Most of the liberal parties and non Islamist parties in the parliament supported this suggestion. From two days ago I remember that I read a statement for one of the MB/FJP leaders in the media saying that the constituent assembly may end to be 30% from MPs and 70% from outside !!

Now earlier today FJP shocked us all by choosing that 50%-50% plan !! So what made them change their mind at the last moment !!?  Already this was not the only shock  of the day the biggest shock is that the 40% MPs-60% from outside suggestion only got 20 votes !!

Now there is an assumption that if the Islamists in the parliament “FJP & Al Nour” are going to be represented in the 50% or rather in the 50 seats , they will take at least 31 seats according to their percentage in the parliament. This is just an assumption.

It is worth to mention that that MB is already controlling several syndications and unions so the MB will have more than share in the constituent assembly , we want a constitution that represents all Egyptians and not only the members of the Muslim brotherhood.

How Will the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria Choose its Pope ?? “Coptic Papal Conclave for dummies”

How will the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria choose its next Pope after the death of Pope Shenouda III earlier on Saturday ? How will one of the powerful and oldest Churches in the world choose its leader , the Pope of Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria ??
The System in the Coptic Orthodox Church is different than the Catholic Church and its papal conclave as follows based on the patriarchal elections law issued in 1957:
  • After the death of the Pope , the Holy Synod of the Coptic Orthodox Church will call the oldest bishop in the church within 7 days of the Pope’s death to choose a temporary pope “I do not know the correct term in English” till electing a new pope.
  • A committee will be formed with inone month of the Pope’s death from temporary pope and 14 members of the Holy Synod of the Coptic Orthodox Church in order to prepare a list of candidates for the papal position based on recommendations.
  • The list of candidates should be published in 3 major Egyptian newspapers in Arabic.
  • The process or rather this stage should take 3 months.
  • The numbers of candidates should not be less than 5 and not more than 6.
  • The Holy Synod of the Coptic Orthodox Church members “74 Bishops” besides representative the elders and the nobles of the Coptic societies from at least 60 dioceses in Egypt “12 from each dioceses” will elect the top three candidates from that list of candidates. “We are speaking about less than 1000 voters if I am not mistaken in my calculations.”
  • When the final stage of elections reaches to 3 candidates , the Church will have a big public religious event attended by Christians and their children.
  • A blindfolded child will be picked up randomly from the public that will attend the ceremony.
The blindfolded kid in 1971 choosing the pope
  • That blindfolded child will pick the closed paper with the name of the next Pope. “The Choice of that random kid who will choose the next Pope is regarded as God’s will for the Egyptian Orthodox Christians”
And it was Shenouda III in 1971
The candidates of the Papal position should be :
  • Egyptian Orthodox Christians
  • Older than 40 years.
  • Have been a monk for at least 15 years.
  • Never been married before “to be virgins”
Currently there are top 3 candidates for the position : Bishop Moussa , Bishop Bishoy , Bishop Basanty.
Pro-revolutionary progressive Emad Gad supports the Bishop Moussa , the head of  Youth Bishopric . Gad says that Bishop Moussa was from the first official Church men to take the revolution’s side in the first 18 days when he published an Op-ed in Al Masry Al Youm supporting the revolution.
Bishop Bishoy had a bad history of racist insulting comments against Muslims so I do not think that this will be a good choice in time of the Islamists rise.He is the Christian version of Salafists.
Bishop Basanty has been from the strong church men.
Just like there was a strong rivalry presidential chair during the time of Mubarak and we wonder who really was going to rule Egypt after his departure ,there was also strong rivalry inside the Church especially the health of Shenouda III was deteriorating from bad to worse. I think we need a detailed
Strangely the Egyptian Coptic Church will have a new Pope at the same time Egypt will have a new president as well a new government.

Pope Shenouda III on the papal Chair
Thousands of Egyptian Orthodox Christians have head to the Saint Mark’s Cathedral in Abassiya to have one last look at Pope Shenouda’s body since early morning.
According to Christian Orthodox rituals the late pope after death will be seated on his papal chair or as it is called “The patriarchal throne” wearing his full papal golden robe for three days before the funeral. His body is being prepared for this through some sort of mummification I suppose.
Bishoprics across the country and globe are preparing delegations to head to Cairo starting from today.
Bishop Pachimous , the Bishop of Behaira is appointed as the interim Pope for two months starting from today till the Papal elections. He held a meeting this morning with the rest of the Church men and the Holy Synod in order to prepare the funeral of Pope Shenouda that will be held on Tuesday ISA.
Bishop Pachimous is the second oldest Bishop in the Church after Bishop Mikhail who declined the position due to health reasons.

The traffic near the Cathedral area is a suicide due to the huge number of Christians flocking to the Church.

SCAF has issued its 7th Communiqué for year 2012 expressing its condolences for the death of Pope Shenouda III late last night.
